Reflective Assignment
Political science 1100 has been an amazing class and has taught me a
lot about the government and all the things that work together into the
government. It has given me the ability to identify and describe political
issues within the state and/or country. I have learned about why a lot of
these political issues arise and what effects these issues have not only on
others but on myself as well. I have learned how to interview and analyze the
government on a deeper level, to where I can develop political questions.
Political science also gave me the ability to evaluate how well
individuals, groups, and institutions understand and resolve not only political
but social issues. I have been given the ability to practice arguing about
certain issues in class and taking my opinions on things into account on the
issue along with listening to my peers opinions and evaluating the issue
which gave me more information through their opinions. Throughout this
class I made a lot of friends that had the same outlook on issues as me, as
well as made friends that had different outlooks on issues. I was able to

address social problems through political means, such as developing political
campaigns, and shaping public opinions through arguments we had in class.
I have learned that opinions I have can be taken into account with
other people but seen as different. I learned a lot through my previous
general education courses and was able to apply it into this course. For
example, in my psychology 1100 class I learned about how the brain works
and how it works to make decisions and develop ideas and through this class
I was able to develop factual evidence on medical issues we had arguments
about. I was able to give my input on issues through my broad experience of
classes and being able to have knowledge on issues because of how many
classes I have taken through general education.
I have been able to make a lot of connections between what I learned
in this course and through my own personal experience and assumptions I
have made. We discussed a lot about different presidents and how their
political campaigns worked and was able to put forth my opinion on the issue
from past assumptions and knowledge I have developed. For example,
talking about President Obama and his presidency was easy for me to talk
about because of the knowledge I gained through personal conversations
with friends and family which helped me make conversations in class with
my peers.
