What is Eco-wood ?
In an attempt to preserving our ecology and
natural resources every small step would be a
leap towards a greener earth. 'Eco-Wood', is
a name given to the Wood-Plastic
Compounds. These compounds go a long
way in replacing timber. Eco-wood is also
called by various other names like poly-wood
or wood-plastic composites.
Amongst all the other names that are used to
refer to this product, Eco-Wood looks most
appropriate. It has all the qualities of timber
but in addition it also has some built-in manmade advantages.
It's a product whose time has come. A product
of the future made available, today
Its production is increasing and newer uses
are being discovered, almost with every
passing day.
The answer to preserving forests and thus
ecology, environment and atmosphere is Ecowood.

TERRA LINE

Eco-wood
is a material produced by
combining plastic resins such as PP, PE,
PVC, ABS, and waste plastics or other
recyclable polymers with natural fibres like
rice husk, wheat straws, cornstalk, wood saw
dust, coconut shell fibers, bagasse,
groundnut shell etc., essentially the waste
fibers up to 50-60%.
Versatility:
Once ready it become extremely versatile for
usage. It can be used in Extrusion / moulding
of natural fibres with waste plastic materials
with the help of adapted production
equipment (mixers & extruders) give very
attractive, useful and easy-to-work -with
material

special finishes and colours during the
production process itself. Unlike natural
wood, eco-wood avoids many mechanical

However care must be taken in manufacturing
because eco-wood is sensitive to the quality of raw
materials used. Moisture content, grit size, dust
content etc have an impact on the quality of the end
product(s).

Technical processing of products

Working with Eco-Wood :

Working with and on the Eco-wood is as simple and
easy as working with natural wood. Sawing, cutting,
nailing, screwing, drilling, planing, turning, shaping,
machining with the standard wood tools and
machines and skills can be done.

General Properties :
Eco-wood has the same look and feel as that
of natural wood, but in addition it also has
other beneficial properties like resistance to
water, moth, insects, termites, pollution,
corrosion, fungus etc. Under normal conditions it
can with-stand temperature ranging between -20
and +80 deg.C . Even this temperature
endurance can be enhanced with special
additives and use of specific polymers.
Eco-wood does not require the use of glues
and other hazardous & flammable
compounds which makes it still more ecofriendly.

Eco-wood itself can be given non-flammable

properties by the addition of appropriate
substances . Co-extruded products from ecowood can be given special layers for special
finishes and properties like resistance to
water, fire, electrical insulation to name a few.

produced annually, and the demand is expected to
grow at over 30%. As of now it is the US and Canada
where this technology has been adopted and
exploited. However, Asia and India too hold great
potential in the coming years.
