Central Teaching of Vedanta.

The central teaching is you are that. Tat Tvam Asi. When one lives abiding
in that self-knowledge, not as a person who knows about self-knowledge,
then the divinity starts flowing through the person as blessings to the entire
humanity. This is what the life of all Mahatmas show to us.
There is funny story about this. One devotee prayed and did austerities for
Bhagavan Darshan.Bhagavan manifested before him and asked him what is
your desire. The person looked at Bhagavan and asked, bhagavan please
give me a head on my shoulders. Bhagavan got perplexed and told him I
cant do that as you already have a head on your shoulders and if you want I
can give additional heads. The devotee felt disappointed and said, No, no. I
want only one head on my shoulder. Bhagavan said it is not possible as you
already have one. Then the devotee asked bhagavan, What is the solution
for my desire. Bhagavan answered understanding that, I have already have
head on my shoulder. In the same way we are already that what we seek.
The vision of Sruti is you are already free and you are that fullness.
Brahman and you cannot be improved upon, as already you are that Poorna.
The truth of the scriptures is you as the satchitananda cannot be bettered
upon and you as the truth can never be negated. The maxim sanatana dharma
is a view and way of life. The view of life is you are that whole and the
whole way of life is designed to help us to understand that view.
But the problem comes when I am not able to understand this vision of Sruti.
Even though my svarupa is moksha or ananda svarupa I am not able to
understand it, so I need a valid means of knowledge to reveal the truth. That
is the basis of our seeking for the teachings. Even though the knowledge is
available, there is no guarantee that one will understand this teaching, as the
place where the understanding should happen may not be ready.
When the mind is unprepared this looks like a tall claim.
So whatever sadhana we are doing is to break the orientation that I am not
liberated or I am not the whole.
So the question is how to re orient the mind to the vision of the sruti.
Brahma deva advised aswalayana rishi in the beginning of Kaivalya
Upanishad as follows.
Sraddha bhakti dhyana yogad avaihi. Sraddha takes us to the teacher, it
takes us to listen Vedanta, then our daily prayers in the form of kayika,
vachika, manasa karmas and the value based living makes us adhikari for
this knowledge (Bhakti), and in that prepared mind that listens to the sastras
and does mananam and nidhidhyasanam (Dhyana yoga) that truth shines
itself.
