The meeting was called to order.

1. Introduction of the Council Members.

2. March minutes were approved.

3. Announcement:
• No Treasurer’s report.
• No departmental announcements.

4. New Business
• Staff picnic: Thursday, July 15, 2010.
• New members to order SAC t-shirts.
• Sarah Childs requested thank-you cards to send to egg-hunt donors.

5. Old business
• Policy for a subpoenaed state witness:
○ Main issue: would this apply for personal issues?
 No, only if there is no personal interest involved in the case.
○ It would be handled as a regular pay day (would come out of the department’s
budget).
○ The overwhelming majority of the staff suggested that this should be handled the
same way as jury duty.
○ Question was raised why this actually calls for a policy change if it is so rare.
 A policy change will ensure that all cases be treated the same.
○ VOTE: the SAC voted all in favor for a new policy for subpoenaed state
witnesses. This case will now be brought to HR.
• Flyer vs. mass email:
○ Christa Bruning spoke to Jeff Derksen in UTS and Donna Dible in HR about this
issue.
○ It is possible to pull distribution lists for all departments except for Athletics.
○ UTS willing to email text with graphics – does need one week notice.
○ Regarding the suggestion of emailing one flyer to each department which then
will be distributed and/or posted by one individual to his/her department: no clear
answer yet; Christa will follow up with Donna (she is currently out of town).
○ There is a huge interest to cut paper usage for this purpose across campus.
○ The SAC will keep working with the sustainability council until a solution is
found.
• Egg hunt recap:
○ Event was, again, a huge success.
○ All event details etc. were sent out electronically (no actual flyers) – proof that a
move away from printed material can work.
• Bring your child to work day: Thursday, April 22
○ Currently 35 RSVPs (last year 25 participants)
○ Fire fighter will be present.
○ Working with NSM to organize a science project.
○ Working with Lamont to present music.

Meeting adjourned.

Next meeting: May 12, 2010, 12 – 1 pm

Respectfully submitted,

Saskia Sawyer
Secretary
