Equine ER explores the power of the human-horse connection, through the lens of the esteemed Rood and
Riddle Veterinary Hospital, located in the horse-crazy Bluegrass, birthplace of greats like Man o’ War. At the
hospital, a core of dedicated doctors perform cutting-edge medicine on their four-footed patients, whether
it is an experimental drug on a mare dying of pleural pneumonia, or brain surgery on a foal kicked in the head.
The book follows the emotional journeys that doctors and owners embark on when a beloved horse becomes ill.

Horse Lover’s Guide to Kentucky is the ultimate tour of the equine capital of the world.
Veteran travel writer Patti Nickell explores the cultural and historical importance of the
horse to the commonwealth and shares with visitors and residents the best places to
get up close and personal with horses. Horse Lover’s Guide to Kentucky takes readers
inside the most famous farms of the Bluegrass, visits its historic racetracks, and provides
information on a host of equine-related attractions. The guide also recommends unique
places to stay and to dine. While horses are the main focus of the book, it is also a road-
map to the state itself — its history, fascinating characters — past and present — and
the most intriguing places it has to offer — both equine and non-equine related.
