Overview
In this lab you will learn how to configure and provision a virtual machine using the
Azure Preview Portal.

Objectives
This lab will show how to:
Login to the Azure Management Portal
Create a Virtual Machine

System requirements
You must have the following to complete this demo:
A reliable Internet connection
An active Microsoft Azure subscription

Exercise 1: Create a Virtual Machine using the Azure


Preview Portal
Task 1: Login

Launch a browser and navigate to https://portal.azure.com. Once prompted,


login with your Microsoft Azure credentials.
Note: You may need to launch an "in-private" session in your browser if you
have multiple Microsoft Accounts.

After you enter your email, select whether this is a Microsoft or Organization
account if prompted.

Task 2: Create a new virtual machine


1. Click on the +NEW link at the bottom-left corner of the screen.

2. Select Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter

3. Specify the following configuration:


a. Host Name: DEMOVM1
b. User Name: demouser
c. Password: demo@pass1

4. Click the Pricing Tier tile.

5. Click the BROWSE ALL PRICING TIERS tile.

6. Select the A1 Standard instance size, and click the SELECT button until you
are back to the main configuration blade.

7. Click the OPTIONAL CONIFGURATION tile.

8. Click the NETWORK tile.

9. Click the VIRTUAL NETWORK tile.

10.Change the name of the default virtual network to TrainingVNET and then
click OK.
Note: Using the preview portal you will always deploy a virtual machine into a
virtual network.

11.Click the DOMAIN NAME tile.

12.Give the domain name a somewhat descriptive yet unique name (the green
checkmark must appear).
Note: This is the same as the Cloud Service name in the current Azure
Management Portal

13.Click IP ADDRESSES.

14.Using the new portal you can specify multiple advanced settings on the
virtual machine at provisioning time. Close the IP configuration blade after
review and then click OK on then network configuration blade.
Note: Do not change any of the settings on the dialog at this time.

15.Click the STORAGE ACCOUNT tile.

16.Give the storage account a more descriptive name, and then click PRICING
TIER.

17.Change the storage account pricing tier to L LRS (local replicated storage).
Note: You may change the pricing tier of your storage account later as well.

18.Click OK until you are back to the primary blade of the virtual machine
configuration.
19.Click the LOCATION tile, and change the location to the closest Azure region
to you.

20.Note the name of the resource group the virtual machine is created in. This
will also be used in the next lab.

21.Then click the CREATE button to create the virtual machine.

Summary
In this lab you have learned how to configure and provision a virtual machine using
the Azure Preview Portal.
