Bank:A bank is a financial institution that does the banking activity.

It deals with deposits and

advances and other related services like landing money to growth the economy. Bank act
as bridge between the people who save and people who want to borrow. It receives
money from those people who want to save as deposits and it lends money to those who
want to borrow it. A bank is a safest place to keep deposit money.

Banking:Banking can be defined as the business activity of accepting and save guarding money
deposits from individuals and entitles called savers and then lending out the same money
to borrowers in order to earn a profit. Apart from the services banking business activities
have widened and in these days, banks provide financial services such as loans for car,
home, education and business checking accounts debit and credit card services, lockers,
fixed deposits, recurring deposits, electronic banking like automatic tellers machines
(ATM) services and online electronic fund transfer etc.
Now-a-days banking sector acts as the backbone and life blood as modern business
because the money that deposited in bank will not be idle. It will grow by means of
interest to the bank account. And people will earn interest in return for lending out the
same money to borrowers. This would ensure smooth money flow to develop our
economy in positive approach.

CSR:Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is the continuing commitment by business to

behave ethically and contribute to economic development while improving the quality of
life of the workforce and their families as well as the local community and society at
large. We can also say that CSR is the process of assessing our an organizations impact
on society and evaluating their responsibilities CSR begins with an assessment of a
business and their:

Customers,
Environment,
Suppliers,
Communities,
Employees,

Benefits of CSR:CSR should not be viewed as a drain or resources, because carefully implemented CSR
policies can help any organization like,

Win new business.

Increase customer retention.
Develop and enhance relationship with customers, suppliers, and networks.
Attract, retain and maintain a happy workforce and be can employer choice.
Save money on energy and operating costs and manage risk.
Differentiate ones organizations from others competitors.
Generate innovation and learning and enhance ones influence.
Improve business reputation and standing.
Provide asses to investment and funding opportunities.
Generate positive publicity and media opportunities due to media interest in
ethical business activities.

Disadvantage of CSR:-

VENUS

2 | Page

Sometimes an individual will be so competent at handling social responsibility that it will

be given too much. This will become draining for some individuals, or it will make some
begin to feel that they are more powerful than they actually are. If a person isn't ready for
too much responsibility, then he is also more likely to make mistakes. For someone who
has built up a good reputation in a community, a negative change in fortunes will be
devastating.

Branding:
Branding is a way to make a certain product or thing recognizable to the masses The
American Marketing Association (AMA) defines a brand as a "name, term, sign,
symbol or design, or a combination of them intended to identify the goods and services of
one seller or group of sellers and to differentiate them from those of other sellers.
Therefore it makes sense to understand that branding is not about getting target market to
choose over the competition, but it is about getting prospects to see as the only one that
provides a solution to their problem.
To succeed in branding there must understand the needs and wants of consumers and
prospects. A successful brand resides within the hearts and minds of customers and
clients. It is the total sum of their experiences and perceptions.
A strong brand is invaluable as the battle for customers intensifies day by day. It's
important to spend time investing in researching, defining, and building your brand. After
all, a brand is the source of a promise to its consumer. It's a foundational piece in the
marketing communication.
The objectives that a good brand will achieve include:

Branding with CSR:

A potential benefit of CSR is that it can improve a companys reputation and branding
and this in turn improves the prospects for the company to be more effective in the way
that it manages communications and marketing in efforts to attract new customers and
increase market share. CSR as a concept with various tools can help a company to
position itself in the marketplace as a company that is more responsible and more
sustainable than its competitors.

Link between Branding and CSR:

Corporate social responsibility refers to the practice of conducting business in a
manner which link it to ethical value, compliances with legal requirements and
most importantly, respect for people, community and the environment.
CSR acknowledge that companies have an impact on society and the environment
through their operations, product and service as well as through their interaction
with key stakeholders.
CSR provides emotional as well as rational engagement of the consumer with the
brand. It provides a tangible demonstration of the companys corporate social
responsibility, its value and its ethics.
So the success of CSR activities of an organization should be measured against its impact
on overall brand reputation. CSR activities create a positive image for an organization
and its also creating a special place into the hearts and minds of clients and customers
which will encourage them to buy the product or service of that organization more and
also motivate the new consumer also.

Recommendation :After completing research our five commercial bank of Bangladesh about their
CSR activities, we have found that their CSR activities are limited within some
following sector Education, Health, Handicapped people, Environment, Support
to freedom fighters family, relief fund of disaster and internship facilities. But we
recommend the following sector where the CSR activities should be increase. Our
recommended sectors are

VENUS

16 | P a g e

Provide training facilities to unskilled people to prevent unemployment

problem.
Producing of solar energy where electricity is not available.
Providing of developed technologies to farmer for increasing production of
crops.
Taking step to create awareness among society about some fatal social
problem like dowry system, eve-teasing, acid throwing, immature
marriage etc.
Our commercial banks are earning huge amount of revenue every year, they should
increase their CSR activities and spend more money for improving life standard of
vulnerable people of society.
Usually, Banks are operating their CSR activities individually. If the banks are start
their CSR activities together, they can initiate large project for developing our
society and in that way we will be more benefited through the CSR activities of
commercial banks.

Conclusion:For standard financial reporting we need to develop a Bangladesh Accounting Standard (BAS) of
CSR reporting and presentation. Banking Companies should participate in all prescribed areas of
CSR to show their real contribution in the economic development of the country. Financial
information should be trustworthy to all levels of interested users so all private banks should
disclose CSR information both monetary and nonmonetary, they should give more and detailed

VENUS

17 | P a g e

information about corporate CSR expenditure. Government is not beyond responsibility. So it

should take necessary steps to encourage private commercial banks to enhance their contribution
in the matter. As a guardian of financial market, Bangladesh Bank should monitor the activities
of banks corporate social responsibility and reporting.
In conclusion, it may be said that our private commercial banks corporate social responsibility
reporting practice is developing day by day. They are trying to follow the rules of finance act.
But their participation is not satisfactory in all areas. There are about 45% areas where no
contribution. So they must think about the issue of areas. Private commercial banks have a great
contribution in our economy so its a self introductory matter of them to report corporate social
responsibility information in the annual report to flourish their image in the society as well as to
develop an accountable society. However, the conclusion is subject to certain limitations noted
earlier and requires more sample and relevant data for further research.
