Discussion: Green for All: Thursday, July 24, 2008

Could "green-collar" jobs clean the "dirty-energy economy" and lift people out of poverty? In the
past, job creation and protecting the environment have been, some say, mutually exclusive. But
in 2007, the Green Jobs Act and the founding of Green for All, an organization that focuses on
green job training, marked the beginning of a movement to redefine economic growth. Is it
possible to reconcile these historic opposites? Senator Steinberg and Green for All founder Jones
talk about green economic development and its potential.

Van Jones, Founder and CEO, Green for All

Sustainable Conservation – PlantRight - Project Manager

Invasive species are the second greatest threat to wildlife and biodiversity after habitat
destruction. They crowd out native plants, insects and animals, and can lead to flooding, fire and
crop losses. California alone spends more than $85 million each year on control and eradication.
Although most garden plants don’t pose a threat, more than half of all invasive varieties
originally arrived through gardens and landscaping. Sustainable Conservation created
PlantRight in 2004 to connect California’s horticultural industry – including nurseries, retailers
and landscape professionals – with botanic gardens and environmental groups to address the
problems of invasive garden plants. Our collaborative, science-based program promotes
collaboration, encourages buy-in from all affected parties, and avoids regulation and litigation.
We are finding solutions that are economically viable for the horticultural industry and that make
a significant difference to our natural areas. We are seeking an experienced project manager and
meeting facilitator to lead the PlantRight team. Candidates must have a background in
environmental work and experience problem-solving with diverse parties. We are looking for a
manager with strong interpersonal skills, leadership, and ability to gracefully and positively
resolve conflict. For more information and a detailed job description, go to:
