HOLIDAY HOMEWORK

CLASS V: ENGLISH
HEY KIDS! HAVE A HAPPY, HAPPENING BREAK!!

A holiday is supposed to be a break from studies, explanations and completing tasks.

But are holidays supposed to make us irresponsible kids?
NO.So were going to take up certain responsibilities and also enjoy our holidays with our
families
1. READ BOOKS in ENGLISH and HINDI
Visit Teksons, Landmark, Om Book shop, or Gupta Prakashan (in and around South Extn.)
and select books of your level. Read them well. Books are your best friends.
List out the books you have read in your English and Hindi notebooks.
2. IMPROVE YOUR WRITING
Write 1 page of Hindi and 1 page of English every alternate day, and when youre back to school
after the holidays, your handwriting will be the envy of your classmates!
We would love to see your writing practice notebook when you come back.
3. WALK TOGETHER
Go for walks with the family. You will realize you have two of Gods greatest gifts. NATURE
and your FAMILY. Do not forget to thank GOD for these gifts.

4. CULTIVATE MANNERS
Remember the 4 magic words? PLEASE, THANK YOU, SORRY and EXCUSE ME.
Make these a part of your personality.
5. PLAY OUTDOOR GAMES
Computer games are good. They sharpen your intellect, but what about the rest of your body?

You do need some exercise, dont you?

Go cycling, play badminton, cricket, kho-kho, catch, hide n seek anything that will make
you run.
6. CARE AND CONCERN
This is your chance to look after your parents, grandparents, elders and even your younger
brothers and sisters. You can surely be of some help around the house
7. REVISE all work done in class, in all subjects. Practice Math and learn your tables.

Have a great holiday and enjoy yourself to your hearts content.

READ STORYBOOKS AND TRY AND DO SOME OF THESE ACTIVITIES

1. In the News.
Create the front page of a newspaper that tells about events and characters in a book just read. The
newspaper page might include weather reports, an editorial or editorial cartoon, ads, etc. The title
of the newspaper should be something appropriate to the book.
2. Make A Book Report Sandwich.
Draw slices of cucumber, tomato, and cheese; lettuce leaves; a layer of butter, and a couple of
slices of bread. Photocopy or make your drawings on appropriately colored sheets of paper -cucumber on green, tomato on red, cheese on yellow, etc.
The sheets served as the ingredients for your book report sandwiches.

On the top slice of bread, write the title and the author of the book you had just finished reading.
On the lettuce, write a brief summary of the book. Write about the main character on the tomato
slice. On the butter, describe the book's setting. Share the book's climax on the cheese.
On the cucumber slice, describe the plot. On the bottom piece of bread, draw a favorite scene from
the story.
Staple together the sandwich layers.
3. Create your own Comic Strip.
Take a comic strip that you really enjoyed reading. Get a photocopy done. Now erase all the
dialogues in the photocopied strip. Write your own dialogues and make up a story. Be creative and
imaginative.

4. Write Parts of Speech Acrostic Poetry.

This holiday you may visit a park, museum, or may even go abroad or visit different
places in the country. Whatever it is, you know it will be fun, and you'll want to keep some
memories. Here's a creative way to do it..
What You Need: Camera, Pencil or pens, Booklet Paper
What To Do: 1.Whereever you go collect words for what you see, hear and feel.
2. When you get to your destination, do like any typical tourist: take some pictures! Enjoy
everything about your experience!
3. Then, on the way home or later that day, make your "Parts of Speech Travel Guide" for today.
Write the chosen part of speech vertically, in all capital letters, down the left side of the paper, as
shown.
4. Now create an acrostic poem about this word, using only words that are of that part of speech.
This means that for the first line, you will need to think of a noun that starts with the letter n, such
as nest, net, or noodle. Then go on to the next line, and think of a noun that begins with the letter

o, such as octopus, octagon, or ox. Continue in this way until all the vertical letters have been
used.
5. Repeat for other parts of speech. Then, compile all the parts of speech pages into a stapled
booklet with your favorite trip photo on top. You'll have a creative, unique "travel guide" memory
of your holiday experience--a book.
