Social Economy Developer


The OFIFC is an award winning leader in culture-based management providing innovative
research, policy, training and community development to 28 Friendship Centres and other

Responsibilities:
Working as part of a team in a fast paced environment where the main responsibility is to
build capacity of the member Friendship Centres for greater engagement within the social
economy with a goal of self-sufficiency and assists the OFIFC with its social economy
approach. A job description is attached.
Qualifications:
Awareness of Indigenous culture;
Post-secondary education in relevant field, combined with minimum 1 year experience
in social innovation and social enterprise;
Minimum 1 year experience delivering training;
Experience working in Aboriginal community economic development desirable;
Ability to develop strategic partnerships;
Proven ability to develop and deliver presentations;
Knowledge of the social economy sector, particularly social enterprise;
Strong listening, oral and written communication skills;
Proven ability in Project Management;
Public speaking skills;
Knowledge of Business Administration desirable; and
Criminal Reference Clearance (CPIC) and Vulnerable Sector Clearance are
requirements of the employment offer.

Employed by the OFIFC, responsible to the policies and directions as
Supervision: determined by the Board of Directors and under the direct supervision of
the Executive Director, or designate. Daily supervision is designated to
the Education and Employment Manager.

VISION
Primary Objective:
To build capacity of the member Friendship Centres for greater engagement within the
social economy and with a goal of self sufficiency and assists the OFIFC with its social
economy approach.

REASON
Work Environment:
Works in a safe and suitable office environment faced with simultaneous and tight
deadlines.
Working Hours:
Some evening/weekend hours may be required to attend meetings, special functions
and to meet work deadlines. Travel to Friendship Centres/event venues/other meetings
and across Canada 6 10 times per year for the purposes of workshop delivery,
support and stakeholder engagement.

ACTION
Scope:
To provide support and expertise in increasing overall Social Economy capacity within
Friendship Centres that supports the Self-Sufficiency priority of the OFIFCs long-range
strategic plan.
Key Contacts/Relationships:
Internal
Primarily communicates with the Education and Employment Manager, Research,
Policy and Kitigan staff in a collaborative integrated approach.
External
Acts as a technical resource and supports Friendship Centres through their Social
Economy projects. Communicates with special project partners, participants, contract
workers and Social Economy partners/stakeholders/government and funders for the
purposes of sharing and exchanging information, providing feedback, and collaborating.

Key Responsibilities:
Social Economy Projects, Education and Training (60%):
Reviews and assesses current legislation, regulation and policy approaches
relevant to the development of Social Economy capacity in Friendship Centres,
and identifies gaps and barriers;
Develops training and educational materials and tools for distribution and use
ensuring their availability through electronic means;
Delivers and develops information presentations related to Social Economy;
Monitors progress, assesses incoming information, establishes promising
practices and assists in local capacity-building and training;
Writes annual reports outlining developments and progress on Social Economy
projects;
Aligns work with the OFIFCs Urban Aboriginal Social Economy Framework;
Stakeholder Engagement and Support (35%):
Develops strategic partnerships to support Social Economy activity in Friendship
Centres, all levels of government, the private sector and other agencies as
required;
Provides expert direction, guidance and coordination to specialised support for
Social Economy initiatives;
Develops Requests for Proposals for Friendship Centre Social Economy projects
and advises on selection of projects targeted for support;
Creates Plans of Action for selected projects and assists with complex project
management support in fulfilling the objectives of each project, including
technical support and training as required;
Identifies funding options and opportunities for member Friendship Centres;
Participates in OFIFC organisational social economy approaches as identified;
Participates in research, policy and program design to ensure Friendship
Centres social economy needs are considered;
Other (5%):
Maintains and upgrades professional skills;
Promotes a healthy, safe work environment; and
Performs other duties, related to the position, as assigned by the Executive
Director or designate.
