The law re quire s that a re le vant fire risk asse ssme nt is made and maintaine d to ide ntify all

07. Can I mix and match components from different manufacturers , or different s ys tems
made by the s ame manufacturer, when ins talling fire s topping?
The simple answe r is no . While it may be te mpting to use e .g. manufacture r As mine ral fibre batt
with manufacture r Bs adhe sive , the co mbinatio n is unlike ly to have be e n te ste d and the re fo re
may no t pe rfo rm in fire as inte nde d.
I have been told to us e components from different manufacturers in a particular
ins tallation. Is there any way I can get further advice as to their compatibility?
In the abse nce o f te st e vide nce , the de fault answe r is again no . While it may be po ssible to ge t an
asse ssme nt fro m a fire co nsultant o r te st/ce rtificatio n bo dy to co ve r such an applicatio n, such an
installatio n may no t be co ve re d by any o f the manufacture rs warrantie s o r afte r sale s se rvice .

The ASFP stro ngly re co mme nds the use o f third party ce rtificate d pro ducts. Such pro ducts will
have a sco pe o f applicatio n which will co ve r the ir use with o the r co mpatible co mpo ne nts which
may include pro ducts fro m o the r manufacture rs.
