Pay attention to the teacher.
Do no talk when your teacher or your classmates are talking.
Participate in class. If the teacher asks you a question, try to answer it.

Attendance:
It is university policy that you attend every class. Failure to attend class will negatively affect you ability to
pass the course. You cannot expect to improve your English if you do not come to class. If you are late for
class by 10 minutes, it will count as 1 absence. You will be allowed two (2) absences over the course of the
program. If you are absent, you MUST talk to your Department Head and take your absent notice(s) to your
instructor. If you are absent four (4) or more hours, unexcused, or, fail to participate in class for four (4) or more
hours, you will fail the course.

Grading:
Attendance = 20%.
Homework/Participation = 20%. (as determined by the instructor)
Mid-term Exam: No Pass/Fail (70%+ to pass).
40% (acts as Final Exam)
Final Exam: No Pass/Fail (70%+ to pass).
Students MUST take BOTH the Mid-term and the Final. No student can pass the class with only one (1) exam score even
if the one exam score is above 70%.

TOEIC Test: Pass/Fail. [(TOEIC Test certificate must be given to the instructor.) 20% (acts as Mid-term Exam) ]
Students should take the simulated TOEIC test vol. 15 online. Students will be informed of this on orientation
day (June 15).

Grading Distribution Scale (Curving):

GEEC is graded as Pass / Fail. There are no numeric or letter grades. A Pass or Fail is given based on the
students Attendance, Participation, Mid-Term & Final Exam and completing one (1) TOEIC practice test. Teachers
may elect to give quizzes or exams during the course but this is not a requirement and will not affect a students
final Pass or Fail. Failure to complete the TOEIC requirement will result in Failure for the course, regardless of
other scores.
