Introduction and Pre-Installation Summary

The purpose of this section is to provide general and introductory information for the Ultra Hit
Progressive (UHP) Bank-Level System, Figure A-1. UHP is a mystery triggered portal bonus and
LAP theme available in 30-line and 50-line configurations with $0.01 and $0.05 denominations.
Base games are configured with a minimum bet (forced minimum base bet plus an extra bet), so
any bet a player chooses makes them eligible for the portal. UHP features picking, free spins,
physics, and progressive elements.
UHP is available in two themes:

Information

This section provides general information about UHP.


Base games run at their standard supported lines with the following percentages: 66%, 68%, 70%,
73%, 75%, 77%, 80%, and 82%. These base game percentages are only to be used in conjunction
with UHP.
The operator can choose the base game percentage and the UHP percentage (8%, 10%, and 12%).
NOTE: Some jurisdictions require a minimum total percentage, and a certain UHP percentage may
be forced to meet the requirement.
The more players play, the closer Jackpot Explosion or Biggy Bankin is to triggering. This is
indicated visually in the following ways:
Jackpot Explosion

In the base game, the volcano lava rises on the sides of the reels
On the top screen, the volcano lava rises inside the volcano
In the base game and on the top screen, the background screens change

When Jackpot Explosion or Piggy Bankin' triggers, 1 of the 4 progressive levels is randomly
awarded to one player. If the progressive is in the middle of being awarded and Jackpot Explosion
or Piggy Bankin' triggers again, the player receives both awards.

Introduction

The purpose of this chapter is to describe the installation and connection of the bank-level Bank
Controller (BC) 1.0 (A-029134-00-00) and Portal Controller (PC) 1.0 (A-029135-00-00) to a Power
Switch and a DHCP Network Switch (20-025428-00-00). The two controllers and switch reside in
the stage area of the banked system to connect the games to the system, Figure 1-1.

This section provides guidelines for preventing electrical injury and protecting components from
electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage.

ALWAYS power equipment OFF at the Power Switch.


Regardless of the type of procedure, set all Power Switches to OFF when servicing the game,
Top Box, or other equipment.

Preventing ESD

Unplug equipment from the outlet if not handling ESD-sensitive components.

Exercise caution when working around electrical equipment.

ALWAYS wear an ESD wrist strap.


Fasten a resistive type (1 or 10 Meg) ESD wrist strap on arm and ensure that it makes good skin
contact, Figure 2 (A). Secure the clip end of the wrist strap to a nearby ground point.
Suggested grounds points are:

An unpainted or bare exposed metal area of the game cabinet or equipment enclosure.

Any labeled ESD common ground point, Figure 2.

Ground equipment when handling ESD-sensitive components.


When accessing printed circuit boards (PCBs) or components in direct contact with PCBs,
including EPROMs, CompactFlash Cards, and PCB connectors, connect the three-prong
equipment line cord to a properly grounded outlet. Then, secure the clip end of the ESD wrist
strap to an unpainted or bare exposed metal area of the game cabinet or equipment enclosure.

Replacing/Repairing If the AC Line Cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer (WMS), its service agent,
AC Line Cord or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.
Properly Secure and Before performing any service tasks, the game (and Top/Accessory Box, if applicable) must be
Vent All Equipment properly secured as described in the Service Manual. All WMS cabinets and associated
equipment (including Top/Accessory Box, controllers, etc.) must be properly installed. Upright
games must be mounted to a stand using four bolts, and all stands must be bolted to the floor, a
wall, or secured back-to-back. Slant games must be installed back-to-back or back against a wall.
All WMS Upright and Slant cabinets require a minimum of 6 inches (15 cm) clearance on both
sides and at the rear to allow for proper ventilation. Failure to fully secure and vent games may
cause injury and equipment damage.

Complete the following steps to install the DHCP Network Switch (20-025427-00-00) in the right
stage cabinet.
1 Observe all appropriate safety and ESD precautions listed on Preventing Injury and Damage
on page 1-5.

1 Connect the CAT5 cable coming from the DHCP Network Switch to the eth0 ethernet port (the
port closest to the DVI port), Figure 1-11 (A).

2 Ensure that the power switch on BC 1.0 is turned to the ON position ( I ) before connecting the
Power Supply Cable, Figure 1-11 (B).
3 Connect the Power Supply Cable to the back of Bank Controller 1.0, Figure 1-11 (C).
4 Connect the Door Switch cable into its port on the back of BC 1.0, Figure 1-12.

5 Connect the DVI to VGA adaptor cable to the DVI port on the back of BC, Figure 1-12 (A).The
DVI port is directly under the Ethernet ports on the back of the BC.
This will facilitate starting up the controller using a game LCD.

6 Connect the black 9-foot-VGA cable to the VGA port on the DVI to VGA adaptor cable,
Figure 1-13.

7 Remove the door at the front of the enclosure that will house the Bank Controller.
8 Slide BC 1.0 into its bottom shelf of the stage, ensuring to guide the cables to the back end of
the stage, Figure 1-14.
NOTE: Be sure to install the Bank Controller and Portal Controller in the proper upright position, with
the reset switch (Bank Controller), Figure 1-14 (A), and keyhole (Portal Controller) at the bottom.
Failure to install the controllers in the correct position may cause them to malfunction.

Complete the following steps to install PC 1.0 (A-029135-00-00) into the top shelf of the Stage.
NOTE: To quickly differ en i ate between the PC 1.0 and BC 1.0, view the drives on the controller.
PC 1.0 has two DVD drives and the BC 1.0 has two CompactFlash drives. Or, locate the front of the
Controller, Figure 1-15 (A). The controller with the DVD drives (and no reset switch) is the PC 1.0 to
be installed in these steps.

1 Connect the DVI cable end to the bottom-most DVI connection on the back of PC 1.0,

2 Connect the two (2) USB cables into any of the USB ports on the back of PC 1.0,
Figure 1-17 (A).

Controller and EGM Installation and Configuration


Introduction

The purpose of this chapter is to detail the software installation and configuration of the PC 1.0, BC
1.0, and electronic gaming machines (EGMs).
The PC 1.0 gives casino operators the ability to quickly and easily manage their floor and enable
new gaming experiences for their players. The software networks all enabled slot cabinets. The PC
1.0 computer hosts the main applications, databases, and services. The software communicates
with the slot cabinets using an open, interoperable protocol called G2S.
Using the WMS Administrator, users can:

Make changes to the floor in real time or on a schedule

Configure peripheral devices on the gaming floor

Configure game denomination, maximum bet, paytable, volume, asset code, jurisdictional wait
times, language and limit options.

Enable or disable a slot cabinet.

A suite of reports on the PC 1.0 computer provide system configuration, slot floor configuration, and
metering information. Regulators can audit content and controlled files using the WMS Administrator
and a separate browser-based interface.
Refer to Figure 2-1 for an overview of a Network Gaming hardware configuration.

Only one UHP instance may be configured per each BC 1.0.

Connecting the
Controllers to
the BB2s

Complete the following steps to run the CAT5 cables from the controllers and the power cables to
the BB2s.
NOTE: Keep track which port on the DHCP Network Switch each CAT5 cable uses and connect in
left to right order in the bank ***what if a circle configuration is used?***. In other words, the CAT5
cable from port 1 goes to the left-most BB2; CAT5 cable from port 2 goes to the BB2 immediately to
the right, and so on. This will allow quick discovery and diagnosis if a game stops communicating
with the Network Switch.
1 Run all the CAT5 cables ***how?***, Figure 2-2.

2 Facing the front of the BB2, open the Main Door.


3 Run the cable through the base of the game and up to the CPU.

4 Connect the CAT5 cable from the controllers to the outer-most Ethernet connection port on the
CPU. This is port 0, Figure 2-5 (A).
5 Run the remaining CAT5 cables under the remaining games and through the cable access
holes at the base of the games.
6 Repeat step 2 through step 5 for all games in the bank.

Verify the BB2 For each game in the bank, verify that the main line cord from the game plugs into an
Connection to a Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS).

Configuring a
New System

Complete the steps in the following sections to configure the system:


NOTES:

Install, connect and load all BC 1.0 controllers with a valid operating system and the UHP
master game instance before configuring the remainder of the system.

Though most bank configurations consist of only four or six EGMs, be aware only one bank
may be configured at one time with a maximum of 16 EGMs on the bank. Attempts to
configure multiple banks or more EGMs may result in an adverse impact on system
performance.

Logging into BC 1.0 Complete the following steps to log into BC 1.0:
NOTE: These steps must be executed prior to turning the controllers on, while powering up the BB2
games.
1 Observe all appropriate safety and ESD precautions listed on Preventing Injury and Damage
on page 1-3.
2 ***Add steps for connecting to the BB2 LCD***

Obtaining the BC 1.0 Complete the following steps to obtain the BC 1.0 IP Address:

1 Verify that the BC is powered OFF.
1 Seat the RAM Clear CompactFlash card in the OS drive and power ON the BC.
NOTE: If, while booting up the Bank Controller during a RAM Clear, the screen displays an EFI
Boot prompt, it will be necessary to connect a keyboard to the Bank Controller, type EXIT and press
Enter on the keyboard. This will allow the RAM Clear to continue.
2 After the RAM clear is complete, power OFF the BC.
3 Remove the RAM Clear CompactFlash card and insert the game and OS CompactFlash cards
into the BC.
4 Close the logic door on the Bank Controller. If the door is open, the Bank Controller will not start
up.

5 After the BIOS screens, the Bank Controller will display a black screen with a blue bar that
indicates its IP address, Figure 2-4 (A). Make a note of the IP address, as it will be used later in
the setup of the controllers.

6 To prepare to connect the PC 1.0 to the LCD, remove the VGA connection from LCD and place
the cable next to the Bank Controller in the stage.

Logging into PC 1.0 Complete the following steps to log into PC 1.0:
NOTE: These steps must be executed prior to powering up the BB2s.
1 Observe all appropriate safety and ESD precautions listed on Preventing Injury and Damage
on page A-Notices and Tables.
2 Connect a keyboard and a mouse to the USB ports on top of the PC 1.0.
3 At some point, this step might be filled with spider port information. DD, 4.30.2011
4 ***Insert steps for how to view PC contents using a BB2 LCD here***
5 Power up the PC 1.0.
6 Log on to the PC 1.0 computer with the ssg_super_user username and associated password.
If the password was not given along with installation instructions, it can be retrieved by
contacting the WMS Product Support Group: 866.967.4457 or customersupport@wms.com.
NOTE: A user with domain administrator level privileges must create the SSG_Super_User group
and add it to the PC 1.0 Local Administrator group. Local Administrator privileges are required for
PC 1.0 installation.

Change the PC 1.0 Time


The clock on the PC 1.0 must be adjusted to reflect a time within five minutes of each EGM in the
bank. First set the PC time using the following procedure, and then ensure the EGM time is set to
the same time in Date/Time Setup on page 2-27.
1 Navigate to the clock toolbar at the bottom right hand corner of the screen and click Change
date and time settings..., Figure 2-5.

3 At the Date and Time Settings screen, adjust the date and time to appropriately reflect the
time, Figure 2-7 (A).

4 Click OK, Figure 2-7 (B).


5 When the Date and Time screen displays again, click Apply Figure 2-6 (A).
6 Power down the Controller.

6 Turn the Controller on. The startup sequence will display the screen in Figure 2-2 (A) followed
by the screen in Figure 2-2 (B).

7 Press the CTRL and G keys at the same time on the keyboard when the startup screen in
Figure 2-2 (B) displays. The screen will display the information in Figure 2-3.

9 A unique G2S Host ID will automatically populate in the G2S HostId field, Figure 2-6 (D). For

per jurisdiction requirements. This checkbox must be marked if the jurisdiction requires that
employee information be entered when any changes are made to the configuration.
11 Toggle the Primary Host button under the Host Type section if this computer is the primary
G2S host, Figure 2-6 (F). If this computer is not the primary G2S host, toggle the Secondary
Host button. For most bank-level configurations, the Host Type is always Primary.
12 Click Next to continue to configure the regulatory logger, Figure 2-6 (G).

13 At the Regulatory Logger screen, the wizard will present the option of using a logger or not,
Figure 2-7. A logger is another computer that audits the AOM or PC 1.0. For most bank-level
configurations, a logger is not used.

If a logger is required, click Associate a logger and enter the name of the logger in the

14 Click Next.

Using the PC 1.0 Loading a Jurisdictional SPI File


Software A SPI file must be loaded when a new PC 1.0 application is brought online. The system
automatically prompts for installation of the file when a user opens the application for the first time,
Figure 2-13.

To load a SPI file on the PC 1.0 system:


1 Log in to the PC 1.0 computer using the domain login if applicable.
2 Double-click the Administrator icon on the desktop. The secondary login window displays.
3 Install the SPI DVD into the empty drive on the PC 1.0 computer. Be sure not to try to use the
DVD drive used in step 1 on page 2-13, as it is disabled once the PC 1.0 software is loaded.
4 Click Browse, Figure 2-13 (A). A file explorer window displays.
5 Navigate to the SPI file and select it. The file must be in .IMG or .BIN format. The file
information displays in the Contents of SPI File text box.
6 Click Install to load the SPI file.
7 When the Log Change Reason window displays, choose Planned Configuration Change in
the Change Reason drop-down menu, Figure 2-14 (A).

drive. When the theme has finished installing, click on the red X at the upper right hand corner to

Enrolling the BC 1.0 The BC 1.0 manages one or more prize pools.
Bank Controller To enroll a BC 1.0 in the system:
1 From the WMS Administrator main window toolbar, click Administration. The Administration
Options window displays.
2 Click the Central Game Controller tab, Figure 2-23.

3 Enter a name for the BC 1.0 in the Site Asset Code field. The name may be any combination
of letters and characters, and is usually a combination of BC 1.0 and the casino name.
4 Enter the BC 1.0 IP address in the Static IP Address or Host Name field.
NOTE: The retrieval process of the BC Static IP Address is covered in Obtaining the BC 1.0 IP
Address on page 2-4.
5 Highlight the UHP master game from the Portal Game list.
6 Click Save. The PC 1.0 system enrolls the BC 1.0, and the Success message, Figure 2-24,
displays.

7 To verify the enrollment, click the BC 1.0 name on the Modify Central Game Controller list.
The BC 1.0 configuration displays in the fields on the right side of the window. The status,
Offline or Online, displays. The BC 1.0 may be configured only when the status is Online.

8 Click on the Bank Controller name under the Modify Central Game Controller field, Figure 223 (A) to verify that it is online.
NOTE: If the status of the BC comes up as Offline, it is possible that the IP address was mistyped.
Edit the information accordingly, select the correct portal games, and click Save.

Creating the Prize Each BC 1.0 must have an associated prize pool. Enrolled banks participate in the prize pool
Pool according to the game math and rules.
To create a prize pool instance on a BC 1.0:
1 From the WMS Administrator main window, click the prize pool icon on the toolbar at the top of
the window.
OR
Click the Tools tab and select the drop-down menu under the UHP icon to access the prize
pool menu, Figure 2-25.

2 Click Create Configurations. The Create Configuration window displays, Figure 2-26.

3 Enter the name for the instance in the Name field. The name may be any combination of letters
and characters, and should reflect the prize pool being created.
4 Select the BC 1.0 from the Central Game Controller drop-down list.

6 Select the game configuration from the Configuration Set drop-down list.
The configuration determines the payback percentage, reset amount, accrual rate, odds, and
other parameters for the prize pool. The EV, Minimum EV and Extra Bet for the configuration
display along with the payback ranges.
7 Click Save. The PC 1.0 system sends the instance information the BC 1.0 and the PC 1.0
starts the instance.
8 At Log Change Reason window, choose Planned Configuration Change in the Change
Reason drop-down menu, Figure 2-27 (A).

In addition to all standard game configuration options, the following settings are required for UHP
games:
NOTE: UHP requires operating system (OS) SSSG-000-1672 or higher.

Date/Time Setup The date/time on the game must be set accurately using the Setup | Clock Setup option from the
Administration Menu.
IMPORTANT: Ensure that the time and time zone for all games and the PC 1.0 are correct. The
EGMs will not register with the PC 1.0 database if the time is not within a five-minute range of the
PC 1.0.

Location Setup Complete the following steps to set the location for each game in the bank:
1 From the Administration Menu, select Setup | Machine Setup | Location Setup.
The Location Setup screen displays, Figure 2-28.

2 Set the Zone and Group values. All games in the bank must have the same Zone and Group
values.
3 Set the Units in Group value to 4 to 16, depending on the number of games in the bank.
4 Starting with the game on the left, set the Unit value to 1. Set the game to the immediate right
to 2, and so on.
5 Depending on your configuration, select either the Gaming machines are in a line checkbox
or the Gaming machines are in a circle checkbox.
6 Select Save and Exit and proceed to the next game until all games in the bank are set.

2 Click the Banks tab. The bank configuration window displays, Figure 2-34.

characters, and should reflect the game being played on the bank. Use a name that indicates
the type of bank being configured for easy reference later.
4 Select WMS Gaming from the Bank Manufacturer drop-down list.

5 Click Save New Bank to save the bank name and manufacturer.
The EGM list on the left side of the window displays any banks that have been configured
along with an Unassigned bank. The Unassigned bank lists devices not yet assigned to
banks.
6 To add an EGM to the bank, drag-and-drop it from the Unassigned list or from its current bank
to the desired bank. The bank configuration is automatically saved as changes are made.
NOTE: UHP game banks may have between 4 to 16 BB2s. The EGM bank configuration is
performed on the EGM administration screens.
7 Navigate to the Devices tab at the main PC 1.0 software page, Figure 2-35 (A).

8 At the toolbar on the left hand side, select the bank created on page 2-30, Figure 2-35 (B).
9 In order for the installation to finalize, the Device Status column must display a status of IDLE
for each EGM, Figure 2-35 (C), and an Enabled Cab. status, Figure 2-35 (D).
NOTE: If, during the installation, any single game is RAM Cleared or has its CPU changed, it will not
be necessary to RAM Clear the entire bank of games. Start up the game after the procedure and
wait for its status to become IDLE along with the other games in Figure 2-35. After clearing a tilt
from the EGM, it will take about five minutes for the game to show up as IDLE on the PC.

10 If an EGM displays a status other than ENABLED or IDLE, Figure 2-36 (A), right click on it and

Configuring the UHP Portal games enhance a standard base game. The UHP portal game is a concept that allows one
Portal or more players to win an award during a competitive, bank-level bonus round.
NOTE: The BC 1.0 bank controllers managed by the wizards must have been loaded with the
proper master game instance before starting the portal configuration.
UHP includes the option to configure bank position settings during the bank portal configuration.
UHP also requires a straight-line configuration.
Complete the following steps to configure the portal:
NOTE: The portal must be configured after every RAM clear of any game in the bank.
1 From the WMS Administrator main window, select UHP from the toolbar and select
Configuration Wizard

NOTE: When choosing a Paytable option, be sure to choose an option that ends with the word
"Portal." Failure to do so will not allow appropriate paytable setup and payouts.
11 Click Next to configure the next base game paytable, until all base games have been
configured, Figure 2-44 (D).
12 Click Next to assign cabinets in the bank to base games, Figure 2-44 (D). The cabinets must
not currently have a game theme installed.
13 At the Assign Base Themes to EGMs screen, click the Select checkbox to assign the base
game to the cabinet for each EGM, Figure 2-44.

14 If there is more than one theme, the window displays for each theme.

Click Select All to associate all cabinets to the theme.
NOTE: The window displays the current license counts for the portal content and the base
game. If there are not enough licenses for the number of cabinets selected, the configuration

15 Select Next, Figure 2-44 (A).
16 Click Change Now in the Scheduling area of the Task Creation Schedule window to ensure
that the tasks execute immediately, Figure 2-45 (A).

Passed the verification succeeded and the changes can continue.

Overridable the verification failed, but the failure can be overridden. Click Override All to

Failed the verification failed and the changes cannot continue. Click the View link for the
device that failed verification for more information about the failure.

If multiple devices in the same bank are to be changed, the system performs a verification for
each device. Devices that fail the verification are excluded from the game installation. However,
the other device configurations are allowed to continue.

The PC 1.0 application is comprised of Microsoft Windows applications, Microsoft Active


Directory permission sets, network infrastructure to the games, and a separate logging terminal.
There may be instances where one or more of these components fail and intervention is required
to fix the issue.
When issues occur, use the WMS Administrator main window as the primary tool for quickly solving
problems. Refer to the information in this section for common questions and answers.

EGM and EGM

minutes of its first connection to the system. The EGM status changes to Online
when the initialization completes. See Figure 2-45.
NOTE: When configuring the EGM date and time, the time for all four EGMs
must be within a five minute range or the EGMs do not register with the PC 1.0
system.

An EGM is Offline.

Typically, EGMs have a status of Offline for one of the following reasons:

An incorrectly configured IP address on the EGM

Problems with network connectivity

To determine if the EGM has an IP address problem and to fix the problem:

Access the Machine IP Address settings window from the Administrator


menu on the EGM.

Verify the IP address on the EGM and correct it, if needed.

Save the EGM configuration. The EGM transmits its configuration to the
system. If the configuration is correct, the EGM displays on list of
Unassigned EGMs in the WMS Administrator main window.

To determine if the EGM does not have network connectivity and to fix the
problem:
1

Attempt to ping the EGM from the PC 1.0 system. To ping the EGM, access
the Microsoft Windows start menu and select Run.

In the Run dialog box, enter, ping <IP address>, where <IP address> is the
EGMs IP address.

If the ping is successful, the window displays a Reply from message


indicating the amount of time that lapsed before the EGM responded. If the
window does not display any Reply from messages, there is an issue with
the Ethernet connection between the system and EGM. Begin basic networking
troubleshooting steps to determine the root cause of the issue.

Managing Tasks Use the following procedures to manage tasks:

To view the status of the tasks for an EGM:

Right-click the EGM from the WMS Administrator main window.

Select View Tasks from the pop-up menu. The Task Viewer for the EGM
displays any tasks scheduled for the current day.

Change the search parameters, as needed, to view specific types and


statuses of tasks or a specific date range.

To view task details, click a task and click Show Task Detail.

The tasks display with one of the following indicators:

Green flag the task has succeeded

White clock the task timed out

Green arrow the task is in progress

Yellow warning triangle the task has failed

No color or indicator the task is scheduled for a future time

The information for all failed tasks includes a failure reason in the Task Notes
field immediately below the task detail list. This reason typically includes
descriptive text that may sometimes reference a G2S error code. When a task
fails, the system creates a task to clean up after the failed task. These tasks are
created with a user name of System in the Creator field at the bottom of the
Task Detail display.
Refer to Appendix A for more information about task management.
Troubleshooting a failed task.

Tasks may fail for several reasons:

The task timed out (did not execute in the maximum amount of time allotted)

The encountered a networking failure at a critical point

The task had a protocol-related error

Refer to Table

4 for a description of likely task failures.

Task failures also display G2S-specific error codes. The descriptions for these
codes can be found in the GSAs G2S v1.0.3 specification available for
download at the GSAs website.
Other than a task timeout or compatibility check error, these errors are extremely
rare. In most cases, the tasks can be rescheduled to execute at a later time and
should be successful. Always take the EGM status into account when
diagnosing and fixing task failures.
Checking scheduled tasks.

To check scheduled tasks:

From the WMS Administrator main window, click the Tools tab.

Click Scheduling Viewer. The Scheduled Task Viewer displays tasks on a


daily, weekly, or monthly basis.

Click Day, Work Week, Week or Month to view the tasks for a given
timeframe.

Click a task and change its schedule or delete it. If the task is one of a series of
scheduled tasks, the task is deleted and the next scheduled task is created.

Error while attempting to power-cycle slot

An error has occurred during the power cycling of an EGM and the EGM
sent an error message. The EGM may or may not power cycle on its
own in this case.

Unsupported compatibility type detected

Compatibility check has failed due to the theme or OS containing a


compatibility type not supported by the PC 1.0 system.

Failed to disable paytable

An issue has resulted from disabling active paytables on the EGM. This
could have many causes including:

The data at the EGM and PC 1.0 system not being in sync

The PC 1.0 system does not have the most current data for the
theme installed on the EGM

The EGM was unable to disable all active paytables

The compatibility service is unavailable or has provided a response


which was not expected.

Error while communicating with compatibility

an EGM configuration change. The error text will typically be included

1.0 cannot locate the
BC 1.0

The PC 1.0 displays an error from the Administration Options window, Central
Game Controller tab indicating that the PC 1.0 cannot locate the BC 1.0. The
error indicates that the PC 1.0 and BC 1.0 network connection is not working
properly. To resolve the issue:
1

Determine if the BC 1.0 IP address is correctly entered into the


Administration Options window, Central Game Controller tab.

If the BC 1.0 IP address is correct, attempt to ping the BC 1.0 from the PC
1.0 computer to verify network connectivity between the two computers. To
ping the BC 1.0, access the Microsoft Windows start menu and select
Run.

In the Run dialog box, enter, ping <IP address>, where <IP address> is the
BC 1.0s IP address.

Determine if the BC 1.0 has an IP address issued by the DHCP switch by


checking the BC 1.0 display. The address is displayed in the upper left corner of
the screen at all times. If the address is 127.0.0.1, then the switch and the BC
1.0 are not properly networked.
Verify the network connections between the components. Ensure that the switch
is connected to port eth0 on the BC 1.0.
The connection can also be verified by using Internet Explorer to access the BC
1.0 web pages:

Open Internet Explorer from the PC 1.0 desktop.

Enter http://<BC 1.0 IP address>:1001 into the website address field and
press Enter. If the BC1.0 is properly connected to the system, a web page
displays the current software loaded, the BC 1.0 IP address, and other
information about the configuration.

If the BC 1.0 web page displays and the PC 1.0 does not allow configuration of
the portal with an error stating it cannot locate the BC 1.0, ensure that the BC
1.0 operating system and portal master game loaded are compatible with the
content loaded on the PC 1.0.
BC 1.0 / PC 1.0 Connectivity
Errors

The PC 1.0 and BC 1.0 send and receive a small but critical amount of
information to and from each other. The connection between the two computers
is necessary for enabling UHP games, as well as for initial configuration of the
BC 1.0 master instance. When the BC 1.0 and PC 1.0 are not able to
communicate, the following symptoms may indicate a connectivity issue
between the two computers:

The BC 1.0 displays with an Offline status on the PC 1.0 Administration


Window, BC 1.0 tab

A task fails on the BC 1.0 enrollment step

One of the Ultra Hit Progressive windows takes more than a minute to open
and displays an error stating that one or more BC 1.0s could not be
contacted

To determine the cause of the issue:

Verify the BC 1.0 is running without errors. To do so, check its display. The
display shows a list of event messages, including any BC 1.0 errors.

If no errors display on the BC 1.0, attempt to ping the BC 1.0 from the PC 1.0
computer to verify network connectivity between the two computers. To ping
the BC 1.0, access the Microsoft Windows start menu and select Run.

In the Run dialog box, enter, ping <IP address>, where <IP address> is the
BC 1.0s IP address.

If the ping is successful, the window displays a Reply from message


indicating the amount of time that lapsed before the BC 1.0 responded. If the
window does not display any Reply from messages, there is an issue with
the Ethernet connection between the PC 1.0 and BC 1.0. Begin basic
networking troubleshooting steps to determine the root cause of the issue.

Logon to the PC 1.0 to verify the computer is responsive.


Run the Services Viewer. To do so, from the Start menu, click
Administrative Tools and click Services.
Verify the WMS services are displayed on the list with a status of Started
WMS AOM Service, WMS Compatibility Service, WMS Event Watcher,
WMS License Manager Service, WMS Meters Service, WMS Progressive
Service and WMS Validator Service.

To determine why the service stopped running:


Run the Microsoft Windows Event Viewer. To do so, from the Start menu,
click Administrative Tools and click Event Viewer.
2 Click Windows Logs and then click Application to view errors for specific
services. Note any Windows system errors for the service.
To restart the service:
1

Access the Services Viewer to restart the service. To do so, from the Start
menu, click Administrative Tools and click Services.
2 Click the service name on the list. The Services Viewer displays information
about the service and a link to start the service.
3 Click the Start link to start the service. Some services require others to be
started, as well. If a pop-up window displays stating that additional services
will be started, click OK.
If the service fails to start when manually started:

Compatibility check failure in a


wizard or in a task.

Reboot the PC 1.0 system.


After reboot, log in and verify all services are started. If they have failed to
start, verify the service account is WMSServices or the equivalent for the
property.
If the account used for the services is already configured with adequate
privileges and assigned to the service, check the secondary logging
application for errors pertaining to file validation failure. If a file has failed
validation, all services automatically shut down. The file corruption must be
corrected and the PC 1.0 rebooted for the services to start properly.

Compatibility checks validate the EGM and theme will function properly after
configuration changes. The checks verify the following:
Sufficient EGM memory for the theme
EGM hardware
EGM configuration
OS version
Other tests to compare the theme requirements with the setup of the EGM
The compatibility check prevents a non-compatible changes from being made to
the EGM. There are two types of errors:

Some errors can be manually overridden in the compatibility check window


of the wizard. To override the error, click the Override checkbox. Only certain
errors, deemed to be acceptable, can be overridden.
A hard failure cannot be overridden. The compatibility check prevents
changes to an EGM or BC 1.0 portal configuration from proceeding.

A pop-up error on the PC 1.0


stating that a file has failed
validation displays

All controlled PC 1.0 system files are validated daily. If one of the files is found to
be corrupted or tampered with, a message displays on the secondary logging
UI. The message includes the name of the file or files that failed validation. At
this time, all WMS services are stopped until the problem is resolved. The
computer must be rebooted after the error is fixed.

Where are the PC 1.0 logs?

The PC 1.0 logs a variety of messages, as follows:

Microsoft Windows system and PC 1.0 service errors are written to the
Microsoft Windows Event Log. These errors can be viewed using the
Microsoft Windows Event Viewer. To access the Microsoft Windows
Event Viewer, from the Start menu, click Administrative Tools and select
Event Viewer. In emergency situations, additional logging can be turned on
to watch communications between the PC 1.0 and remote devices for
debugging software or communications issues. This is an advanced feature
and should only be used after consulting with the development support
group. Log files can grow to be very large and slow system performance if
left running for more than a few hours at a time.
The Event Watcher web interface provides regulators with access to the
jurisdictional logs. These events are not typically useful in diagnosing a
problem but can be useful to determine what the system was doing at the
time of a failure. Most remote configuration details are noted in the
jurisdictional log file.

Content may not load on the PC 1.0 computer for one of the following reasons:

An error displays while adding


a license file or individual
license.

The content is already loaded at the PC 1.0.

The content media has an error or problem. For example, a CD or DVD is


scratched.

The content image fails the validation. The PC 1.0 verifies all content prior to
loading it. If the content image is invalid, the PC 1.0 displays an error
message stating that content validation has failed.

If the SBGImages folder is improperly setup on the PC 1.0 computer, an


error displays when attempting to copy the file. The error indicates the folder
permissions are improperly set, or the folder location is inaccessible or it
does not exist. The error may also mean the PC 1.0 encountered an error
while attempting to copy the image file from the media.

The theme content files are corrupt or not valid. Verify the media is not bad,
damaged or smudged.

The following errors may occur when adding one license at a time:

The license is mistyped or invalid. In this case, the PC 1.0 displays an error
stating the license is invalid.

The license is not completely entered into the space provided in the pop-up
window. In this case, the OK button is not enabled

The license is a duplicate of one already installed on the PC 1.0. A message


displays stating the license is already installed.

The following errors may occur when adding multiple licenses from a file:

The file contains an invalid format or extra lines of text aside from the license
keys. An error displays stating the file is not valid, referencing the line
number in the file that contains the invalid text, and the invalid text. Verify the
license keys in the file are formatted with the license keys, including or
excluding dashes, followed by a carriage return.

One or more licenses in the file is a duplicate of a license already installed


on the PC 1.0. A message displays stating the license is already installed.

An error prevents moving an


EGMs can be moved from bank to bank at anytime with a few restrictions:
EGM from one bank to another.
If the EGM is retired, it must be RAM cleared prior to returning it to active
service. The cursor changes to a circle with a line through it when a user
attempts to drag an EGM from the retired bank to any other bank. The EGM
automatically moves to the Unassigned bank after RAM Clear and initial
configuration.

How to verify if the game


licenses are still valid

An EGM which is part of a bank configured for an instance of UHP cannot be


moved to a bank without that same instance configured. When a user
attempts to drag the EGM from one bank to another, an error displays
stating the EGM is currently enrolled in instance X and the target bank does
not have instance X configured.

The License Manager window of the PC 1.0 manages all licensing activities.
The license manager provides a view of all licenses. The window displays
expired licenses in red and licenses due to expire soon in yellow, along with
license expiration dates. This window also displays the EGMs using each
license and the number of seats available for use.
When a theme license is due to expire, the window displays a warning message
at 30, 15, 7, 1, 0 days until expiration. The day after the license expires, the PC
1.0 creates system tasks to remove the theme from the EGMs on which it is
installed.

A pop-up error on the PC 1.0


states that the license for a
theme is about to expire.

Some licenses are for a trial period of time and expire. When they are due to
expire (30, 15, 7, 1 days and the day of expiration) a warning message displays
on the secondary logging UI. The message includes the license name and the
amount of time until the license expires. The user much purchase and install a
new license or remove the theme from the EGMs before the license expires.
Otherwise, the day after the license expires, the PC 1.0 creates system tasks to
remove the theme from the EGMs on which it is installed.

Recovering From
Power Outages

What to do if the power goes


out on the floor

Floor power outages do not usually affect the PC 1.0 system. When all EGMs
have booted after power is restored, they display the main game screen and
synch with the PC 1.0. To verify that the PC 1.0 and EGMs are running properly:

Logon to the PC 1.0 system.

Login to the WMS Administrator application and verify each EGM displays
with a status of Online.

The games are playable while they sync with the PC 1.0. A floor sync may take
several minutes depending on the network speeds to the floor and number of
EGMs being brought online.
Verify any tasks that were in process during the outage have either timed out or
continued and succeeded. Depending on the amount of floor downtime, some
tasks may have timed out and must be rescheduled.
What to do if the PC 1.0
computer loses power

The PC 1.0 computer configuration should include a battery backup that


protects against power loss for short durations (15 minutes). For a prolonged
outage, the PC 1.0 may need to be shut down. When power is restored:

Restart the domain controller.

Bring up the PC 1.0 computer.

When all three system components are back online, logon to the PC 1.0 and
start the WMS Administrator application. Verify all EGMs are display with a
status of Online. Some floor syncs will take several minutes. Verify all scheduled

What to do if the network fails

Network failures may cause EGMs to go into an Offline state and can disrupt the
connection between the PC 1.0 and EGMs. Symptoms of a network failure
include:

All EGMs display with a status of Offline

Tasks that are in progress when the network failed are timing out

All tasks that were not in progress when the network failed, but launched
after the outage, display with a Scheduled status

A pop-up warning displays stating the connection to the remote logger has
been lost

When the network is restored, login to the WMS Administrator to reschedule all
tasks that timed out.

EV and Paytable
Validation

This section explains how multiple paytables used on the UHP system are implemented and
validated to comply with jurisdictional requirements regarding minimum payout percentage. The
PC controls the paytable selection and implementation, and several elements validate the use of
appropriate paytables. The EGM may be used to display current paytable settings, but all paytable
implementation must be done at the PC.

Available Paytables If an EGM is configured to participate in the UHP, two paytables apply to overall game play:
Portal paytable - This paytable applies to the UHP Master Game, and is a component of the
Progressive Instance. The Progressive Instance is selected during the first step of the Ultra Hit
Progressive Wizard on the PC, 3-Figure 3-10 (A), and includes additional progressive configuration
elements. The percentage value in the name of the Progressive Instance is the payout percentage.

In the selected Progressive Instance JE1_12% Configuration #1 in 3-Figure 3-10, the payout
percentage for the UHP Master Game is 12%.
Base game paytable - This paytable applies to the base theme, and is configured and implemented
using the Ultra Hit Progressive Wizard on the PC, 3-Figure 3-11. Some base game paytables
require that a portal paytable is activated, which is noted in the paytable description as Requires
Portal.

The UHP Configuration Wizard - Paytable Configuration screen lists all available denominations. To
activate a denomination for UHP, select the Denom checkbox and assign a paytable to that
denomination. Once selected, the Total Expected Value (EV) displays on the screen. This is the
overall payout percentage for that denomination.

Total EV/Payout As shown on the UHP Configuration Wizard - Paytable Configuration screen, the base game and
Percentage (from portal paytables are additive, and the resulting sum is the total payout percentage for the game. In

Total EV/payout percentage = base game paytable + portal paytable

Paytable Validation The following three elements ensure that the overall payout percentage is within jurisdictional
requirements for Ultra Hit Progressive EGMs:

SPI Chip. The jurisdiction-specific SPI chip seated on the CPU contains all required parameters
for EGM functionality. Paytable parameters defined in the SPI are activated and validated by the
EGM.

EGM Evaluator. When UHP is enabled for a denomination on the PC, the selected Progressive
Instance is written to the Central Gaming Controller (CGC) database. An EV calculation and
validation occurs on the EGM. If the EV validation passes, the Progressive Instance is written to
NV RAM on the EGM CPU.
If the Progressive Instance on the EGM matches the Progressive Instance in the CGC database,
the configuration is implemented. If the Progressive Instance is not found in the CGC database
or if communications between the EGM and CGC are interrupted, the EGM enters a tilt condition
and game play stops. This ensures that the appropriate payout percentage (as a component of
the Progressive Instance) is always applied to game play.

Centralized Paytable Configuration. Paytable configuration and implementation is managed


on the PC, and only compliant paytable options are presented on the PC during UHP
configuration. In addition, the option to configure the base theme paytable is disabled in
Administration Mode on the EGM, so invalid paytables cannot be configured from the EGM.

Paytable While paytables and UHP settings cannot be implemented on the EGM, paytable configuration
Information on the information is available from the following EGM Administration screens.
EGM Portal Connections screen (accessed by selecting Portal | Portal Connections in
Administration Mode) displays all currently implemented base game and portal paytables, 3Figure 3-12.

To view the portal paytable associated with a base game paytable, use the arrow on the Select a
Paytable field to scroll through available base game tables, 3-Figure 3-12 (A). The associated
portal paytable displays in the Select an Associated Portal field, 3-Figure 3-12 (B). To view the
base game paytable associated with the portal paytable, use the arrow on the Select an
Associated Portal field to scroll through available portal paytables, 3-Figure 3-12 (B). The
associated base game paytable(s) display(s) in the Select a Paytable field, 3-Figure 3-12 (A).

Game Master Accounting screen (accessed by selecting Accounting | Game Accounting |


Game Master in Administration Mode) displays the configured payout percentage in the
Weighted Average Theoretical Percentage field, 3-Figure 3-13 (A). The Game Yield% field, 3Figure 3-13 (B), displays the actual payout percentage of the EGM.

Denom Configuration screen (accessed by selecting Setup | Credit Setup | Denom Config |
Multi-Game in Administration Mode) displays the configured denominations and their
associated base game paytable, 3-Figure 3-14.

Select Assigned to view the paytables currently applied to game play. To view all available base
game paytables, select All. Selecting Unassigned displays available paytables that are not
currently used.

Depending on the procedure, measures must be taken to prevent electrical shock and/or
electrostatic discharge (ESD) when servicing the game.

Software versions will periodically need to be updated. Complete the following steps to update the
game or OS software:
1 RAM Clear the EGMs.
2 Load the new OS and game software onto the EGMs from the CompactFlash.
3 Configure the games. Refer to Game Configuration on page 2-23.
4 RAM clear the BC 1.0.
5 On the PC 1.0 computer, access the Devices tab of the WMS Administrator application.
6 Select the Portal Game menu and click Create Progressive Configurations, Figure 2-1.

The WMS Administrator displays a warning indicating the BC 1.0 has been RAM Cleared.
7 Click OK.
8 Click the Products tab.
9 For the base theme and portal master game, right-click the content icon and select Delete from
the pop-up menu. The WMS Administrator deletes the content from the Gaming Asset
Repository (GAR) database.
NOTE: All old content must be deleted and new content must be installed for this process to
work properly.

10 For the base theme, portal skin, and portal master game, load the new content:
a Load the content DVD into the available drive on the PC 1.0.
b From the Products tab, click Load New WMS Content. The Package Manager displays and
scans the DVD for content. When the scan completes, the Package Manager window,
Figure 4-1, displays information about the content.

c Click Install. The Package Manager validates and loads the content from DVD into the
GAR database.
d Remove the content DVD from the drive.
e Exit the Package Manager window.
11 Click the Administrator icon on the toolbar to display the Administration Options window.
12 Click the Central Game Controller tab, Figure 4-2.

13 Select the BC 1.0 for the portal game from the Modify Central Game Controller area.
14 In the Portal Games area, click the portal master game.
15 Click Save.
16 Exit the Administration Options window.
17 Start the master game instance on the BC 1.0.
18 Run the portal wizard, which manages the configuration of the EGM paytables. The wizard
creates any tasks required to configure the EGM paytables.
