NCCK

The National Council of Churches in Korea

May 25, 2016

Dear Partners in Christs work for peace,
It is with pleasure and confident hope that we have concluded the NCCK Travel Study Workshop
for a Korea Peace Treaty which was held over the period from May 16 to May 24 in Jeju and
Seoul.
When we wrote to members of the North America Asia Forum and the Ecumenical Forum in
December, and later to some of our Asian partners, we stated the purpose of this campaign as
The global peace treaty campaign aims to connect the constituents of Koreas international

partners more intimately to the movement for a Peace Treaty and to familiarize partners with the
origin and context of division and conflict, and its legacy in South and North. To achieve our aim
we want to identify a network of key persons among the NCCK partners who will educate their
constituents on Korean division and the need for a peace treaty on the path to resolution of our
issue.
We thank you, our partners, for taking this proposal so seriously, and thus delegating people who
did get deeply immersed in the Korean reality and whom we are confident will be strong
proponents for a Korean peace treaty in their home areas. We at NCCK were delighted with the
quality of people who joined this workshop, and look forward to working with them in ongoing
actions toward peace and human rights in Korea.

We request that they receive support from the

national offices of their denominations and organizations in their efforts towards education and
advocacy to Korea.
With thanks and in solidarity,

Rev. Dr. Kim Young Ju, General Secretary, National Council of Churches in Korea
For the Campaign Planning Committee, Rev. Shin Seung Min, Rev. Roh Hye Min,
Rev. Kurt Esslinger and Rev. Catherine Christie
