1. Short description of the company
The company is called Fairy Box. The company produces and transports the
music boxes. It is situated in Chicago, USA. Its quite a small company, there
are about 100 people employed there.
Chicago first established itself as a major transportation hub in the first half of
the 20th century when it was the undisputed railroad centre of the United States.
Although the railroads have lost ground to other forms of transportation in the
intervening years, they remain an important component of the overall intermodal
equation.

A music box or musical box is an automatic musical instrument that produces
sounds by the use of a set of pins placed on a revolving cylinder or disc so as to
pluck the tuned teeth of a steel comb. They were developed from musical snuff

boxes of the 18th century and called carillons musique. Some of the more
complex boxes also have a tiny drum and/or small bells, in addition to the metal
comb.
Music boxes produce a tone that sounds like no other instrument. That is why
its so unique.
Wooden Musical Box Elements
A wooden music box contains the ratchet lever or the windup key which
is used to put the spring motor under tension, that is to wind it up.
There is a comb which is a flat piece of metal with dozens or even
hundreds of tuned teeth of different lengths.
There is a bedpan which is the relatively heavy metal foundation on
which all the other pieces are fastened, usually by screws.
Spring motor that can give anywhere from a few minutes to an hour or
more of playing time.
The cylinder and the disc which are basically the programming object.

There is no big competition in this industry, if we are speaking about the
company thats specialized only in production and distribution of music boxes.
In most cases, music boxes are only sold under the name of different companies,
these companies just order the products from other ones.
Another source of producing MB is handmade works.
The most powerful competitor is Music Box Attic, that is also situated in USA,
North Hollywood. It has a huge experience in providing a company and a wide
range of products.
Other types of MB on the market:
A singing bird box (bote oiseau chanteur in French) is a box, usually
rectangular-shaped, which contains within a miniatureautomaton singing
bird concealed below an oval lid and activated by means of an operating
lever. Its origins are found in the city of Geneva and its invention in
1784/85 is attributed to Pierre Jaquet-Droz.
A musical clock is a clock that marks the hours of the day with a musical
tune played from a spiked cylinder either on bells, organ pipes, bellows,
combs and even dulcimerstrings. The earliest known domestic one is

by Nicholas Vallin, made in 1598, and it currently resides in the British

Museum in London.

Promote todays popular musicians songs by producing MB in a limited
edition ( fans=buyers);
Present products on exhibitions and another social events;
Offering the individual order ( the music box with the exact song and
exact decoration);
Producing small MB on the national holidays (cheaper ones like
souvenirs);

will be packed your product and why?
The products should be stored in a dry warehouse, with a temperature not so hot
to spoil a product ( till 25). The music boxes will be packaged in carton boxes,
20 music boxes in each package. The products will be packed in boxes, because
for transporting its more convenient to put them on the container. If your wood
furniture is placed on the floor of a storage unit, you it could be damaged if the
unit foods. By setting the on top of planks or blocks, we will keep it out of
harms way.

We will use the intermodal transportation ( mainly railroad, also

searail and searoad) because of the benefits of the companys
location ( see paragraph 1).

Straight to the customer depending on the order and the
documents verifying transportation.

6. New technological solution You will use and why?

We will use a technology of combining of two metal cylinders. It will help us to
create more difficult melody polyphony ( as music of Bach has). There will be
the high and low notes separated, so that you can make chords.
