fixture
Magnetic sensor mounting fixtures can be used for mounting WT100/101 (clamp specific), WT200
and WT210 series sensors as an alternative sensor mounting solution to stud welding or clamping on
pipes and vessels. Each fixture accommodates one sensor and it is fixed onto the pipe using only the
pull forces provided by the magnets.

Important:

The underside of the fixtures facing the pipe will be profiled to match the outer diameter of the
pipe or vessel onto which they are installed. Please ensure that the fixture size matches the pipe
outer diameter.

Only use approved Permasense sensor mounting solutions to mount Permasense sensors.
Permasense products should be installed only by Permasense trained/certified technicians.

Refer to 'Datasheeet - 500 series magnetic sensor fixture'.

Refer to the datasheet for the sensor model being installed.

Fixture identification
This is defined by the first number of the ID field found on the fixture label as well as the size in
inches.

Tooling and consumables

1 X Bostik Idenden 40-297 silicone sealant C20 tube (enough for 120-150 installations).
1 X Cartridge Dispenser - 300ml single cartridge manual applicator (reusable).

Installation procedure
Warning. Set the torque wrench to 4Nm. Do not use standard torque settings nominally quoted
to 8Nm to install sensors using this sensor mounting method.

1.

On painted pipe-work, define where the sensor needs to go. Remove a circular patch of the
coating about 25mm (1) diameter to allow the waveguides to contact the pipe directly. If
unpainted, ensure clean metal surface is in contact with the waveguides.

2.

Ensure that the pipe surface on and around which the fixture is going to be installed is free from
debris.

3.

Remove the fixture from the box. Remove the locking pins and locking washers from the
magnets and replace them with the handles. Insert the pins back and keep the locking washes as
they will be needed at the final stage of installation.

4.

Place the magnetic fixture along the axis of the pipe such that the cleaned patch is in the middle
of the aperture of the fixture. Ensure there is good contact between the surface of the pipe and
the surfaces of the magnets. The faces of the magnets are profiled to match the pipe diameter.
See Figure 2.

5.

Turn the handles of the magnets 180 clockwise to activate the magnets.

6.

Take the handle pins out and remove the handles.

7.

Using the BOSTIK Idenden silicone sealant, seal around the neck of the switch as in Figure 3.
This will stop dust and water ingress.

8.

Place the locking washer on top of the sealant and put the pin back to lock the washer in place
as in Figure 4.

9.

The fixture is now ready for sensor mounting.

Removal procedure
Warning. If the pipe is hot, the magnetic fixture will remain hot for some time after removal. Take
necessary precautions to protect against burns.

1.

Ensure that there is a safe place for the magnetic fixture to be moved to once it is removed
from the pipe or vessel. This can be a heat resistant/metallic container.

2.

If there is a sensor or a sensor with lanyard installed on the fixture, remove them.

3.

The magnetic fixture weighs 8.5kg [18.75 lbs]. Ensure adequate measures have been taken to
support its weight when removed.

4.

Starting with the first magnet, fit the handle on it by removing the pin, lowering the handle onto
the shaft and placing the pin back.

5.

Push down on the handle then rotate counter-clockwise by 180. This will deactivate the
magnet.

6.

If the handle does not rotate freely, excessive heat may have caused the mechanism to seize.
Try again with a harder grip. If the handle still does not rotate then secure the fixture tightly
with a lanyard and leave it in place. The fixture cannot be removed.

7.

When the first magnet has been successfully deactivated, repeat the process for the other
magnets.

8.

The magnetic fixture is now free to be reinstalled. Please allow time for it to cool down if it was
installed on a hot pipe or vessel before attempting to use it again.
