Mastercam 2017 Transition Guide Transition to Mastercam 2017

TRANSITION TO MASTERCAM 2017

This guide is designed to help you update your Mastercam files for use in Mastercam 2017. A standard installation to the default locations is assumed. If you need
assistance with a non-standard installation, you should contact your local Mastercam Reseller. Use the information included here to automatically migrate the
majority of your files, manually copy any files not included automatically, and to
get up and running with the latest version of Mastercam.

Mastercam 2017 Transition Guide Before You Begin

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Mastercam 2017 includes a powerful, yet straightforward Migration Wizard. The
Migration Wizard has two options you can choose from: Basic or Advanced. For
Basic, you select and set the target directories and the destination location to
update the majority of your files to the current version. For Advanced, you choose
what file types and version types to migrate in addition to selecting and setting
the target directories and destination location. Some of the files migrated by this
wizard are:
l Part files
l Defaults files
l Operation and tool libraries
l Control definitions
l Machine definitions

Many factors affect the Migration Wizards processing time. The most significant
of these is the number of part files you have stored in your personal (..\my
mcamx9) and shared (..\shared mcamx9) directories. You may choose to relocate your part files to shorten the migration process.

Before running the Migration Wizard, be aware of the following:
l NC and NCI files are not migrated.
l If files have not changed from the originally distributed versions, then

they will not be updated to the latest version.

If the Migration Wizard encounters any errors, it halts the process until you take
appropriate action.

HANDLING REMAINING FILES

Certain files are not migrated through the wizard and must be manually copied
into the Mastercam 2017 structure. These include files that are outside of the
default installation locations, as well as the following:

Machine Simulation Files

Machine Simulation files are located in your ..\shared mcamx9 \MachineSimulation\MachSim folder. If you have created any custom machines or layouts,
you should bring them into Mastercam 2017. Simply copy the contents of the
MachSim folder, including all sub-folders and files, into your ..\shared
Mcam2017\MachineSimulation\MachSim folder.

CIMCO Machine Files

If you are running or logged in as an administrator, CIMCO Machine files are located under your ..\Program Files\mcamX9\common\Editors
\CIMCOEdit7\Machines folder. In order to copy files into your Mastercam 2017
installation you must be logged in as an administrator. Copy all of the files with a
.mch extension from the X9 location to the Mastercam 2017 location as shown
below:
..\Program Files\mcam2017\common\Editors \CIMCOEdit7\Machines
Note: If you are not running or logged in as an administrator, CIMCO Machine
files are located under your C:\Users\<username>\AppData folder. The exact
location and folder structure may vary, and AppData may be a hidden folder.

Mastercam 2017 using the following procedure.
1. Copy your mastercam.kmp file located in your ..\Documents\my
mcamx9\CONFIG into your ..\Documents\my mcam2017\ CONFIG
folder.
2. Open Mastercam 2017 and click File, Options.
3. On the Quick Access Toolbar page, click Customize next to Keyboard shortcuts.

4. In the Customize Keyboard dialog box, click Reset All. Your custom key mapping file will overwrite the Mastercam 2017 key mapping file.

Miscellaneous Files
Miscellaneous files include:
l Graphics files (JPG, BMP, etc.)
l NC and NCI files
l Native format files from other applications (DWG, STL, etc.)

Copy these file types from their location in the X9 structure to a corresponding location within the Mastercam 2017 structure. They do not need to run through any
kind of update process.

Use the Migration Wizard to update files in non-standard locations without changing their location. Select File, Convert, and then click Migration Wizard. Choose
Advanced to see which file types are supported. On the File Locations page,
select Use source folder as destination folder.
This should complete your transition to the latest version of Mastercam. Launch

Mastercam 2017 Transition Guide If You Need More Help

Use Mastercams Zip2Go utility to gather Mastercam part data into a compressed
Z2G or ZIP file. This utility makes it easy to provide your Mastercam Reseller or
CNC Support Services with a file attachment that contains the information they
need. Zip2Go scans the machine groups in your current part file and captures
information such as your Mastercam configuration, machine definition, and post
files. For more information on using Zip2Go, please refer to the Mastercam Help.
