just in case
For our 9:45 Genesis worshipers who are getting to know
the Sanctuary: the best way to reach restrooms during the
service is to go to the Narthex (entry doors for the Sanctuary on Church Street). There is one restroom available
in the Narthex, and more in Allen Hall, adjacent to our
Sanctuary; our ushers can direct you. We ask you enter and
exit through the back of the room to minimize distractions
in worship.

recycle your bulletin

8:15am & 9:45am worshipers can help the church be better
stewards of our resources and environment. If you do not
want to keep this extremely handy bulletin, just hand it to
one of our ushers as you leave. The bulletins are reused
for the 11:00am worship service, and recycled on Monday
morning.

NOTES

TRADITIONAL

The sermon series this summer has focused on the

Psalms, which have been a part of worship for over
3,000 years. In fact, the oldest of the psalms, Psalm
90, was written by Moses some 1,400 years before
Christ. The Psalter is made up of five books, or
collections, of psalms (1-41; 42-72;73-89; 90-106; and
107-150). From the beginning, reading Gods word in
worship has been an essential act among Gods people.
Documents from the early days of the Church state
clearly the regular practice of reading Scripture aloud
in worship. The Psalms were often read responsively.
You may have noticed that very often in addition to
the pericope selection for the sermon, additional
Scripture is read in our worship services. We seek
to choose a complementary portion, often from the
other Testament than that of the sermon passage. The
Psalter is particularly useful due to its wide breadth
of material and emotional content. The Psalms are
filled with praise, lament, confession, questions,
depression, anger, hope, faith, and passionate prayer.
In short, they express life and part of what happens in
worship is to bring us in touch with the reality of life
from Gods perspective. Listen for Gods voice in the
Scriptures today.
