PROFILE Installation Instructions

This section describes the installation procedure for PROFILE.

Depending on whether PROFILE 32 (32-bit
version) or PROFILE (16-bit version) has
been installed on your system before, the
installation procedure is slightly different
(please read carefully before proceeding).
The PROFILE install incorporates most of the 16-bit DFW/PROFILE
install functionality with some enhancements and differences as
described below. This means that most steps should be familiar to those
who have installed the 16-bit application. An Access 2.0-to-Access 7.0
database update utility is available as a separate install on the Drilling
2000 CD (Volume 2, p/n 158245-A) released April 2000.
There are two selections for PROFILE installations:

Standalone or Network Server

This installation will copy the PROFILE software and all required
support files to the designated directory on the local PC's hard disk
or the Network Server. If the installation is on the Network Server
these files must be accessible to the Network Client computer.
Network Client
This installation will copy only required system files to the local
PC's hard disk and create shortcuts to the application executable
files on the Network Server. In order to do the network node
installation, PROFILE must be installed in an accessible network
directory.
PROFILE will not overwrite the symbol file
(Prof32.sym) if it exists in the installed directory
unless the user selects to overwrite from the dialog
box that appears during the installation. The same is
true for bitmap files.

PROFILE 2003.0 Installation Guide

Installing .INI Files and Defaulting Folders

When installing PROFILE, the default installation folder is
C:\Landmark\DWS\PROFILE. The default folder can be used or a
different folder may be entered if required.
PROFILE should be installed in a separate directory from DIMS for
maintenance purposes, but if required, PROFILE can be installed in the
same directory as DIMS. There are no adverse effects on application
performance, but there are implications. Many clients contain a
'bitmaps' sub-directory in the DIMS install directory. This folder is used
to store Launch Bar and/or Report Header bitmap files. PROFILE
requires use of a bitmaps sub-directory typically called 'bmp'. These
two directories can be merged to manage their contents. This choice
must be determined at the time of the installation, as the bitmap
directories will be defined within the DIMS32.INI and PROF32.INI
files.
The PROFILE installation automatically follows any one of three
different installations algorithms - Fresh Install, Upgrade, or Reinstall.
The installation performed is based on whether a PROFILE3.INI or
PROF32.INI file is present in the Windows directory and the
PROFILE3.EXE or PROF32.EXE in the install directory. The
installation used is determined based on the following criteria:

R2003.0

Fresh Install
For this install, no PROFILE3.INI or PROF32.INI is present in the
Windows directory, and therefore, it is not necessary to check for
the executable. Generic versions of the application's .INI files are
copied and folder information is updated based on the user
specified installation directories. The target folders default to a
root directory of C:\Landmark\DWS\PROF32.
Upgrade
For this install, the PROFILE3.INI file is found in the Windows
directory, but no PROF32.INI file is present. A PROFILE3.EXE
file is also found in the install directory specified in
PROFILE3.INI. 16-bit .INI files are replaced by their 32-bit
equivalents. All original settings are left untouched except for
folder information that is updated based on user-entered values.
The target folders default to a root of
C:\Landmark\DWS\PROFILE.
Re-install
For this install, the PROF32.INI is found in the Windows
directory. PROF32.EXE is also found in the install directory listed

Installing .INI Files and Defaulting Folders: PROFILE Installation Instructions

PROFILE 2003.0 Installation Guide

Landmark Graphics

in the PROF32.INI file. All settings are retained in PROF32.INI

unless changes are made during the installation. The target folders
will default to the folder information in the existing 32-bit .INI
files.
The 16-bit .INI file used with its equivalent 32-bit .INI file in as
follows:

PROFILE32.ini = Prof32.ini

these files must be accessible to the Network Client computer.
Network Client
This installation will copy only required system files to the local
PC's hard disk and create shortcuts to the application executable
files on the Network Server. In order to do the network node
installation, PROFILE must be installed in an accessible network
directory.

Network Client installations are recommended for

network environments where the PROFILE
executables and configurations are shared and where a
multi-user floating license scheme may be used.

ODBC database drivers. The installation checks for the presence
of Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC). If MDAC is
already installed, the checkbox will default to deselected and does
not need to be installed again.
Configure 32-bit ODBC Data Sources - This checkbox instructs
the install to create four DIMS ODBC data sources and establishes
the field pointers in the .INI files so that the databases can be
accessed.

13. Specify the location for a LAM (License Application Manager)

folder. FLEXlm is a licensing method common to all Landmark
products. It provides a single, common licensing system that
integrates across PC and Unix network environments. It requires a
specific folder to store the license file.
LAM is used by multiple Landmark Drilling and Well
Services applications, therefore it is not advisable to
install LAM within the PROFILE install directory
hierarchy. If desired, you can use an UNC path to
specify the location of the LAM client directory.

Important!
End users must have Read access to the Licensing
folder.
