POLICE REPORTS

DELPHOS On May 27, officers
received a complaint from a resident in the
1300 block of Christina Street. The resident told officers that she saw two males in
her garage. The males ran when the complainant opened the garage door.
On May 27,officers were sent to the
1300 block of Christina Street to meet
with a female who reported that someone,
unknown to her, had opened a credit card
in her name. The card was cancelled and no
charges were made.
On May 27, officers responded to Fifth
and Main streets for a traffic crash. While
investigating the crash, officers discovered
the occupants of one of the vehicles to
be in possession of suspected marijuana
and paraphernalia. As a result, 19-year-old
Kaitlyn Burgoon of Van Wert, was charged
with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Catherine Shafer, 26, of
Van Wert was charged with
possession of marijuana.
Both will appear in Lima
Municipal Court to face the
charges.
On May 28, officers met
with a male in reference to
a computer scam. The scam
involved a person pretending to be a female on a chat
type website. The female
encourages the male victim
to send pictures of themselves in a state of undress
over the Internet. Once
the male complies, the
female then reveals that she is actually a
male and has all of the victims friend list
from other social websites. The scammers
then attempt to extort money from the victim to keep them from sending the explicit
photos to their friends. Officers warn that
you should NEVER send or post nude photos of yourself to anyone on the Internet.
On Sunday, officers were dispatched to
the 24000 block of West Lincoln Highway
in reference to an assault complaint.
Officers arrived and met with all parties
involved. After investigating the incident,
officers found probable cause to arrest
52-year-old Kevin Frasl of Delphos for
assault. Frasl was taken into custody and
transported to the Van Wert County Jail. He
will appear in Van Wert Municipal Court to
face the charge.
On Sunday, officers and Delphos EMS
were sent to the 200 block of South Main
Street for a possible drug overdose. Units
arrived and located a female who was
unresponsive. EMS administered aid to the
female who did regain consciousness. She
was then transported to the hospital for
treatment.
On Sunday, officers met with a male in
the 400 block of South Canal Street. The
male reported that sometime between May
27 and May 29, someone had attempted
to gain entry into his garage. Damage was
done to his door, but entry was not made.
On Sunday, officers on a dog running
at large call met with the owner of the
dog at his residence. While the officers
were at the residence, suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found in
plain sight inside the residence. The resi-

It is 6:42 a.m. and our three youngest just left with the bus for another
day at school. They are counting the
days left of this term. Eight and onehalf days left! I still have a hard time
getting used to the bus coming this
early. All the years our children went
to school the bus was never here until
7:00 a.m. or a little after. Changes are
hard to get used to in our lives!
Talking about changes in life. Our
family will have another change and
Ill probably have the hardest time
with it. On the other hand, Im excited and happy for daughter Susan, 20,
and her special friend, Mose. They
were published in church this past
Sunday to announce their wedding
date. They picked Friday, August 5,
for their special day. Mose and Susan
have been dating for four years and
we have no doubt in our minds that
he will be a good husband to our
daughter. He seems like my own son
and I hope that never changes. It is so
much easier on a couple if both families accept the life partner of their
family member. May God bless their
marriage and grant them many happy,
healthy years together!
With the wedding coming up I
see busy months ahead! We will be
more organized than with Elizabeth
and Timothys wedding. We were in
the process of putting up a pole barn
last year which delayed all the other
work.
Susans dress for the wedding is
mostly finished. The rest of ours are
cut out but still waiting to be sewn.
That is what I plan to do the next few
evening together!
On Thursday we traveled to Berne,
Ind., to brother Amos and Nancys
house for the wedding of their daughter Lovina and Benjamin. They had
a very nice day! On the menu were
fried chicken, mashed potatoes,
gravy, noodles, dressing, mixed vegetables, lettuce salad, sliced cheese,
homemade bread, butter and rhubarb
jam. Also pies (rhubarb, blueberry,
cherry, and pecan), tapioca pudding,
angel food cake, fruit cocktail dessert, and of course nothings were
on all the tables. Sausage was added
in the evening. It was nice to see a lot
of family again.
On a sadder note; Friday, May
20, brought memories of the passing
of my dear father, Ben Coblentz, 16
years ago. How nice it would be to
have my parents at all their grandchildrens weddings. Gods ways are not
our ways so we need to accept what
He sends to us.
I must get busy. I love sewing but
its different if you have a deadline to
get things done. It kind of takes away
the enjoyment, but we will take one
day at a time. Gods blessings!

I feel better to sew now since our
whole garden was planted Saturday.
We are enjoying radishes and green
onions from the early things we planted. Mose and his brother Freeman
assisted us with our work on Saturday.
The pole barn was organized and
cleaned up. When it gets closer to the
wedding we want to wash down the
walls and ceilings on both sides of the
pole barn. We will set tables in both
sides and open the garage door thats
in the middle. Mose and daughters
Susan and Verena planted flowers in
my flower beds. We put out 68 tomato
plants. With everyones help the garden was quickly filled. Now its up
to our good Lord to provide sunshine
and rain to make things grow. Some
years we have a bountiful crop and
others not much but we want to take
what He sends.
On Sunday, May 22, I also turned
another year older. We had communion services at sister Emma and
Jacobs house. After the services were

had a four and five for candles. I
dont know if I could have handled

Lee ripped a hit to center with one down in the third but was
erased on a double-lay ball by Eddins.
The Jays did not touch Blackmore until two down in
the top of the fifth. With Winningham playing for the bunt,
lefty-swinger Mathew Miller slapped a single past him into left
field for the Jays first base-runner but he never went anywhere.
The Jays really helped themselves in the bottom half. With
one out, Wehner singled to right and Cade Chiles hustled out
a bunt single to first; pinch-runner Storm Pierce hustled to
third. Then the Jays turned a most unusual double play: Chiles
took off for second and was gunned down by catcher Buddy
Jackson, then Corey Koverman relayed the orb back to Jackson
at home to nab Pierce for an inning-ending double play.

VAN WERT No time of the baseball season is a good one for giving up
free passes.
Jeffersons pitching staff learned that
lesson well.
Three hurlers ceded eight walks
Wednesday evening at Smiley Parks
Russell Fisher Field and that led Van
Wert to an 11-1 5-inning rout in ACME
summer baseball.
The Wildcats (1-2) also committed
seven wild pitches and a passed ball.
The Cougars got a good pitching
performance from Holden Willingham,
giving up a pair of hits, one base-onballs, one hit batter and one earned run.
He fanned five.
The Wildcats got their only run in the
top of the first. With one down, Jacob
Boop secured the walk. He was forced
at second by Jace Stockwell, who stole
second and scored on Jacob Pulfords
line single to right center.
Van Wert took the lead for good in the
home half against lefty starter Pulford.
With one down, Johnathan Lee walked
and advanced on a wild pitch. When
Caleb Fetzer walked, a wild pitch put
runners at second and third and two
more wild pitches scored both runs.
Lawson Blackmore walked with two
down but was picked off base by Pulford
and first baseman Tyler Schrider threw

Why I
Relay
The Relay for Life is going be a
bit different this year. A move from
Jefferson High School to Stadium
Park has opened a lot of possibilities
for activities.
There are many reasons why I
participate in the Relay for Life. The
first and most important is because I
truly believe that research is the way
to beat cancer. I know there are many
people who could use help with medical bills, gas, food and lodging when
a family is struck by this disease. The
money raised at the Relay each year
would hardly touch those medical
bills for one person. However, you
never know which dollar is going to
find the cure for a cancer and make
those hospital bills and other expenses unnecessary for anyone.
Another reason I relay is because
I have lost family members to this
enemy of mankind. My father was
taken 18 years ago and my aunt soon

Soul of summer
right in Van Wert
I have a slip of paper I carry around in my purse with
me every day.
It is a quote I received on a fortune cookie one day
last year, not really a fortune at all I thought it was
suppose to tell me my future, but sometimes you get
some weird ones.
This fortune, however, is the best one I have ever
received in my two short years of eating Chinese food
(I could really make a long story out of this one, but
Ill save your time).
It says, Music is the soul of language.
Ive never read truer words.
I love music. Music can speak volumes with or without words and it amazes me.
I listen to just about everything - country, rock, classical, pop, blues, bluegrass, jazz and the list goes on.
Every genre plays a role in my life whether Im
cranking up hip hop before I head out on a run or
swinging on the porch swing listening to country, it
all adds something to my daily life. It really adds that
emotion, that soul to my every day life.
In my mind, nothing compares to live music. I love
concerts and throughout the summer, I travel, whether
it is down to Main Street or over to Ohio City or to
Cincinnati, just about every weekend to watch some
live music.
When I was in college at Bowling Green State
University, the downtown businesses had live music
every night. I was blessed during this time with the
opportunity to incorporate my love for music with my
love for writing as the music beat writer for the college
newspaper.
I got paid to listen to music, review concerts and
meet bands.
IN
THE
LOOP
By
Erin Cox
The shows were not always great, but the environment a concert brings is one of the best. I would rarely
know the songs as most performers played original
music, but I could still feel the groove and get a little
dance going as the music would just move through me.
Im one of those people who always has to be bopping my head or tapping my foot to the beat much to
my sisters dismay when she joins me at these events;
sometimes it may be more than just a head bop, I mean
some songs just require a full out head bang or cha-cha.
Van Wert might not have live music every night, but
this community is lucky to have high quality bands and
performers here every year much better than my college town bands I covered back in the day (okay, that
wasnt too long ago).
I am excited for this weekend as it marks the beginning of the Fountain Park Music Series. Its the 15th
year for the series!
The live music downtown on Friday nights throughout the summer has become such a staple in our community I think many of us forget that we are truly
blessed to have that. Ohio City also now has live music
on some Friday nights with their Arts in the Park.
We also have the Niswonger Performing Arts Center
who is announcing its 10th season schedule on June 15
and it promises to delight as well.
Then Van Wert also boasts several festivals throughout the summer that brings performers as well like the
Ribfest and the Wetzel Motorcycle Clubs Battle of the
Bands and the main party.
For a music lover who is in search of my soul of
the summer, Van Wert is the place to be and I hope to
see many of you out at the various concerts this summer. I promise to keep my head banging to a minimum.

Letter to
the Editor
DEAR EDITOR:
I saw the numerous flags
around Delphos placed by
the volunteers and decided
to place my desk flag in my
front yard Sunday to do my
part in remembering the veterans.
I went out on Memorial
Day to water my tomatoes and
found that some jokesters
stole my small flag overnight.
The joke was not funny.
Sincerely yours,
Michael Wrasman
