    conceptofhierarchyinPDMSi.e.WORLD,SITE&ZONE.
    AllPDMSdataisstoredintheformofahierarchy.APDMSDesigndatabasehas:
    atoplevel,World(usuallyrepresentedbythesymbolicname/*)
    twoprincipaladministrativesublevels,SiteandZone.
    HierarchyinPDMS
    IfyoulogintoPDMSSAMPLEprojectwithdesignmodule,thetreeshowninfig.1appearsundertheDesign
    Explorer.
    AtthetopofthetreeisWORLDwhichcontainsnumberofSITES.IneachSITEtherearenumber
    ofZONES.WhilemodelingthedesignershallmodelinthecorrectSITE&thecorrectZONEasperthe
    philosophydecidedatthestartoftheprojectbytheLeadEngineer&PDMSAdministrator.These
    instructionsaregenerallycoveredinthedocumentcalledas3DModelingExecutionProcedureor3D
    ModelingJobNotes.

    ThecompleteplantareaappearinginthePlotPlanortheoveralllayoutcanbeconsideredasWORLDfor
    theProject.Intheexamplethecompletedeckareahighlightedinthickblackbordercanbeconsideredas
    theareaavailableasWORLDinthePDMS.AllthePDMSmodelingshallbelimitedwithinthisarea.

    SITEinPDMS:
    Inaproject,thePlotPlanortheoveralllayoutisdividedintoseveralsubareasbasedonthesheet(A0or
    A1)andthescale(eg.1:100or1:50)usedfordevelopingtheequipmentlayout.
    Intheequipmentlayoutforeachsubareatherearedifferentequipment&componentsofeachdisciplinei.e.
    MechanicalEquipment,Piping,Electrical,Instrumentation,etc.ThesesubareasareusedtocreateSITES
    inPDMS.
    InPDMSthereareindividualSITEScreatedfordifferentdisciplinesforeachsubareas.Referringtothe

    ForAREA1,therearedifferentSITEScreatedinPDMSasPIP_AREA1,EQUIP_AREA1,STRU_AREA
    1,ELEC_AREA1,INSTR_AREA1formodelingofPiping,Equipment,Structural,Electrical&
    Instrumentationrespectively.SimilarSITESwillbecreatedforeachofthesubareas.

    ZONEinPDMS:
    IneachoftheSITEScreatedtherearedifferentcategoriesofcomponentswhicharerequiredtobemodeled
    undereachdiscipline.
    ForeachcategorythereisaZONEcreatedinPDMS.
    eg.Inaprojecttherearedifferentfluidcodesorservices(i.e.CD,CO,FW,OD,etc.),sothepipescanbe
    categorizedasperthefluidcodesorservices.Usingtheabovecategorizationintheexamplethereare
    differentZONEScreatedforeachfluidcodeorserviceasPAREA1/PIPECD,PAREA1/PIPECO,
    PAREA1/PIPEFW,PAREA1/PIPEOD.
    TheabovesplitofWORLD,SITE&ZONEcanbeseenintheFig.3.
    GenerallyinaprojectthecreationofSITES&ZONESistheresponsibilityofPDMSadministrator.
    ThePDMSdesignerwillnothavepermissiontocreateSITE&ZONEintheproject.PDMSdesignerhasthe
    rightsonlytomodeltheequipment&componentintheZONE.
    SowhilemodelingthePDMSdesignerhastocheckthephysicallocationofthecomponentonthePlotplan
    &equipmentlayoutthenselecttheproperZONEinPDMSbeforestartofthemodeling.
    Intheexampleshowninfig.2,tomodelapipewithlinenumberCD4AL0NL1PPinAREA1youshouldbe
    ontheZONEPAREA1/PIPECDtomodelthepipe.
    ThenamesusedtoidentifydatabaselevelsbelowZonedependonthespecificengineeringdisciplinefor
    whichthedataisused.Forpipingdesigndata,theloweradministrativelevels(andtheirPDMS
    abbreviations)are:
