similarities/differences & conclusion

1. Answers of grandparents

Similarities
1. size of families
2. household

Differences
1.
2.

jobs
education

Conclusion answers grandparents

While we were working on the interviews we found out that the families were quite
similar and big. The parents of our grandparents had even bigger families, with 8 to 10
family members. The families of our grandparent were slightly smaller, with 6-8 family
members.
We also saw that women were less appreciated and men were more important. This was
because men had better opportunities on different levels.

Women did everything in the household. Men didnt help at all in household. Only in
some cases they helped with technical work in house and garden.
Also with jobs women had less chance. Men could get good jobs with a nice salary, while
women were mostly housewife or they did a household for someone else. Women got
paid less while they worked in equal amounts.

2. Answers of parents

Similarities
1. size of family
2. household

Differences
1. jobs

2 education

Parents had families with 4-5 family members. Mostly 1 family lived in 1 house with
sometimes a grandparent to take care of, this was because they needed help but
couldnt pay for it so the family had to help.
Still men were more important but less as first, for example boys and girls went to the
same school and got the same education.
Women still did more in household but men did small things to help, like cooking,
cleaning and vacuuming. The rest was still the job of women.
Women could also choose the same job as men but men were wanted more. While
women did the same job as men, they still got less paid.

3. Compare the answers of the grandparents and the parents

Similarities
1.

household

Differences
1 jobs

2 education

Still women had to do more in the household as men, but throughout the years men did
help more.
Men had better jobs during the time of the grandparents, this has also changed
throughout the years.

Men had better education during the time of grandparents, this has also changed
throughout the years

4. Conclusion. Answers to main question

We think now girls and boys are equal because we can choose the same jobs and the
same education.
in household men still do less but they do help

a. Comparison

We read the articles of

1. School/group
Het College Weert, gender related roles
2. School /group
Hiranandani, gender related roles
Similarities between the situation of the
grandparents
1. Less opportunities for women

2. Household divided unequally

Similarities between the situation of the

parents
1. Improvement in education rights for
girls
2. Men more wanted for a job
3. Women got less paid

b. Reflection
Research and group work. What went well/what would you do differently?
Improve
Divide the work more equally because Emkea and Gijs did almost everything, and the little
things Tristan had to do he didnt finish but after asking like thousand times. (interviews
and some pictures), and Dominique just didnt send pictures and interviews after asking
like thousand times.

Went well
3 of us managed to make the assignments and hand them in on time

What did you learn about the topic?

We have learned a lot about different subjects. For example about the lives of our
grandparents and parents, how society has changed over the past generations and we
have seen that live on the other side of the world can be quite similar.
