Nod to widen Chandigarh-Ludhiana road(as on Jan
31,2016)
Drive on the Chandigarh-Ludhiana road is set to get smoother as the
National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has given nod to the muchawaited project of widening the road, one of the busiest in the state.
Sources said the NHAI had already floated tenders for 4/6 laning of 74-kmlong Kharar-Ludhiana road at a cost of Rs 1,472 crore.
Work on the project, completion of which would take around two-and-a-half
years, is expected to start in April this year.
"The NHAI has invited tenders for the project. We are expecting that the work
would be allotted by mid-April. The road will be widened from Samrala
Chowk, Ludhiana, up to the point where Ludhiana-Kharar road link merges
with Chandigarh-Amritsar highway near Kharar," said a senior official
associated with the project.
However, unlike Zirakpur-Bathinda and Amritsar-Bathinda expressways,
which are being developed with direct funding from the Centre, work on this
project would be awarded to a private entity on the built, operate and
transfer (BOT) basis.
"The work may be awarded on hybrid annuity pattern, according to which the
NHAI would contribute 40 per cent of the project cost", added the officer.
The widening of entire length of the Chandigarh-Ludhiana road would be
executed in two parts. Whereas tenders have been called for widening the
Kharar-Ludhiana link, work for widening around 10-km-long ChandigarhKharar link has already been awarded to a private entity.

Decks cleared for Metro project(As on Jan 20,2016)

The Metro project received a major boost with both Punjab and Haryana
giving their consent for the project.
The development is significant as the Union ministry of urban development
had sent back the revised detailed project report (DPR) of the Chandigarh
Metro Project to the UT administration in November last year. The

administration was directed to take consent of its partners Punjab and

Haryana before submitting the revised project for consideration.
The new clause by the Centre had delayed the formation of the Greater
Chandigarh Transport Corporation (GCTC), which will start the work on the
project.
Confirming the development, UT finance secretary Sarvjit Singh said: We
have got a nod from Punjab and Haryana and will forward it to the Centre for
the formation of the GCTC.

UT administrator Kaptan Singh Solanki said: Metro is not the only solution
for traffic congestion but it is the identity of any growing city. Metro is an
affordable and quick solution for the city residents to commute easily.
He added: Now, there is no hitch as we have got consent from Punjab and
Haryana for the project. Even the city MP Kirron Kher had given her nod for
the project.
The Union ministry of urban development has also asked the UT
administration to change the name of the project, which is known as the
Chandigarh Metro Rail Project. The total length of the project covering
Chandigarh, SAS Nagar and Panchkula is 37.57 km. The major portion of the
two corridors falls in Chandigarh.

Haryana govt to develop two-lane highway

Chandigarh, Jun 22 (PTI) Haryana government has decided to develop a twolane highway along the banks of Western Yamuna Canal connecting Karnal,
Panipat and Sonipat districts as well as Bawana and Rohini in Delhi, to
provide an alternative route to decongest National Highway 44.
This came out in a meeting presided by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to
review pending issues of metro and other railway projects here today.
The proposed 121.302-km-long highway, which would cost about Rs 1,400
crore, would be constructed from Ghogripur near Karnal to Outer Ring Road
near Haidarpur Water Treatment Plant in Delhi region, an official release
stated.
It would be constructed under a scheme of National Capital Region Planning
Board, Khattar said.

Reviewing various projects, the Chief Minister directed Public Works (Building
and Roads) Department officers to construct a "magnificent and glorious"
Swarn Jayanti Dwar at the entry point of Gurgaon from Delhi.
He also directed the officers to construct welcome gates on the inter-state
border at the remaining 27 entry points to the state to commemorate the
golden jubilee of Haryana.
Describing the railway link between Kurukshetra and Haridwar of "vital
significance", Khattar said there is no direct railway link between the two
holy cities and directed the officers to explore the possibilities of starting a
Delhi-Haridwar route via Ambala and take up the issue with Railways.
Khattar also directed them to frame a policy in consultation with National
Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for rescheduling of toll taxes at various
locations so that the rates can be reduced.
The state government has decided to elevate the existing Rohtak-Gohana
railway line in Rohtak city at a cost of about Rs 230 crore. This would be a
first-of-its-kind in the country, said Khattar.
The Chief Minister also reviewed the progress of Sonipat-Jind and RohtakMeham-Hansi railway lines.
He also reviewed the progress of Metro projects in Haryana and gave
necessary directions to the officers concerned.
The meeting was told that Gurgaon metro -- Badarpur to YMCA in Faridabad
and Sikanderpur Station to NH 8, Gurgaon -- have already been made
operational.
The metro link from Sikanderpur station to Sector 56, Gurgaon, Bahadurgarh
metro project and Ballabhgarh metro project are under implementation and
would be completed by the end of 2017.
The state government has requested Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to
carry out a techno-feasibility study of three projects -- metro connectivity
from HUDA City Centre to Old Faridabad, extension of Delhi Metro till Kondli
and metro connectivity between Faridabad and Gurgaon.

Ahead of deadline, Dera Bassi flyover to open this

month(as on May 3,2016)
Heres a project set to buck a sorry trend. In fact, even better! In respite to
commuters on the Chandigarh-Delhi highway, the flyover at Dera Bassi is set

to be complete and operational by the end of this month, much before the
deadline of July. The initial deadline of the project was October, but had been
advanced.
The construction of the 1.14km, 20.5-m-wide flyover was started in October
2014. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had allotted the work
to Gawar Constructions Limited, a Hisar-based private firm. Around 150
skilled and unskilled workers were on round-the-clock work for the flyover
that stands on 33 pillars. There are also 10 dividers under the flyover that
would make way for commuters under the flyover to turn towards Barwala
and the main town of Dera Bassi, among other places. It is expected to
reduce the travel time between Chandigarh and Ambala-Delhi by 30 minutes
as the crossing here witnesses routine traffic jams.
Project director, NHAI, OC Mathur said, The major roadblock in any project is
land acquisition, but that was not an issue here. All necessary clearances
were in place in time. We are not only hopeful of meeting the deadline, but
also of completing it well before that.
The flyover would be opened by May 31, said NK Sharma, chief
parliamentary secretary, Punjab government, and the local MLA. The flyover
was initially meant to be 920 m, but the length was extended by 220 m.
Even the width of the main road in Dera Bassi has been increased to 6 m
now. An estimated 60,000 vehicles travel to, from and through Dera Bassi
every day. No toll would be charged from commuters and the firm will
maintain it for the next four years after completion.

In order to tackle the problem of congestion at the Sector 29/31/Industrial
Area Phase I/ Industrial Area Phase II roundabout, the Union Transport
Ministry has agreed to construct a flyover or an underpass at the spot.
The announcement was made by Union Minister of Road Transport and
Highways Mr. Gadkari at Chandigarh Airport on Sunday. Gadkari,
accompanied by Union Health Minister J P Nadda, went on a two-day tour to
Himachal Pradesh.

Gadkari said his ministry would appoint a consultant to study the problem
and suggest a solution. Based on the report of the consultant, it would be
decided in consultation with officials of the UT Administration whether a
flyover or an underpass would be constructed.
Asserting that the work would be started very soon, he said once the design
was prepared, it would be shown to the administration and the MP.
In its comprehensive mobility plan submitted to the administration in 2009,
RITES had stated that the roundabout witnesses high traffic volume of up to
1 lakh passenger car units. A proposal to have a cloverleaf-type flyover was
made for the spot. However, it did not materialise.
Recently, Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher wrote a letter to the ministry in which
she sought that a solution to the traffic problem be found. She [Kher] has
demanded that there is a huge traffic jam at the spot and after looking into
technical solutions, a flyover or underpass may be constructed. After seeing
its importance, I spoke to my office and we have approved it. In Chandigarh
there are many rules and regulations for undertaking this work. I came to
know that Chandigarh Administration has been taken on board for this
demand, said Gadkari.
On creating a ring road in Chandigarh, the Union Minister said that the
proposal was under consideration. The biggest problem is land acquisition in
the city and we need support of Centre for that. The ring road will bring relief
to Chandigarh citizens, he said.
Gadkari said that a scientific study, which is being done in Delhi to identify
the accident spots, traffic jams and pollution levels, would be done in
Chandigarh as well. She [Kher] has said that traffic is a huge problem and
also accidents are happening here. Our software will look at these accident
and traffic jam spots in the city and a report will be prepared. We will help
them resolve these issues, he added.

Hartek Power completes Chandigarhs first
commercial solar project renewable energy
Hartek Power, an engineering, procurement and construction company, has
executed CHANDIGARH's first commercial solar project at the tech park in
Kishangarh. The 436kWp project at Chandigarh Technology Park is the third
largest solar PV project in the city after Punjab Engineering College, (1,000
kWp) and Government College for Girls (495 kWp). "Having forayed into the

rooftop solar segment only recently, we have installed more than 3MW of
solar PV projects already and are in the process of completing another 10
MW in Punjab," said Hartek Singh, chairman of the Chandigarh based
company. The project also marks the Chandigarh Renewable Energy Science
and Technology Promotion Society's (CREST's) first successful effort in the
private intervention area, setting the pace for much needed capacity
additions in the commercial category. CREST is credited with helping
Chandigarh emerge as the country's No 1 city in state intervention models
for solar power generation by installing 6.53 MW of solar PV projects on the
rooftops of 134 government buildings in the city (as on March 31). The
Chandigarh administration has made rooftop projects mandatory for
residential projects along with commercial industrial and institutional
buildings. Kalaari strengthens investment team with three
.Singh pointed out that since lack of funds is a hurdle in the way of achieving
the city's revised target of 100 MW by 2022, private sector participation
should be encouraged to give a push to solar power generation in the highpotential residential and commercial segments. "With attractive power
purchase prices in place, a lot more can be done to attract private

Smart Chandigarh: Sec 43 to get 90% of special

funds under smart city(as on may 26,2015)
A day after Chandigarh made it to the smart city list, of the six sectors 16,
17, 19, 22, 35 and 43 that are to be taken up as special cases under the
Area-Based Development (ABD) plan, the UT administration plans to spend
90% (Rs 4,900 crore) of the estimated total fund of Rs 5,600 crore on Sector
43 alone. The funds for this plan are to be generated on a self-sustenance
basis. Urban design and retrofit development and transportation of Sectors
17, 35 and 22 has been allocated Rs 350 crore.
Efficient use of vacant land the key
Efficient use of vacant/under-utilised land in Sector 43 to create mixed use
district for innovation and employment generation, which will be developed
over the period of five years is the thrust area. This will govern the
implementation of the project and the investments coming into it.

World Trade Center launched in Chandigarh

The city of Chandigarh witnessed the launch of World Trade Center on 6th
December 2015. WTC Chandigarh is being constructed by the Viridian Group
and is being designed to achieve LEED CS Gold Certification. According to
sources, it is poised to become the most environmentally-sustainable
commercial project of its size and state.
WTC Chandigarh will act as a major catalyst to the economic growth of the
Chandigarh Capital Region (CCR) and is expected to bring CCR onto a global
platform . The presence of a World Trade Center facility will further bolster

9. TDI Mall, Sector 17, Chandigarh

Being developed by TDI (Taneja Developers & Infrastructure), the mall is still
under construction.

Majority of Chandigarh citizens are unaware about its existence.

TDI Mall is located in Sector 17, but not in the main market area.

It is small in size and no major food joint or cinema has announced their
opening at TDI Mall.

8. Shalimar Mall, Panchkula.

Located on the main road in Sector 5, Panchkula.

Shalimar Mall has a nice exterior design.

The mall has failed to attract shops and showrooms in the mall and hence is
still empty.

Shalimar Mall has Inox Cinemas which can be a good place to watch a movie
with an instant plan when you do not get tickets anywhere else in
Chandigarh.

7. Piccadilly Square, Sector 34, Chandigarh.

Piccadilly Square came up by renovating the old Piccadilly Cinema Hall in

Sector 34.

It has its own cinema hall.

Few shops have opened up at the mall but nothing big has come up.

Piccadilly Square has KFC Restaurant on the ground floor which is a hit among
students.

The mall is small in size but still is a good place for students taking coaching
classes in Sector 34 to hang out and watch a movie without going far.

6. Centra Mall, Industrial Area, Phase 1, Chandigarh.

Just like the above mentioned malls of the city, Centra Mall has never been
able to attract large number of crowds.

Centra Mall was the first mall in Chandigarh to have PVR Cinemas.

PVR Cinemas gave Centra Mall a decent footfall but everyone came here just
to watch a movie.

The mall has not been able to attract good brands / shops or showrooms.

5. City Emporium Mall, Industrial Area, Phase 1, Chandigarh.

City Emporium Mall is a recent addition to the list of shopping malls in

Chandigarh.

It has Wave cinemas on the top floor, which gets an okay footfall.

It also has a nice food court on the first floor with some good restaurants.

Recently a disc has also been opened in the mall.

Despite good interiors and large space, no big brands have come up at City
Emporium Mall.

This mall has a Rolls Royce showroom which is the only showroom for the
luxury car company in Chandigarh.

4. Paras Down Town, Zirakpur.

One flaw of this mall is that it is situated in Zirakpur, 10 Kms from

Chandigarh.

Big in size, Paras Down Town was the only place near Chandigarh to have Big
Bazaar.

The mall has Big Cinemas on the top floor which attracts Chandigarh Citizens
too.

Paras Down Town sees a good footfall everyday due to opening of big brands
at the mall.

One flaw in this shopping mall of Chandigarh is that it does not have a food
court. However it has restaurants like Dominos etc.

3. North Country Mall, Mohali (Kharar).

North Country Mall is known as the biggest mall of Punjab.

It has some big brands like Reliance Fresh, Zara, Westside, Pantaloons, Life
Style, Etc.

One flaw about this mall is that it is situated in Kharar (Punjab) which is 10
Kms outside Chandigarh.

North Country Mall has PVR Cinemas which is a favorite among residents of
this area.

The mall also has some good sporting and entertainment activities.

2. DLF City Center, (DT Mall), It Park, Chandigarh.

DT Mall is located in a posh area: IT Park, Chandigarh.

The Mall has DT Cinemas on the top floor which is a favorite among
employees of numerous world class companies in IT Park.

DT Mall has some good shopping brands in the mall and a big food court.

With just 3 floors, the mall receives a good footfall and can be seen crowded
in the evenings.

Elante Mall is the biggest shopping mall of Chandigarh.

It has the top national and international brands.

Elante boosts of a vast food court.

Elante has got a large number of entertainment activities. It has Fun City on

The mall has 8 screen PVR cinemas which often goes house full throughout
the week.

Whenever someone talks about shopping malls in Chandigarh, Elante is one such
name that comes to our mind. Though there are 8 other malls in Chandigarh but
