Course Description:
This course will enable students to develop short and long-range plans to effectively accomplish
organizational goals. Through the use of terminology, exercises and case studies, students will be
able to give a critical appraisal of real life situations involving organizing, staffing and motivating
others. The student will also learn tools to aid in problem solving, valuing diversity and coping with
change

Learning Objectives:
The principles learned in this course will allow the student to effectively work with and through
others in an organization. The principles are relevant to any type of organization or group,
empowering the student to lead others, negotiate, embrace change and better understand the role of
business in society.

Management Principles and Practices by Griffin, W. R. 11th Edition, International Edition.

References: Management A Global and Entrepreneurial Perspective by Weihrich, H., Cannice,


M.V., Koontz, H. 13th Edition.

News Resources:
To remain updated with the current issues of business and management, you are expected to have
regular access to the following business news resources: Wall Street Journal, The financial Express,
Forbes, The Economist, Financial Times, Business Week, BBC Business & Management Report,
and related internet sites.

Teaching Methods:
Class will arrange by face to face interaction between the students and the course teacher. Also
small group activities, interactive discussion will be included. You are required to read the chapter
in advanced before attending each class. Class lectures are not substitutes for the reading. It will
only help you to understand the difficult parts of the readings.

Term paper/Project:
The term project is a written report (case study) on the management practices of an organization
with the main emphasis on highlighting exceptional or excellent management practices and
techniques. It is an individual report, but if several individuals wish to form a team that is a good
alternative.

Exam Policies:
The question format of the quizzes and exams will be discussed in the class. There will be NO make
up of any exam/quizzes. Assignments should be handed in on the due date. Late submissions will
not be entertained. To obtain higher marks please show your workings.
