This is my second FAQ submission to GameFAQs.com and my first as it relates to
a main installment game of the Pokemon franchise. It is a minor FAQ in that it
only details a part of a game, Pokemon Platinum's Battle Frontier, but as we
are hopefully already aware of, these games demand a lot of attention and
explanation! So here we go...
The Battle Frontier was reintroduced in Pokemon Platinum. The concept makes a
welcome return after being absent since Pokemon Emerald. In its update many
facilities have been dropped or replaced. The Frontier now includes five
unique Battle arenas that offer not only different challenges but their own
set of rewards. With everything going on in the Frontier it seemed only right
to assemble a FAQ detailing everything that is offered there.
| Vizv |=====================/ Visual Version \=====================| Vizv |
This FAQ is an adaptation of one I had already written in hyper-text mark-up
language for my website. It is very visual and includes graphics that you just
can't fit into a text guide without being a bit loopy. That said, visit the
following link for graphical enhancement and ease-of-use, if you so see fit...

\----------------------------------------------------------------------------/
While Diamond and Pearl only offer the Battle Tower, in the Fight Area,
Platinum adds four additional arenas for making challenges. This expanded area

keeps the same moniker as was used in Emerald, The Battle Frontier.
As you progress through the Frontier you will earn BP (Battle Points). Below
the things that can be purchased for BP, in each game, are detailed below.
There are two corners where you can spend BP.
The first corner, The Exchange Service Corner, is divided into two stands.
They are hereby referred to as the Items Stand and the Technical Machines
Stand.
| ItStd |======================/ Items Stand \=====================| ItStd |
If you guessed the Items Stand sells Items for BP... You're correct! This
Stand is located to the left, under the blue and white sunshade, in Platinum.
The items for sale are as follows and have broken apart according use...

Note that this section is not found in Diamond/Pearl. It is only found in
Platinum's Frontier Square.
The second corner, located under the green and white sunshade (in Platinum),
is the Pokemon Scratch-Off Corner. Here you can select any three of four
available cards for 1 BP. You will then proceed to try and scratch-off three
of nine greyed out areas to reveal Pokemon that match one of the prizes
displayed on the top screen.
Ditto can be used to substitute for a Pokemon if you have two others that
match, or two Ditto and one Pokemon. A list of the available prizes follows.

\----------------------------------------------------------------------------/
The Battle Tower facility is located in the northernmost portion of the Battle
Frontier.
Pokemon have their levels adjusted to level 50. Each Pokemon must hold a
different item, if the Pokemon will hold items at all.
The Battle Tower is relatively unchanged from Diamond/Pearl and reminiscent of
Battle Towers encountered in third generation and second generation games. The
goal is the same simple concept, to win consecutive battles.

The second meeting with Palmer adds a bit of unpredictability. You will have
to win 48 straight battles to get Palmer to challenge you again. This time,
one of his Pokemon will be chosen at random. As with before, only three moves
are known for the Pokemon you can be sure that Palmer has while one is
randomly chosen at the battle's start. While one Pokemon will be randomly
chosen Ground and Fighting type attacks would be a safe bet to use against the
two Pokemon you know he has.

The Battle Factory facility is located in the easternmost portion of the

You can choose to have Pokemon's levels set at 50 or at level 100. WiFi
battles are not available here.
The Battle Factory is relatively unchanged from Diamond/Pearl. You will choose
a team of three(single battles)/four(double/multi) from a group of six
randomly generated Pokemon. If you win a match you have the option of trading
one of your Pokemon for one of the Pokemon your previous opponent used.
Selecting level 100 will make things easier on yourself in the long-run,
honestly. In terms of concept the Battle Factory is really very light...

The Battle Arcade facility appears only in Platinum and is located in the
southeast corner of the Battle Frontier.
Pokemon have their levels adjusted to level 50. Held items are taken away for
the duration of your challenge.
The Battle Arcade is based on the luck of making a selection from a roulette
board. You will be forced to try and select the square you want, which will
determine what event will occur next. The various squares and their effects
are listed later on, on this page. Depending on the event you may have a
battle or even be able to skip it. Regardless, you will be coming back to the
roulette board seven times a round, assuming you can keep your streak alive!

| BaCa |======================\ Battle Castle /=====================| BaCa |
/----------------------------------------------------------------------------\
\----------------------------------------------------------------------------/
The Battle Castle facility is located in the southwestern portion of the
Battle Frontier.
Pokemon have their levels adjusted to level 50. Held items are not permitted.
WiFi challenges are not available.
The Battle Castle is, as a personal opinion, the most complex and deep
facilities offered in Platinum's Battle Frontier. The goal is basically to w
in
Castle Points, unique to this facility, and use them to manage your team to
progress through the Castle.
There are a variety of things you can do with points. For instance, you could
gamble by using points to up the level of an opponent's Pokemon and then,
assuming you win, you will reap an even bigger payout. This is a difficult
facility where planning and conservation are necessary.

| CasPt |==================/ Castle Points (CP) \==================| CasPt |

The chosen moniker, Castle Points (CP), can be a little confusing given the
name of the facility is the Battle Castle where you can also win Battle
Points... At any rate, Castle Points are awarded at the end of a match.
When you first begin your challenge you are given 10 CP. From that point
forward you will win CP based on your performance in matches. CP are important
as they will help you progress through the castle, including doing things like
healing your team. It is key to conserve and plan to succeed here. That said,
as long as you can maintain a win streak you will enter the Castle with the
amount of points you left with.
Details on the various things you can do with Castle Points are provided in
the tables below (for info on Ranks scroll to the Castle Ranks heading)...
| ECasPo |===============/ Earning Castle Points \==============| ECasPo |
Earning CP is obviously a major focus as you try and make your through the

| BaHa |=======================\ Battle Hall /======================| BaHa |
/----------------------------------------------------------------------------\
\----------------------------------------------------------------------------/
The Battle Hall facility is located in the northwest portion of the Battle
Frontier.
The levels of your Pokemon are not adjusted upon entry. Held items are
allowed.
In this facility you are only permitted use of one Pokemon. It is important to
pick a Pokemon with good typing, ex. Water/Dragon that can use a variety of
different types of attacking moves.
You will be asked to choose a type before a match begins. The best thing to do
would be to start with types that you are weak against. Each of these types
will increase to a max of Rank 10 and, as your streak progresses, opponent
levels will also increase. As a result you should be saving the least
threatening types for last.
Keep type dualities in mind! Suppose you chose Kingdra as your Pokemon and you
have worked up to Rank 10 in Dragon. You may still encounter a Dragonite when
facing Flying types, Garchomp when facing Ground types, etc.
