COURSE OBJECTIVES:
India is a vast country which spreads over 3.28 million Sq. KM area & 28 states. While some states have fossil fuel in abundance
&few are blessed with rivers of high hydro power potential, many of states have no coal deposits & have low hydro power
potentials. Therefore location of a thermal or hydro power station is critically decided. However need of reasonably better
quality of power with good voltage at major load centers located in any part of India and low `System Technical Losses' warrant a
strong transmission network.
In view of developing generation capacity Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) & other research institutes, National Thermal
Power Corporation Ltd. (NTPC), individual State government owned power generation companies and a few major private
companies are trying hard to enhance country's installed generation capacity. Government of India has approved many Ultra
Mega Power Plants (UMPP) and Super Critical Technology based thermal power stations to meet growing power demand.
To handle more than 250,000 MW of generated power and extend it to widely distributed load of domestic, irrigation,
commercial, industries, railways etc., India with the combine efforts of State power Transmission companies, Rural Electrification
Corporation & Power Grid Corporation (I) Ltd. (PGCIL) etc, has developed a very strong network of High Voltage (11kV & 33kV)
and Extra High Voltage (110kV, 132 kV, 220kV, 400kV)network system. The country has already embarked on765kV voltage as
new generation transmission voltage and quite a few 765kV substations & Transmission lines are already commissioned. While
lines & substations up-to 33 kV are managed by Distribution companies, the transmission lines & substations of higher voltage
ratings are managed by State Power Transmission companies & PGCIL.
Though many types of generators & transformers are in use but for larger capacity of Power Synchronous GENERATORS & Power
TRANSFORMERS are most commonly used equipments. These Generators and Transformers are very critical, costly still very
unpredictable equipments of electricity generation & transmission system. With the help of transformers the generated power is
stepped up to Extra High Voltage [EHV]. While in transmission & distribution companies the voltage levels are gradually reduced
at the required utilization voltage ratings. Smallest negligence to understand the Power Synchronous Generators & Power
Transformer screates great catastrophic national emergency in the generation / transmission system and causes huge loss of
production. Therefore they need extra care, study, condition monitoring & proper decision at each step of activities like
requirement, design, manufacturing, stage inspection, final inspection, packing, transport, erection, assembly, alignment, gas &
oil filling, drying out, site testing, thorough review of protection setting, commissioning, synchronizing, operation and
maintenance.
This program will make aware & train the available `Human Resource' to look-after these equipments in improved manner to
run generation & transmission system more efficiently and economically. Mr. Gurbaksh Singh & Mr. S. R. Chavhan our experts
shall cover possibly each & every aspect of the above equipments in detail in 2 days as per the program Schedule.
