Hillary Clintons Platform

Summary of Clintons policy speech

Hillary Clinton gave a speech on June 2 informing politicians and the public on what she
would focus on as president. Her speech expressed her liberal views of domestic policy and her
belief that the United States should have a strong foreign policy.
Clinton started out her policy speech by focusing on what domestic policies she would
address and how she would address them. For social issues she wants to address focussing on
gender inequality, marriage inequality, climate change, and police brutality. Clinton plans to
address the issue of gender inequality by creating equal wages between men and women,
expanding maternity leave, and creating more affordable childcare options. On the topic of
marriage inequality Clinton says, We must recognize the rights of all citizens, not just those who
share a certain set of beliefs and values. Every American has the right to marry and love
whomever they choose, and I will continue to fight for these rights. To address the topic of
climate change, Clinton proposes progressive policies that will regulate the amount of hazardous
waste and gas emissions that businesses produce and increase carbon and other harmful chemical
taxes. The US government needs to be the one to regulate the effects of pollution because we
have the ability to oversee and facilitate cleanup and restoration efforts especially in instances
involving multiple states, says Clinton. She addressed the topic of police brutality and proposes
that all police departments employ body cameras to help put an end to mass incarceration. She
says this should start by making sure that federal funds for state and local law enforcement are
used to bolster the best training and practices, rather than to buy weapons of war.
Clinton also focused on economical issues such as strengthening the middle class,
addressing the issue of student debts, and getting rid of big money in politics. We need to

strengthen the middle class to provide a base to further grow and stabilize the economy,
says Clinton. The former first lady proposes to do this by closing corporate tax loopholes
and increasing taxes on the top one percent while cutting taxes for the middle and lower
classes, which in turn would raise the Gross Domestic Product and increase U.S. revenue.
Clinton also plans to increase the minimum wage. I am committed to creating a livable
wage for Americans, but we must do so gradually as to not upset the economy and keep it
stable, says Clinton. On the issue of student debts, Clinton plans to advocate for policies
that would allow students to refinance their loans at a lower interest rate. Clinton is also
opposed to big money in politics and proposes to eliminate them. She plans to do this by
advocating for a constitutional amendment and by appointing Supreme Court justices who
will protect the right to vote and will not protect the right of billionaires to buy elections.
In our current political system, due to the increasing influence of money in campaigns,
candidates must raise large sums of money to further the reach of their campaign. If
elected, I will advocate to remove the corrupting influence of soft money in politics, says
Clinton on big money.
For the second part of her speech Clinton focused on a strong foreign policy and
what that would entail. Clinton says, The U.S. must continue to help our allies by more
effectively and efficiently discussing compromises in our own legislature so that we can
then truly present a united front and negotiate with these countries. She proposes to
address the Israel and Palestine issue by treating the two countries equally and objectively
while working towards peace between and by working to create a two-state solution based
on the 1967 borders with equitable land swaps. Clinton also promises to continue
negotiating with Iran, is committed to denuclearizing North Korea peacefully, supports the

U.S.s stand against Russia in Ukraine, working towards more progressive trade deals,
loosening of the embargo on Cuba and the restoration of diplomatic relations, and is
willing to extract troops from Afghanistan while urging them to step up their own security
commitment.
Clintons policy speech emphasizes the importance of human rights, economic
reform, and a strong foreign policy and also includes her plan as president and how she
would go about them.
