WCDMA Transmitter and Receiver unit (1 to 3 units)

The WCDMA Transmitter and Receiver unit (WTR) consists of a transmitter and
receiver modules. Main functions of the WTR are:
Digital data modulation and up conversion in the transmitter
Channel selection, down conversion and signal digitalizing in the receiver
The operating principle is same for WTRA and WTRB.
WCDMA Transmitter and Receiver unit, WTRA (Rel1)

On the transmit side, theWCDMATransmitter and Receiver unit (WTR) receives

digital data from the WCDMA Signal Processing unit (WSP) via the WCDMA
Summing and Multiplexing unit (WSM) and performs the modulation and up
conversion of the carrier, which is amplified by the WCDMA Power Amplifier
(WPA).
On the receive side, the WTR performs channel selection and down conversion
for the selected carrier. The received signal is digitised and connected to the
WSP
via the WSM.
The main features of the WTRA unit are:
One receiver consisting of two RX paths: one for main and one for
diversity (RXM1 and RXD1) and one transmitter module (TX1)
RX band 1920-1980 MHz and TX band 2110-2170 MHz, duplex
separation of 190 MHz
Implementation from baseband to the RF in TX and from RF to baseband
in RX
Digital IF sampling with 61.44 MHz clock (RX)
Internal VCXO for high quality clock reference
WCDMA Transmitter and Receiver unit, WTRB (Rel2)

The Rel2 WTR unit (WTRB) offers double the capacity of the Rel1 WTR unit
(WTRA). It contains two separate TRXs that can be used independently from
each other. TRXs of the WTRB can operate on the same frequency or, if
necessary, on different frequencies. The unit offers also combined output (TX1
+TX2).

Two independent receivers, each consisting of two RX paths: one for main
and one for diversity path resulting in a total of four RX paths (RXM1,
RXD1, RXM2 and RXD2) and two independent transmitters (TX1 and
TX2)
RX band 1920-1980 MHz and TX band 2110-2170 MHz, duplex
separation of 190 MHz (WTRB can support also variable duplex
separation)
Implementation from baseband to RF in TX and from RF to baseband in
RX
Digital IF sampling with 61.44 MHz clock (RX)
Internal VCXO for high quality clock reference
WCDMA Power Amplifier (1 to 3 units)

The WDCMA Power Amplifier Unit (WMP) is a multicarrier amplifier with an

operating bandwidth of any 20 MHz section on the whole 60 MHz WCDMA
allocation. In WMP, the signals received from WTR are amplified linearly and
distributed to the WCDMA Antenna Filter Unit (WAF).
WCDMA Input Combiner (1 unit)

The WCDMA Input Combiner (WICA) unit accommodates an Ethernet hub for
the TLCI-bus.
WCDMA Antenna Filter unit (1 to 3 units)

The WCDMA Antenna Filter (WAF) combines and isolates TX/RX signals and
amplifies received signals. The unit contains a receiver multicoupler with four
outputs for main branch and four outputs for diversity branch. Also, the unit
has
an RF Monitoring port for TX signal monitoring.
TheWAFis capable of feeding operating power to twoNokia UltraSiteWCDMA
Masthead Amplifier (MHA) units.

6.4.2 WCDMA Baseband Units

This section describes the following WCDMA baseband units:

WCDMA Summing and Multiplexing unit (1 unit)

TheWCDMASumming and Multiplexing unit (WSM) sums the TX signals from

the Signal Processing units and routes it to the WTRs. RX data is routed through
the same path, but without summing.
The operating principle is the same for both WSMA and WSMB.
Rel1 (WSMA) and Rel2 (WSMB) WSMs

In Rel2 WCDMA BTS HWthe WSMA unit is replaced with the WSMB because
the WTRB doubles the carrier capacity offered by the WTRA unit. This means
that the data throughput of the WSMA has to be doubled for it to be capable of
handling WTRBs. The WSMB provides this capacity.
WCDMA Signal Processing unit (1 to 5 units)

The Signal Processing unit (WSP) performs RX and TX code channel processing,
channel coding, and channel decoding functions. Summing of the TX code
channels is performed for the code channels processed in the unit. The
operating
principle is same for WSPA and WSPC.
Rel1 (WSPA) and Rel2 (WSPC) WSPs

In Rel2 WCDMA BTS HWthe WSPA unit is replaced with the WSPC unit. The
WSPC unit offers double capacity of the WSPA unit. The WSPC unit offers 64
HWchannel capacity while WSPA unit offers 32HWchannel capacity. Rel1 and
Rel2 WSP units can be used in the same cabinet from release RAN04 onwards.
WCDMA Application Manager unit (1 to 2 units)

The WCDMA Application Manager unit (WAMA) takes care of the control
functions in NokiaWCDMABTSs, such as BTS initialization, configuration, and
O&M functions. The unit also performs transport channel processing, ATM
processing, telecom frame protocol handling and logical resource management.
One of theWAMunits in theWCDMABTS acts as the masterO&Munit and the
other one as the telecom master unit. The O&M master WAM takes care of the
BTS power up control and the control and maintenance functions during run
time.
The telecom masterWAMoperates as the main signalling counterpart to serve
the
RNC. All other WAMs perform lower levelO&Mand telecom functions. If there

is only one WAM unit in a BTS, it takes care of both master functions.
