5.OPERATION PRINCIPLE
As shown in Fig. 1, The FT-1000 Series Level Gauge consists of a level detecting float, connecting parts (tape, guide elbow, etc.)
and the indicator. The indicator body comprises the sprocket pulley, tape winding pulley, constant torque spring (Conston Spring),
gear mechanism, pointer and scale plate. When a transmitter is provided for the level gauge, the transmitter is connected to the
sprocket pulley shaft of the indicator body through the coupling mechanism.
The float is kept afloat on the surface of the liquid with a constant draft line, and follows any changes in the liquid level.
The float is connected to a tape winding pulley through the stainless steel tape, which is punched at regular intervals. The constant torque spring is incorporated in the tape winding pulley in order to apply a constant torque in the tape winding direction.
This constant torque is balanced with the weight of the float on the surface of the liquid.
When the float rises and lowers, according to the change in the liquid level, the tape which is interlocked with the float rotates the
sprocket pulley, which in turn is engaged with the punched tape. The rotation corresponds to the upward or downward movement
of the float. Thus, any change in the level of the liquid is converted to the change in the rotation angle of the sprocket pulley shaft.
This rotation angle of sprocket pulley is transferred to transmitter unit. i.e. Microswitch alarm, pneumatic, electric, digital BCD
etc. through coupling unit for remote data transmission.

Float, Guide Wires and Guide Wire Knobs are not provided.
Wire Connecting Piece is provided which is welded on
the Gas Holder Roof.
Install Wire Guide below the Inner 90 Elbow.
Pass the Measuring wire through Wire Guide.
Tape-Wire Joint system is adopted for Floating Roof
Tank version. Refer to 11.6 for the details of Tape-Wire
Joint system.
The Tape-Wire Joint Piece should locate below the Out
side 90 Elbow even when the float shifts to bottom position. And, it is should also locate above the indictor even
when the float rises to the top position.
Other installation procedures are identical to those of
Cone Roof Tank version.

11. MAINTENANCE
11.1 Standard Maintenance Items
The following is standard maintenance items;
Function and repeatability check
1) By using hoisting mechanism, function and repeatability check can be conducted by the following procedure;
2) Record the present indication figure.
3) Insert Hoisting handle into Hoisting handle shaft.
4) Rotate the handle clockwise to hoist the float for several hundreds mm.
5) Rotate the handle counter-clockwise to place the float on liquid surface again.
6) Compare the new indication of liquid level to previous recorded figure.
7) In case the difference is within several mm, it is judged that the instrument is working properly.

3)
a. Connection of Tape
1) Remove two screws of Tape-Wire Joint Piece which locate tape connecting portion and remove the fixture.
2) Cut the tape at approx. 2 mm from the hole edge.
3) Fix the tape onto Tape-Wire Joint piece by using this inner hole first.
4) Insert suitable sharp device into second (outer) hole of
Tape -Wire Joint piece to make a hole on tape.
5) Insert and tighten the screw in second hole.
- 14 -
b. Connection of Wire
1) First, the end of wire is to be arranged in turned shape. Turn the end of Measuring wire by approx. 30 mm and tighten by a
sleeve.
2) Remove the large screw of Tape -Wire Joint piece.
3) Insert the rounded portion of measuring wire into Tape-Wire Joint piece.
4) Observing from the screw hole, insert Spring Pin from the side of Tape -Wire Joint piece to hook the measunng wire.
5) Put and tighten the screw.
2)
Install the float apart from the inlets of liquids and agitator blades to avoid the influences caused by the direct
contact with moving or splashing liquids.
If the situation does not permit, provide with baffle or
protective pipe.
Without these protective measures, the tape or wire might
be broken due to the stirring of the float caused by the
turbulences.
It is highly recommended to hoist the float not to be influenced from above during such occurrence.
For wet gases, the condensates may accumulate inside
the protection pipe.
Liquids or water accumulated inside the indicator might
cause corrosion and lead to malfunctioning of the instrument. Drain the condensates regularly using the drain
plug at the bottom of indicator.
