Description

A two-sided, color brochure

Objectives

Create a brochure using an original logo. Incorporate

quality images. One image should be clipped in
Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign.

Process

I created a logo in Illustrator using the pen and shape

tools. The images were found on pixabay.com and
photoshopped. A gaussian blur was used for the cover
image of the dancers in blue and pink. I cut out the side
of the ballerina legs photo using the pen tool and eraser.
Then I placed my images in a new InDesign document
and used text wrap for the text around the leg photo.

Description

Logo for a fictitious company

Objectives

Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw a logo.

Create a version in greyscale and a version in white on a
color background.

Process

After sketching a few ideas, I created my three favorite

in Adobe Illustrator. People voted on which design was
best and then I refined the top pick. The shape builder
was used for the plug and the line tool for the cord. I
adjusted the line of the cord to go as far as the text for
alignment. I downloaded the fonts from DaFont.com

Description

An inspirational montage created by blending three

images using Photoshop.

Objectives

Process

Unify a layout with a consistent theme and dominant

spiritual message. Blend two or more images together,
using masks. Use a mask to apply a filter to one part of
the image.

First, I adjusted the hue and saturation for each image. I

also changed the levels for the music and temple images,
as well as the vibrance for the temple. I added a soft light
filter on the music photo with 75% opacity. A mask was
placed on each image and I used the brush tool to blend
the images, using different opacities. The text was placed
on the left third with contrasting fonts for visual interest.

Description

A web page showcasing an original logo.

Objectives

Acquire a working knowledge of HTML and CSS.

Identify and incorporate hex colors to match logo. Size
and optimize an original logo as a .PNG for a web page.

Process

I edited and attached a pre-made CSS document to a

pre-made HTML document. I added my logo, <div>
tags, and blog link. Photoshop was used to adjust the
polka dot image. Styling was added to the link so that
it would change colors when hovering or clicked. ID
selectors were given to the <div> tags so that two <li>
could be floated to the right.

Description

A poster layout with an edited image and color scheme.

Objectives

Demonstrate good photography and image editing skills.

Use a color scheme to create a poster layout with original
photo. Use layers to design text and graphic elements.

Process

I captured this image of the leaves in my backyard

and then edited the levels, vibrance, and sharpness in
Photoshop. I opened a new layer and created shapes to
cut out the picture. I merged the layers of the image and
the shapes and moved the shape layer beneath my image
layer. Then I added a clipping mask. The text was placed
on top and I incorporated an analogous color scheme.

Black and white flier

Objectives

Apply design principles and use appropriate typography

to create a flier. Incorporate basic InDesign skills. Create a
project folder with image, logo, and InDesign document
to keep links in InDesign intact.

Process

I wanted Leadership to be a focal point, so I made the

font larger and added kerning. I added the body copy
and arranged the text, picture, logo, and title where I felt
would be most appealing. Proximity was employed to
create relationships between items such as the date, time,
and place. I used the color from the womans blazer for
the banner color to highlight the date, time, and place.

Description

A color, full-bleed fundraiser event ad created using a

scanner and Microsoft Word.

Objectives

Scan and import a high-quality image. Learn to use only

Word design features and create a full-bleed design for
an event ad.

Process

I began by using a HP Laserjet 500 color M55 scanner

to scan in a magazine page. I opened the image in Word
and cropped it to the size I wanted. I added a title and
minimal text, because the image speaks well for itself.
Proximity was employed for related text such as the
date, time, place, and admission. Left alignment was used
for asymmetry. Pdf2jpg.net to convert the PDF to a JPG.

Description

Business card design using an original logo.

Objectives

Design a business card by implementing a new logo.

Apply typography rules, keeping body copy small.

Process

The logo was created in Illustrator, using the shape tool

for the buttons. I downloaded the fonts from DaFont.com.
After opening a new InDesign document and creating
a 3.5 by 2 inch rectangle, I placed the .AI file so the logo
was on the left of the rectangle. I rotated the logo and
then added three curved lines with colors from my color
scheme. Then I added the contact information.
