Any Trump Fans Here?

If Western Universitys campus ever held any Donald Trump fans, theyre likely quieter
now following the Republican presidential candidates Dec. 7th suggestion of refusing Muslims
entry into the United States.
I think we need to ignore him and let him become less relevant, said Vanessa Rapagna,
a third-year bio archaeological anthropology student. There is no way a bill like that could be
passed.
Known increasingly for his bigoted and discriminatory opinions, Trump seems to garner
a lot of support in the States.
I feel like the U.S. runs on a giant culture of fear and that needs to change, Rapagna
said. Canada might be heading in the same direction. I feel like with Trudeau we will be in a
better place, though.
Fourth-year English and creative writing student Emma Cuneo agreed with Rapagnas
opinion that the U.S. (and most of Trumps supporters) are largely driven by fear.
As for our own country, though, Trump would not gain the power he did, claims
Cuneo. Hate speech is illegal in Canada- but not in the States. Spouting racist ideologies that are
factually incorrect is a crime in Canada, and would be treated as such.
Trump continues to be supported in America as he expresses his opinions, despite
backlash throughout the globe.
Donald Trumps comments about Muslims are at best ignorant and at worst going to cost
innocent Muslims their lives, said Cuneo. There is a saying going around that if you replace

the group youre talking about with Jew and you sound like a Nazi, then you are probably a
racist. I think Donald Trump is a good example of this.
What scares me is not that this powerful billionaire is so bigoted and set in his ways, but
that he keeps changing the story when convenient and convinces others to follow him in a spiral
of racism under the name of security.
