Anecdotal Report
Mr. Gerardo Nicolas, RM, RN, MAN
August 4-6, 11-13, 18-20, 25-27, 2014
Valenzuela Medical Centre, MS Ward

It is really true that as a Nurse, you can see the very thin line between life and death
and I definitely experienced it being a Ward Nurse in Valenzuela Medical Centre. I
learned a lot of things in MS Ward, and almost all the skill we acquired while we are in
the Skill Lab is being used in this area. Suctioning, Ambo Bagging, IV Insertion, Holistic
Patient Care, Establishing Rapport, Medication, Charting, and we even do the CPR in
one of our patient having cardiac arrest. What makes me sad is that when times that
some of our patient dying and even we are doing our best to revive but still our patient
past away. I learned also in MS Ward that taking Vital Signs is very important and not
must be taken for granted thats why it is VITAL, in terms of medication and monitoring
complication.
VMC is a good training ground to us because not only the facility is good but also all of
the staffs are good starting from the Security Guard, Maintenance, Staff Nurses, and

even Doctors. They are helping the students to apply what they are learning in school.
One thing that I dont like in VMC is that they are keep on drilling walls and renovating
then our patient cant rest in their beds because of the loud noises and lots of
disturbances. And it is nice to hear that VMC Staffs are doing their best in terms of ISO
accreditation. In terms of VMC MS Ward, I think some rooms needs some a minimal
renovation in terms of lighting and ventilation because it can affect our patients
recovery.
We cannot do our job well without our Most Energetic C.I. for this semester, Mr. Gerardo
Nicolas, RM, RN, MAN, he incorporated lot of things with book basis and together with
his experienced as a Nurse. Im very grateful being student of Our Lady of Fatima
University because they definitely have the proper screening in terms of hiring their
Professors. Mr. Nicolas have done his best as a C.I. and he not just only a C.I. to as but
also a friend to us, you can see to him as a man embodied with knowledge and integrity.
He even introduced new things and topics to us like the Siriraj Scoring and he let us
master things that we need master apply it in future when we are already a Registered
Nurses Locally and even Globally.

Anecdotal Report
Ms. Lorna Ruanto

Valenzuela Medical Centre, Operating Room

It is nice having our duty in Operation Room at Valenzuela Medical Centre because in
this area, I and my group mates learn a lot in terms of Instrumentation, how it is being
indorse to the surgeon. And also, we apply what we have learn in OR Nursing with our
Lecturer, Mr. Francis Vasquez, in terms of Anatomy and Physiology, Draping, different
Kinds of Surgical Incision which I think is very important as an OR Nurse. And also
having our duty in OR at Valenzuela Medical Centre, being a Scrub and Circulating
Nurse, we see that there are lots of Duties and Responsibilities that we need to comply
and it is A MUST.
I 1 month duty in OR Nurse, we encountered different kind of Cases like, CS,
Herniorrhaphy, Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy and many more. It is nice that being a
OR Nurse, we contribute a lot in terms of healing and the decrease of chance that our
patients deterioration.
One thing I would like to advice to Mam Ruanto is that she must be Student/Patient
Centered C.I. not Self-Centered. Because I learned from one of the best Professor of
Our Lady of Fatima University, College of Nursing and I quote Sometimes, Teachers
learned from their students. Anonymous. And she must avoid on keep on shouting to

her student because as a student, we are being loss of confidence and being downed.
That why we are STUDYING, it is a matter of PROCESS!
Summary

All in all, Im very happy for the outcome of my Clinical Rotation because of that I
learned a lot of things and encountered different kinds of personality. Im looking forward
for the next semesters Clinical Rotation. It is really a worth of enrolling in Our Lady of
Fatima, College of Nursing because of the quality education that they are providing to
their students and together with that, they preparing their student to be a Competitive
Nurses in the future not only locally and also INTERNATIONALLY.
And also Im thankful behind this successful Clinical Rotation, Our Level Coordinator,
Dr. Potenciana Maroma and our MOST POWERFUL Lecturer Mr. Francis Vasquez, RN,
MAN, without them we will not be equipped with the Right Knowledge, Skills, and
Attitude towards our Clinical Duty.
