Course Descriptions
02455452 Focus Electronic Engineering (18 ECTS)
Application of microprocessor systems in embedded systems: Realization of a software project,
writing of a specification sheet, debug methods, application of a real-time operating system,
integration of a communication stack, approach to find solutions of mechatronic tasks. Based on
these topics follows the implementation of a control software for a DC - motor. Design and
prototype realization of circuits parts for driving and controlling a DC - motor: PWM generator, full
bridge circuit, measurement circuit for measuring current and elongation, power supply circuit,
PCB layout of mixed - signal systems and fabrication using SMD technology.
Requirements Engineering: System and System Context, Requirement Elicitation, Requirements
Documentation, checking and reconciling requirements.

02455323 Computer Applications (2 ECTS)

After the introduction to fundamentals of computer networks and their protocols this class
focuses on the typical applications for network-wide applications as well as typical services, and
the necessary interfaces between heterogeneous systems with the accompanying data
communication formats. Examples of computer applications in production environments will
complete the overview. In addition this class treats the design of systems and the special
features of operating systems for real-time systems.
02455441 Engineering Design / CAD (3 ECTS)
Proceeding from the fundamentals of technical systems, this class treats the basic rules of design
(simple, clear and secure), design principles (transmission of force, task splitting with similar and
different functions, self-help, stability and bi-stability, error-free design) and design guidelines
(expansion, creeping and relaxation, corrosion, ergonomics, forming, production, assembly,
norms, maintenance, recycling etc.).
02455513 Robotics and Assembly Technologies (3 ECTS)
Mechanical, electrical and mathematical fundamentals of robotics (position in space,
transformation mathematics, description of orientation in space), and robotic applications (fields
of application and programming of robots). Fundamentals of assembly and of assembly systems,
concepts of flexible manufacturing and control of flexible manufacturing systems, CIM (computer
integrated manufacturing) - all topics in connection with robotics. Pneumatics. Industrial image
processing / machine vision (components, methods and fields of application).
02455721 Production Management (2 ECTS)
The main intention of this course is the knowledge transfer of the fundamentals of logistics from a
mainly economic point of view. As the course progresses the cycle of a product from the sourcing
of raw materials and components, production, company internal material flow and external
distribution as well as the reverse logistics at the end of the products lifecycle will be will be
discussed and explained. On the basis of this outline fundamental terms and principles will be
taught. The focus of the course is placed on production management with incorporation of Lean
Management principals.
02455822 Critical Thinking (2 ECTS)
The focus of this course is to introduce different aspects and approaches to critical thinking, and
apply them to situations in working life. Students will learn new techniques and further develop
existing thought processes to critically analyse work.
