! PRE CHECK
Hydrogen sulphide (H2S) and oxygen (O2) detection (fixed or handheld) is
present at the workplace

Get informed about the detection system (acoustic alarm / flash light)
Dangers of sewer gas are known
Escape route to assembly point is known
An extra breathing apparatus is present in case of an emergency
Alarm number of the site is known
Workplace is ventilated

DO
Use correct Personal Protective Equipment that is in good condition

Monitor vapour / gas levels to remain within safe limits

Use motors, wiring and lights that are explosion-proof
Always follow instructions of your supervisor
Leave the workplace in case the alarm has been activated
Report to the supervisor in case of an alarm
Make sure emergency equipment is available (e.g. ladders, ropes)

DO NOT
Undertake any work if you are not qualified
Allow open flames within 10 meters of the digester
Open any sampling wells when not ordered

Work in an area with sewer gas hazard without a permit

Stand downwind when the alarm is activated

Always use your common sense before and during the performance of your task
