Learning Targets:

Through individual and group performances, kindergarten students will be able to


imitate the teacher and fellow students with 75% accuracy.
Through individual and group performances, kindergarten students will be able to
demonstrate their knowledge of a steady beat with 75% accuracy.
Through individual performances, kindergarten students will be able to create
their own appropriate movements in order to demonstrate their understanding of
a steady beat.

Materials Required for this Class:

No materials, but chairs and other objects must be moved out of the way to
create a large space for students to move and stand together in a circle.

Process: (In detail)

Opening
o Talk to the students about keeping a beat
Have the students sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and the teacher
will pat three ways
Fast, slow, and on the beat
Ask students which way is correct
On the beat
o Have students sing and keep the beat as well
Oliver Twist
o Sing the song Oliver Twist for the students
o Teach the song to them by rote
o Once the song is learned, teach students the game that goes along with
the song
Stand in a circle and have one student think of a way to keep the
beat to the song
Once the student is done, have them pick a friend to keep the
beat
Closure
o Repeat until all the students have had a turn

Assessment:

Teacher Observation
o Observe students throughout class to ensure that everyone is singing,
demonstrating correct singing posture, and breathing, and creating
movements to keep the beat in an appropriate manner.

Adaptations:

Students who have a hearing impairment may sit/stand closer to the teacher in
order to hear well.
