Project Idea:
Summary of the complex real world problem being investigated:
This project investigates the people whose names are on the Mylor war
monument, in particular the names of those who fought during World War
2. Students will work closely with the Mylor History Group to gather
information about the soldiers both their war history and their connection to
the Mylor community. Students will investigate what it would have been
like to be a child their age during World War 2, through talking with people
who were children during this time and using other resources.
Students will present their learning through a display to be held following
the Remembrance Day Ceremony. The students will be present and
available to talk with the community about their learning.
The students will also have an active role in this year's Remembrance Day
service, including raising the flag, reading the ode, laying a wreath and
possibly a small speaking part summarising their research about the
soldiers.
Driving Question(s):

Adult world connections:
How will external expertise in this field be incorporated?
We will work closely with the Mylor History Group. The Hook will be
undertaken with someone from the group. The History Group has lent us
some folders with information they have been able to resources about the
soldiers on the monument. Hopefully every couple of weeks some
member from the group will be able to come into school to talk to the
students about what they have found out and the progress they have
made so far. The organisers of the Remembrance Day service will tell us
how students can be involved in the service and give instructions about
what they need to do. Without the support of the community and history
group, this project would not be possible.
Explicit teaching moments:
How might specific content and/or skills be teacher-led?
Research skills (note taking, writing in own words)
Class reading of picture books related the driving questions.
