Student Statement:
I/we have read and understood the rules on academic dishonest and
plagiarism in the Programme Handbook.
I/we understand that plagiarism is the presentation of the work, idea or
creation of another person as though it is your own. It is a form of cheating and is a
very serious academic offence that may lead to expulsion from the University.
Plagiarised material can be drawn from, and presented in, written, graphic and
visual form, including electronic data, and oral presentations. Plagiarism occurs
when the origin of the material used is not appropriately cited.
I/we understand the rules and am aware of the consequences which may
follow if I breach those rules.
I/we have taken proper care of safeguarding this work and make all
reasonable effort to ensure it could not be copied.
I/we certify that I have not plagiarised the work of others or participated in
unauthorised collaboration when preparing this assignment.
I/we declare that the attached assignment my/our original work and no part
of it has been copied from any other students work or from any other source except
where due acknowledgment is made.

Objectives
1.
To measure the effects of forward bias on current in a junction diode
2.
To determine the Current-voltage characteristic of diode junction

Procedures
Part A: Diode Biasing
1. Identify the anode and cathode ends of an IN4002 diode and construct the circuit
as shown in Figure 1.

Figure 1
2.
3.
4.
5.

Adjust the DC power supply until you get voltage across the diode, VD=0.7V.
Measure and record the diode current, ID in Table 1.
Reverse the diode. Measure and record the ID and VD in Table 1.
Complete the Table 1. [Diode resistance =VD/ID]

Part B: Current-Voltage Characteristics

1. Construct the circuit as shown in Figure 1 again. (forward bias)
2. Adjust the DC power supply until you get the voltage across the diode, VD are as
in the Table 2.
3. Measure and record the diode current, ID in Table 2.
4. Plot the graph of current-voltage characteristic of diode. [ID versus VD]

Comment on the results obtained in Table 1 and Table 2.

Comment on the graph of current-voltage characteristic of diode.
Determine the DC and AC resistance at ID= 5mA.
Determine the DC and AC resistance at ID= 40mA.
Determine the average ac resistance at ID=5mA and ID= 40mA.
What you can conclude from the above experiments?
