Student Name: Ryan Moore

Date: 6/12/2016
Portfolio Artifact Description: Graffiti Painting/Fictional Story Use a paint program
to create a monster from the photo given and write a short fictional story about the
monster.
What you learned: Through this project I familiarized myself once again with Microsoft
paint, a program I have not used in years. I used the paint programs tools such as shape
tools, spray paint tools, line tools, drawing tools, and cut/paste tools. This activity also
involved the spontaneous writing of a fictional story, which I forced myself to think up as
I wrote.
National Educational Technology Standards for Students Addressed: Standard 1
Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative
products and processes using technology.
Application of skills learned for the future: My future of teaching high school English
will without a doubt contain this activity. This activity is perfect for the end of the year,
as it will give students the opportunity to make me look like a monster by demonstrating
avid skills in a paint program. The activity also involves creative thinking, as students
will have to create a fictional story. I would like to tailor the activity to serve a more
academic purpose in a classroom; by having groups of students make the monsters, and
then create real life masks from the digital paintings. The students would then have to put
on a short play or performance about the monsters they created. This would get students
thinking about plays as an introduction activity to a Shakespeare unit.
