50% SC-ST reservation vs 27%

OBC reservation issue in

Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar
University (Central) Lucknow
Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University was established upon the foundation
vow of giving higher educational & research opportunities to people in general
and specially to oppressed classes that are Schedule casts and Schedule tribes.
University act clearly states it must promote the principles of social justice laid
down by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and pay special attention to the promotion of
educational and economic interests and welfare of members of Scheduled Cast
and Scheduled Tribes in particular by providing them adequate percentage of
reserved seats. To fulfil the foundation pledge of University, 50% SC-ST
reservation quota for the purpose of admission to all courses of study was
implemented through academic ordinance at the very dawn of this university.
Detailed study of University act concludes foundation oath deals with Other
backward and general classes as people in general and seeks special aid to SCST. But the issue of OBC reservation surfaced here many a times and brought
turmoils in the inter-caste student dynamics. Every single time the issue has been
raised, the harmony between students who are in general divided by social
constructs like cast, got disturbed. This time also it is being observed that the
dynamical consensus of students gradually getting disturbed big time.
Conspiratorial character of this entire phenomena can be seen even by a layman
eye. Issue of bringing OBC reservation has not been raised out of the crying need
of social justice, it is basically a political stance to oppress the previously
oppressed and tyrannise them. Over the last decade University just has set up

some concrete structures named Central Library, Auditorium, Home science

dept. building etc but never addressed sincerely the internal issues of existing
constructions and departments. The misery of laboratory facility knows literally
no bounds. Completion of entire syllabus is something we must not talk about.
Interactive education has no place in this entire campus. And lastly the major
issues of discrimination in terms of cast, creed, race and gender remain
unaddressed here. But as per OBC issue raising self claimed whistle blowers, the
call of situation is university must address the reservation for other backward
classes with its utmost sincerity.
The most alarming thing is the intervention of present government in this entire
issue. Like other institutes (JNU, HCU, BHU), centre is intervening in this issue
in an age old pattern. It is well known that their politics always had that sole
ingredient in it and that is polarising people in terms of some abstract
constructed concepts. Sometimes it is religion, sometimes caste and
nowadays it is nationalism. Here in Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University
they have deployed their machinery of polarisation in terms of the parameter
named 27% OBC reservation. They are well aware of human sentiments and
know how to exploit those. They made OBC think, it is the golden opportunity for
them to claim their right, whereas this same ruling party and their student wing
opposed OBC reservation in JNU campus. General students of Babasaheb
Bhimrao Ambedkar University are now bound to think it is their silver
opportunity to grab 50% seats as open category. And lastly SC-ST has no other
option left except opposing the whole agenda. Default condition is general
people supporting the OBC issue and they are getting strengthened in terms of
number to counter the 70% SC-ST population in university. OBC people could
have asked ruling party to bring a new Institutional space with 50% reservation
for them. But no, they will to get exploited. They will to get into naked fist fight
with their fellow oppressed SC-ST people. In a nutshell, by creating a chaos in
university campus, ruling party wish to fulfil their Anti-reservation, Anti-

quality-education etc agendas and also wish to reach and manipulate people to
achieve some pretty stinky political gain.
Brahmanical discrimination with lower caste people still holds its gravity of equal
amount what it had in 1927 when Babasaheb burned the Manusmiriti for the first
time. There are a number of anti-reservation proxy parties and organisations
got constructed in the span of two years. The politically fabricated condition of
Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University is basically the blistering example of
such proxy construction. People are yet not ready to reject the whole idea of
discrimination and address the immediate issues like drought, unemployment
etc. They are still busy in politically motivated fist fighting. And ironically at a
times they are enjoying it too. Sigh!
