- 100 million people from India are projected to join the global workforce by 2020, which could make India one of the world's most prolific talent providers given its young population and expected workforce size.
- However, for India to achieve high economic growth rates and attract global talent, it needs to massively invest in developing human capital and addressing skill gaps, as currently only 12% of workers are skilled and many lack soft skills.
- India risks turning its demographic dividend into a nightmare unless it promptly reforms its skill management and training system to develop more skilled workers who are attractive to future employers.

100 million people from India are projected to join the global
workforce by 2020. With half its population under 25 and a
national workforce that is expected to account for 25% of the global workforce in 2020, India has a great chance of becoming one of the worlds most prolific talent providers. But the question for India is whether it can become an attractive destination for talent. In order for India to achieve and sustain this, a 9% growth rate in the next decade it must for which India will have to massively invest in human capital development. Indias expected demographic dividend could rapidly turn out to be demographic nightmare unless the country promptly addresses the many structural and systemic problems in skill management and training system. In India, today out of the roughly 509 million workers currently employed, only 12% are skilled and even the so-called skilled workers lack the soft skills like communication skills that would make them attractive to future employers.
Innovation involves two stagesthe generation of new ideas and
the implementation of the ideas. Creativity is considered to be the first stage of innovation.
Key elements which contribute to innovation are:
A compelling vision. Teams are more innovative when members have a common understanding of team objectives and are also committed to them. Clear and valued objectives do create meaning and motivation for team members. Goal Interdependence. Goal interdependence is the extent to which team members can meet their goals only by having
the other team members achieve their goals. Goal
interdependence leads team members to act toward each other in a way that creates mutual benefit. You create goal interdependence by setting objectives that must be achieved collectively and by addressing issues, including feedback, as a team. Support for Innovation. Teams are more innovative when managers expect and approve of innovation, support members when their attempts to innovate are not successful, and recognize and reward new ideas and their implementation. This means encouraging risk and expecting failures. A task orientation. This is a shared concern for excellence that stems from the compelling vision. Teams with a task orientation set high performance standards, monitor their performance and provide each other feedback. A cohesive team. Cohesion represents commitment to the team and a desire to be part of the team. Researchers see cohesion as creating a psychologically safe environment that enables members to challenge each other and the status quo. Strong internal and external communication. Strong internal communication between team members allows for sharing knowledge and ideas, and creates a safe environment for providing feedback. External communication (communication with those outside the team) fosters innovation by learning from others and bringing new information into the team.
