Rock Night 2 (the return)

The title sounds a bit like a movie, this was very

animated, especially when Status Duo cajoled three
ladies into an air guitar competition, handing them
inflatable guitars, Helen Swain (rock chick
extraordinaire) appeared to be lead Guitar with the others following. The night was opened by
Perfect Heathens with Pete Severn (the organiser) on bass, this was their first gig, they were
followed by Status Duo, the Status Quo tribute act featuring Stephen Clements and the evening
was rounded off by Acoustica the up and coming acoustic rock band. It was a good night, very
loud for the size of venue, but enjoyable nonetheless.

New Dogs on the Block

Say hello to Bracken. If you see him out with Jane or Harrison you may
wonder why they do not simply put a saddle on his back. A lovely boy. Nick,
Jane and Harrison love him.
Billy the epitome of cute.
A cockerpoo who is busy not only
changing life for Debbie and Mike but
also trying to discipline The
Magnificent Moggies Pixie and
Buttons. (My Money is on the cats)

Feargal the rumbustious, Rumanian cross

sheepdog. He likes gardening if it involves
indiscriminately pulling things out, rolling on
flowers and chewing up pots! He was found in
the back yard of a hospital in Torda,
Transylvania. He was less than a year old and
like many dogs out there, he was in a dreadful
state. He would have died if they had not found
room for him at the shelter. They nursed him
back to health and their policy is to neuter the
animals to stop indiscriminate breeding. A
couple in Market Rasen adopted him, but unfortunately, they could not manage him. He was
returned to our local Half Way House Rescue, where we found him. Despite the terrible start to his
life, he seems to be a trusting, kind soul, albeit rather bouncy. He has a wonderful kind nature and
really wants Rosie to love him. She puts him in his place constantly! We hope we can give him the
best home here.
Im rooting for Feargal well done Kate and Ollie another special dog in a South Scarle home.
More please we live a village with almost as many dogs as humans if you add in the cats and horses
were outnumbered so lets share why we live here and love our animals. The editor.

Extra Poo
Please read this, as it is an unprecedented whinge from your editor. At least the majority of
us love dogs and clean up after our dogs when we take them out but we have a Poo problem. It
would seem that not every one understands that it is not just the roads near houses that need to be
Poo picked. In the last fortnight I have cleaned up after other peoples dogs along Plot Lane (both
North and South) almost every day and have to confess to being more than a smidgen irritated by
this.
I need your help! I walk my mutts very early and am unlikely to find anyone out with their dog let
alone a person (possibly not a villager) not cleaning up. So I need a team of Poo Vigilantes.
Please Challenge people you see not cleaning up or if you are not happy to do that let me know
and I will talk to them if they are Scarlians (which I doubt) or challenge incomers with the legality of
their behaviour. Poo in the gateway to our cemetery is both demeaning and upsetting to those
visiting graves of their loved ones. We need to sort this. Mo

Street A modern fable.

Picture an ordinary street in a bland little town. A mixture of housing Victorian terraces, Edwardian Merchants
homes, Post War Semis and some more modern houses and in the middle an empty plot belonging to an
ancient aristocrat. On the street lived all sorts of people. They did not all like each other or get on but there was
an atmosphere of tolerance and neighbourliness that made the place special.
The people who lived on the street decided that they needed a place to socialise so someone talked to the
aristocrat and he agreed to let them use the plot for a peppercorn rent providing they took responsibility for its
upkeep. A frantic fundraising phase followed and in the end this very ordinary street had a rather special hut
and a small childrens playground. The street had fun! They mixed and celebrated BUT on the street lived a
bad fairy and he found all this goodwill was beginning to make him feel really sick. So he made a plan.
In one ear he whispered dont those cooking smells from next door really disgust you? In another he said,
Those children make a lot of noise dont you find it irritating? People started to mutter. The Folks at 28
stopped talking to the people who lived in 26 and 30 because they felt victimized. The parents in 15 got more
than a little aggressive in defence of their childrens right to play and a small turf war erupted. Then the bad
fairy played his ace! One of the bigger houses was being converted into flats. So he said recovering drug
addicts in one ear, homeless on benefits in another and asylum seekers in several more and the street
exploded.
Quiet and unobserved a wise woman also lived on the street. She suggested a meeting, so many people
gathered in the hut. Opinions were aired, things got rather heated and then the wise woman got to her feet.
People were shocked; she rarely said anything so the hut hushed.
I have seen the future she said, The tolerance and neighbourliness is draining from the street like a spring
ebb tide. If we do nothing this is what will happen. Our hut will shut with a rusting padlock on the door because
we cannot agree how to use it. We will build bigger fences and let our hedges grow tall and stop talking to each
other. Then one of our older people will die and no one will notice until someone complains to the authorities
about the smell. We should not try to prescribe how another chooses to live, unless they are causing harm, but
what happens next is your choice. The wise woman sat down.
