Important Note:
This pa=ern was created aCer my Dad requested an Animal
muppet mascot for Christmas and I couldnt quite nd the
perfect t. I have wri=en out these instruc;ons for anyone
who may want to try to make one too!
The trickiest part of this pa=ern, the head is thanks to Cabis
fantas;c adapta;on of djonesgirls Muppet Glasses Holder
I have copied Cabis Animal head here and can honestly say I
would never have managed to make this Animal without her
pa=ern!

Head Part 1

Head part 2
Posi%on the two white eyes,
pupils and round nose above
the mouth.

ONLY sew on the whites and
pupils once you decide where
they look best
Sew on

q Bo/om eyelids (orange yarn, below each eye):

Pick up s;tches below each eye, going corner to corner, and
sc each of these s;tches.
Make two rows above this row, decreasing s;tches at the
beginning and end of both rows.

Sew on the nose between the eyes; it will most likely cover
parts of the eyelids. Be sure to stu the nose before you
completely sew it on!

q Eyebrows (black yarn, make 2):

Row 1: ch 10
Row 2: . sc in next 2 ch; hdc in next ch; 2dc in next 4 ch; hdc in

(27)
q Row 10: ch 1, turn. [2 sc in next sc, sc in next 8 sc]
across (30)

Once youve created the

eyelids, sew on the nose and
eyebrows

Sew the two inside mouths

together to form a circle and
sew into head opening, stu
the head as you close up the
few nal s%tches.

Make another of the inside of the mouth.

For the second one, use the orange yarn for the rst 6 rows to
make the tongue before switching to the black yarn.

If you want, you can embroider a crease down the centre of

the tongue with the red yarn.

Hair & Eyebrows

Animals hair is mostly red with orange & pink highlights

around the eyes and eyebrows. I used variegated yarn.

There are two techniques that can be used to make your

Animals hair, knojng and crea;ng a yarn fringe.

Yarn fringes can be faster than individual knojng but I prefer

the eect of knojng. If you want to add yarn fringes, you can
learn how to make them at needlenoodles.com

Knojng is very simple if a bit long winded.

To make your hair you need to cut lengths of yarn that are
just over twice as long as you want the nished hair to be
Insert a crochet hook into the head where you want the
strand of hair to be
Fold a strand of yarn in half and pull a loop through
Pull the two ends of the yarn through the yarn and ;ghten
the knot so its secure
Repeat un;l the head is covered with hair and trim to length

Head part 3
details
Add hair and eyebrows
using either the yarn fringe
or knoHng technique.

Note that Animals hair
extends around his face as
well as on his head!

Detailed instruc;ons with photographs can be found at

Knit for Victory.

With the eyebrows I also then split the yarn to make them
crazy and curly as well and then trimmed them to length.

q Li/le teeth (white yarn, make 5):

Row 1: ch 2, 1 sc in the second chain from hook (1 s;tch)

Row 2: ch 1, turn. 2 sc in sc (2) sl st next s;tch and break yarn,
leaving a long tail to sew

q Big teeth (white yarn, make 2):

Row 1: ch 2, 1 sc in the second chain from hook (1 s;tch)

Row 2: ch 1, turn. 2 sc in sc (2)
Row 3: ch 1, turn. sc across (2)
Row 4: ch 1, turn. 2 sc in each sc (4) sl st next s;tch, nish o,
leaving a long tail to sew

Sew the teeth onto the

boKom lip with the two
larger ones on the ends.

Body, legs & feet

q Body (orange yarn)

In making the feet, make

the big toe as a
con%nua%on of the foot.

qRnd 1: magic ring with 6 sc (6 s;tches)

qRnd 2: [2 sc in each sc] around (12)
qRnd 3: [sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc] around (18)
qRnd 4: [sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc] around (24)
qRnd 5: [sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc] around (30)
qRnds 6 46: sc in each sc around (30)
qRnd 47: sc in next 3 sc, dec over 2 sc around (24)
qRnd 48: sc in next 2 sc, dec over 2 sc around (18)
qRnd 49: sc in next sc, dec over 2 sc around (12)
qRnd 50: dec over 2 sc around, sl st in next st, nish o,
leaving a long tail for sewing. (6)
qFinish: whips;tch through remaining sc and pull ;ght to
close hole.

q Legs (orange yarn, make 2):

qRnd 1: magic ring with 6 sc (6 s;tches)

qRnd 2: [2 sc in each sc] around (12)

qRnd 74: sc in next sc, dec over 2 sc around (12)
qRnd 75: dec over 2 sc around, sl st in next st, nish o,
leaving a long tail for sewing. (6)

Making the three li/le toes (repeat three ;mes per foot
following diagram)
q Rnd 12a: Pick up X 1, chain 1, sc in X 2, X 3 and X 4 (4)
q Rnd 13a: sc around (4)

Increasing to make the hands

q Rnd 76: [sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc] around (18)
q Rnd 77: [ sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc] around (24)

At this point stu the hand, shaping to accentuate the

increase

Making the two remaining ngers (repeat twice per hand

following diagram)
q Rnd 81a: Pick up X 1, chain 1, sc in X 2, X 3, X 4, X 5 and
X 6 (6)
q Rnd 82a 86a: sc around (6)
q Rnd 87a: dec over 2 sc around, sl st in next st, nish o

Making the thumb

q Rnd 78a: Pick up X 1, chain 1, sc in X 2, X 3, X 4, X 5 and
X 6 (6)
q Rnd 79a 81a: sc around (6)
q Rnd 82a: dec over 2 sc around, sl st in next st, nish o

Sew in the tails of the ngers and thumb, patching up any

gaps leP between s%tches the ngers and thumbs do not
need to be stued.
