One possible risk that athletes can acquire is an injury when using softball equipment such as bats, balls etc. To reduce this risk, we will teach proper techniques when using the equipment. Also, we will reinforce the safety issues and appropriate behavior before using the equipment at the beginning of the season, and again every time we use the equipment. We will transfer this risk by having players and parents sign consent forms at the beginning of the season documenting that there will be use of such equipment, and the potential dangers that may arise from that. A way to reduce the risk is to provide adequate supervision at all times when athletes are using the equipment. Another risk we may encounter is students do not have the proper form or technique when we are focusing on activities that require a certain movement. This can lead to shoulder/arm injuries, pulled muscles, or other types of injuries may occur. To transfer this risk, we will have all the activities listed at the beginning of the season, and the risks that may occur. Also, we can help reduce the risk by up keeping the facilities we are using. For example, when we are on the field we will make sure the grass is cut properly, and there are no holes or divots in the ground. Also, we can reduce the risk by teaching the proper technique efficiently and give players enough time to practice the skill and retain the proper technique before being fully emerged in an activity. A third risk we may encounter could be caused by faulty or damaged equipment. To avoid this risk, we will check equipment daily and make sure each piece passes an inspection checklist. We will teach the proper use and treatment of all equipment; therefore, it will be kept in good condition and will last as long as possible.
