SCOPE OF WORK:
This is the Scope of Work for the installation and commissioning of multimode fibre
optic cables required at Hydra Station within the new 765kV control room and also
between the 765kV control and the Diameter Marshalling Kiosks (DMKs).

1. REFERENCE DOCUMENTS.
All work must be done in accordance with the Standards and specifications listed below.

3. MATERIALS
3.1 Eskom will be responsible for providing all the following materials as free issue items to
the Contractor:
3.1.1 Standard Equipment Cabinets.
3.1.2 All fibre patch leads
3.1.3 All fibre patch panels, 19 inch (1u).
3.2 The contractor will be responsible for providing:
3.2.1 All fibre cables. The contractor shall tender on the A1a.2 multimode fibre type. All
lengths of the fibre optic cables must be confirmed by the contractor.
3.2.2 All cable trays supplied. The contractor shall provide Eskom with a full technical
specification of the cable trays to be installed prior to the commencement of
work.
4. SCOPE OF WORK
4.1 The scope of work covers the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the fibre
optic cables mentioned below.
FROM THE DMKs MA, MB and MC
4.1.1. In each DMK two 3M Patch Panels will be installed by ABB in the TIE Panel. If there is
no TIE panel, then the patch panels will be installed in the Bay 2 Panel. All cables
terminated in the DMKs will be spliced onto these 3M patch panels.
4.1.2. Two 12 core multimode (50/125m) metal free Heavy Duty Duct (HDD) cables to be
installed from each of the three 765kV DMKs to the Fibre Optic Switching cabinets
(FSP) situated in the 765kV Tx control room (as per Specification TSP41-665).
4.1.3. The fibre optic duct cable shall be installed in directly buried 40mm (Outside diameter)
or 33mm (Inside diameter) Optex ducting from Nextube, or a Class 6 HDPE
equivalent.
4.1.4. A single length of duct cable shall be utilised; no joints will be tolerated.
4.1.5. From DMK MA, one fibre cable will go FSP 1 (labelled MA.TBJBP.FSP1.8070) and the
other will go to FSP 2 (labelled MA.TBJBP.FSP2.8070).
4.1.6. From DMK MB, one fibre cable will go FSP 1 (labelled MB.B2JBP.FSP1.8070) and the
other will go to FSP 2 (labelled MB. B2JBP.FSP2.8070).
4.1.7. From DMK MC, one fibre cable will go FSP 1 (labelled MC.TBJBP.FSP1.8070) and
the other will go to FSP 2 (labelled MC.TBJBP.FSP2.8070).
4.1.8. The cables will be laid in the same trench at a minimum depth of 500mm below
ground level. Refer to points 1.2.1 & 1.2.2 for the trench layouts.
4.1.9. The fibre optic cable shall be glanded on the outer sheath using a compression gland
where it enters the FSP cabinets.
FROM DIAMETER MA
4.1.10.
Install one 12 core multimode (50/125m) cable from the DIAMETER MA cabinet
to FSP 1. The fibre cable will be labelled MA.IP.FSP1.8070
4.1.11.
Install one 12 core multimode (50/125m) cable from the DIAMETER MA cabinet
to FSP 2. The fibre cable will be labelled MA.IP.FSP2.8070
4.1.12.
All cables terminated in the DIAMETER MA panel will be spliced onto the 3M
patch panels supplied in the cabinet.
4.1.13.
The fibre optic cable shall be glanded on the outer sheath using a compression
gland where it enters the FSP cabinets.
FROM DIAMETER MB
4.1.14.
Install one 12 core multimode (50/125m) cable from the DIAMETER MB cabinet
to FSP 1. The fibre cable will be labelled MB.IP.FSP1.8070.
4.1.15.
Install one 12 core multimode (50/125m) cable from the DIAMETER MB cabinet
to FSP 2. The fibre cable will be labelled. MB.IP.FSP2.8070
4.1.16.
All cables terminated in the DIAMETER MB panel will be spliced onto the 3M
patch panels supplied in the cabinet.
4.1.17.
The fibre optic cable shall be glanded on the outer sheath using a compression
gland where it enters the FSP cabinets.
FROM DIAMETER MC
4.1.18.
Install one 12 core multimode (50/125m) cable from the DIAMETER MC cabinet
to FSP 1. The fibre cable will be labelled MC.IP.FSP1.8070.
4.1.19.
Install one 12 core multimode (50/125m) cable from the DIAMETER MC cabinet
to FSP 2. The fibre cable will be labelled MC.IP.FSP2.8070.
4.1.20.
All cables terminated in the DIAMETER MC panel will be spliced onto the 3M
patch panels supplied in the cabinet.
4.1.21.
The fibre optic cable shall be glanded on the outer sheath using a compression
gland where it enters the FSP cabinets.
Install one 12 core multimode (50/125m) cable from D400 cabinet to the FSP1
cabinet. The fibre cable will be labelled D400.FSP1.8070
4.1.23.
Install one 12 core multimode (50/125m) cable from D400 cabinet to FSP 2
cabinet. The fibre cable will be labelled D400.FSP2.8070.
4.1.24.
All cables terminated in the D400 panel will be spliced onto the patch panels in the
cabinet.
4.1.25.
4.1.26.
The fibre optic cable shall be glanded on the outer sheath using a compression
gland where it enters the FSP cabinets.
Install one 12 core multimode (50/125m) cable from the D20 cabinet to FSP 1.
The fibre cable will be labelled D20.FSP1.8070
4.1.28.
Install one 12 core multimode (50/125m) cable from the D20 cabinet to FSP 2.
The fibre cable will be labelled D20.FSP2.8070
4.1.29.
All cables terminated in the D20 panel will be spliced onto the patch panels in the
cabinet.
4.1.30.
4.1.31.
The fibre optic cable shall be glanded on the outer sheath using a compression
gland where it enters the FSP cabinets.
One 12 core multimode (50/125m) cable to be installed from FSP 1 to FSP 2 and
will be labelled FSP1.FSP2.8070
4.1.33.
The FSP cabinets will be supplied by Eskom and shall be installed by the
contractor as per their positions shown on the drawings mention in points 1.2.3 &
1.2. 4. See also Specification TSP41-665.
4.1.34.
All patch panels in FSP 1 and FSP 2 must be supplied by the contractor installing
the cables.
4.1.35.
Refer to the Fibre Optic Switching Panel 1 and 2 layout shown below
4.1.36.
The fibre optic cable shall be glanded on the outer sheath using a compression
gland where it enters the FSP cabinets.
4.1.38.
4.1.39.
All cables terminated in the FEEDER 1 LINE REACTOR panel will be spliced onto
the 3M patch panels supplied in the cabinet.
4.1.40.
The fibre optic cable shall be glanded on the outer sheath using a compression
gland where it enters the FSP cabinets.
4.1.42.
4.1.43.
All cables terminated in the BUSBAR REACTOR 1 panel will be spliced onto the
3M patch panels supplied in the cabinet.
4.1.44.
The fibre optic cables shall be glanded on the outer sheath using a compression
gland where it enters the FSP cabinets.

The fibre optic cable shall be glanded on the outer sheath using a compression
gland where it enters the FSP cabinets.
4.1.50.
A 3M patch box must be supplied and installed by the contractor at the HMI
workstation in order to terminate the fibre cable.
4.1.52.
A 3M patch box must be installed by the contractor at the EWS Panel in order to
terminate the fibre cable.
4.2 All Heavy Duty Duct cables must be installed in individual OPTEXTM., from Nextube, or a
Class 6 HDPE equivalent. Single length ducts must be installed for its full length in
accordance with Specification TSP41-115
4.4 At the control room, the HDPE pipe must extend into the building. Should the where
termination be required over a cable trench, then the HDPE pipe must be anchored to
the cable trench wall by 2U clamps. A two metre length of cable must be coiled within
the cabinet to allow for work to be performed on the ODF.
4.5 The cables must be numbered as detailed above and as shown on the attached sketch 1
below.
4.6 Colour coding shall be in accordance with Eskoms specifications TSP41-16 and TSP41665. The marker buffer shall always be red and the reference buffer shall always be
green.

5 CABLE TRAYS
5.1 A separate cable tray exclusively for fibre optic cabling needs to be installed about
500mm under the computer flooring within both the Control room and the Diameter
Marshalling Kiosk (DMK).
5.2 The contractor shall provide Eskom with a full technical specification of the cable trays to
be installed prior to the commencement of work.
6 GENERAL
6.1 All lengths of the fibre optic cables must be confirmed by the contractor.
6.2 All splicing must be done by the contractor.
6.3 The minimum bending radius of each cable as specified by the manufacturer shall be
maintained. See Installation standard TST41-115.
6.4 Care shall be taken to maintain the bending radius specification when guiding the duct
cable from the substation trench towards the control room floor. When entering the
control room floor, the top of the HDPE pipe shall be sealed with UV-resistant silicone
sealer or heat-shrink tubing.
6.5 The contractor shall provide Eskom with a full technical specification of the duct cable to
be installed prior to the commencement of work.
6.6 All patch panels to be supplied by the contractor. The contractor shall provide Eskom
with a full technical specification of the patch panels to be installed prior to the
commencement of work. Refer to TSP41-586. Refer to the Panel layout drawings shown
below for the patch panel quantities and positions.
6.7 All
installations
must
be
in
accordance
with
Eskoms
specifications.
7 TESTING
7.1
All splices must be tested in accordance with the latest revision of Eskom Fibre
Acceptance Test Procedure TPC41-5, Class B.
7.2
The contractor must submit a list of test gear available together with their current
calibration test certificates.
7.3
The Contractor must make his this test gear available on site for acceptance testing.
7.4
All fibre optic cable splicing and connections to be quality/acceptance tested by Eskom
Transmission.
8 DOCUMENTATION
The following documentation shall be given to Eskom and approved by Eskom on completion
of this work. Installation Standard TST41-115 refers.

Test results as per the Fibre Optic cable System Acceptance Testing Procedure TPC415, Class B.
Updated drawings showing the cable routing through the yard and to the Station.
Updated drawings showing the cable tray routing within the DMK and within the control
room.
Full technical specification of all duct cables installed.
9 SAFETY
The safety and environmental requirements shall be adhered to in accordance with the
Installation Standard TST41-115.
10 QUALITY CONTROL
The contractor shall have a quality management system based on SABS ISO 9001, and
effectively implemented product/process quality plans.
The successful Contractor must complete the Operating Regulations for High Voltage
Systems (HV Regulations) Course, and must be assessed and approved by the Grid
or Grids where the work is to be performed otherwise he must work under the
supervision of a responsible person on site, who has been authorised.
