Requirements (if not already done):

P Done

Unisphere Service Manager (USM)

CAP2

Running the Storage System Verification Utility

.a Connect to the storage system using a Windows server/laptop with access to both SPs from the
customers LAN, or with a connection to one of the Service LAN ports (CX3 series and CX4 series
only).
.b Log into the storage system using USM.
.c Select Hardware, Verify Storage System.
.d Follow the steps in the Wizard.\
.e When all the data has been gathered, click on Display Issues Report
.f The Issues report will be displayed.
.g If there are no errors shown, then go to the step entitled Submitting the TAC Report below.
.3

If any issues are shown, use CAP2 to further check the state of the system.
Critical: requires that something be done to correct the issue

Warning: requires investigation, but may not need to be addressed

Informational: does not require any action.
WARNING: If any listed issues require attention, you are responsible for correcting the problem and
rerunning the Storage System Verification Utility to verify that those issues have been resolved. Do
not submit a report that contains errors.
If uncertain, it is recommended that you use normal troubleshooting methods such as the CAP2 and/or
SPLAT tools to define and repair any issues. See Tools Launch for options within CAP2 (for
example, SPLAT). If you are still not 100% certain that the backend is clean, then escalate the case to
CLARiiON Technical Support.
.a Start CAP2 using one of the following methods:
.b Select File, Open, Browse to the location where the Storage System Verification is stored and
open the output file. The Storage System Verification will have created a file in a folder in the
repository location:
<repository_location>\DiagnosticData/<array_serial_number> (the default location for
the repository is c:\emc\repository) and the file name format will be:
<date_time>_.cap_<array_serial_number>_<date_time>.xml
.c Review the output and correct the issue.
.d Change to the Analysis tab and review the report for any errors.
.e When all errors have been addressed, rerun the Storage System Verification Utility, see the
Running the Storage System Verification Utility section above.

The TAC report is used to update the EMC SYR repository with customer installation and configuration
details. This will help in tracking installed versions of FLARE code, replication software (layered
applications), and hardware components. This install activity should not be considered complete until
the file has been uploaded
The Storage System Verification will have created a file in a folder in the repository location:
<repository_location>\<array_serial_number>\HCK\ (the default location for the repository is
c:\emc\repository) and the file name format will be:
<date_time>_.cap_<array_serial_number>_<date_time>.xml
If you are not an EMC employee, then proceed to the section below labeled Non-EMC
Employees.

EMC Employees
If you are an EMC employee, you can upload the xml file to the SYR server (the repository for the data
collection files). You need to be connected to the EMC network to access the SYR server; if you
cannot access SYR for some reason, save the file to your laptop and go to the section called NonEMC Employees to use email to send the file.
.a Access SYR:
http://omega.eng.emc.com/omega/Apps/AppsContainer.asp?DefaultAppID=1&PageName=../AppS
YR/application/fileupload2.asp?prod_id=10
orhttp://omega.eng.emc.com/omega/Apps/AppsContainer.asp?DefaultAppID=1
Select CLARiiON, Manual Update.
.b Enter the Serial number of the array and click on Search
.c Click on Upload.
.d Browse to the directory where the xml file was saved and locate the
<date_time>_.cap_<array_serial_number>_<date_time>.xml that is to be uploaded
.e Click Upload to upload the file.
.f After uploading the file, verify the file was uploaded correctly. Enter the CLARiiON serial number
and click original files (ftp). The file that you uploaded will be displayed.
.g Repeat for each array configured.

Non-EMC Employees

Collect and submit the TAC report as follows:

.a Send an email to cshelpdesk@emc.com
Subject line should be: CLARiiON Assessment for <array_serial_number>
Body should state:
Array assessment done on <date> by <engineer_email_address>
FLARE version installed on the storage system
Any issues discovered during the assessment
.b Attach the <date_time>_.cap_<array_serial_number>_<date_time>.xml file.
