DOWNSIDE OF MAKE IN INDIA

1.

REQUIREMENT OF CAPITAL INVESTMENT: The foremost requirement is the capital

investment in the establishment of the new industries and providing the necessary
infrastructure and utilities for the employees. India has a myriad of infrastructural
bottlenecks and to overcome these it needs to invest about 1trillion dollar during 12th
five year plan. Generating such a huge capital will be a daunting task. This would
definitely seek for the foreign investment and we would be indirectly under the holds of
foreign companies. Just a loophole and we would always be walking on the rope with the
fear of falling into slavery age.

2.

TRAINING OF THE EMPLOYEES: Manufacturing sector demands highly skilled labour

whereas India lacks highly skilled labour force. The making process definitely requires
the skill within the employees and labour force and that would call for an extensive
training. This skill and training procedure again demands some monetary requirement.

3.

LACK OF INFRASTRUCTURE: India along with poor infrastructure lacks a proper

logistical network for the supply chain of components and materials required in
manufacturing industries

4.

THREAT TO ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION: Our nation is thickly populated and the

industrial set-up would definitely cause environmental pollution which will indirectly
affect the health of the citizens in the surrounding residential areas. We should not land
up in the trench of diseases in the greed of making money and developing our economy.
If we lose health, then it would obviously affect our productivity and net output.

5.

LOSS OF AGRICULTURAL LAND: To start making in India, we obviously need

infrastructure in India. So there is a chance that we need to give productive lands to
establishment of companies. when we give land to industries, we will leave with less
land and less farm production leading to food crisis.

6.

DEFORESTATION: We have to cut down trees, to establish factories. If we cut down

trees and start making products (chemicals, fertilizers, etc..etc..) they will damage
environment.

7.

WATER CRISIS: Factories need gallons of water for its day to day functioning, so we
might land up in water crisis in future.

8.

URBANIZATION: Villages or towns will start becoming more densely populated

(wherever a company established), or already developed cities will see burgeoning influx
of population from remote areas. Ex: Delhi, Bangalore

9.

LAND ACQUISITION: For establishing manufacturing industries land acquisition will

prove to be a tedious task for successful unfolding of this campaign.

10.

UNCERTAINTY IN TAX REGIME: It is also a matter of concern for industries.

11.

COMPLEX PROCESSES: Complex processes have proved to be hurdles in

getting procedural and regulatory clearances especially for new entrepreneurs. This also
reflects in World Banks Ease of Doing Business report which ranked India at 134 out
of 189 countries in 2013.
