Chapter 1
Welcome to the Configuration Guide
Web Setup is a user-friendly Web interface that allows you to easily configure your MegaPX IR Dome
cameras. Designed for the quick and effective configuration of devices, this powerful tool allows
your March Networks cameras to achieve optimum performance.
Configure direct video recording on an SDHC card (not provided with the camera) or on a NAS
(Network Attached Storage) device.
Locally or remotely access the camera and verify that the device is working properly. For
example, you can view video or test the motion detection feature.
Configure the device settings to better meet your organizations needs. For example, you can
specify different encoding profiles or enable LDAP server authentication.

29
Description
Connects the camera to the NTP server to retrieve the date and
time.
Note: You must first configure a valid NTP server before you
select this option. For more information, see Configuring the
Cameras Network Settings on page 31.
Click Disconnect client. The client is automatically disconnected without asking for a
confirmation.
30
Note: By selecting DHCP, also the DNS and NTP servers are automatically set to DHCP mode
(the camera automatically retrieves the servers addresses from the network). However, you can
manually specify the DNS and NTP addresses by selecting Manual from the Mode lists. For more
information, see To configure the camera to use a static IP address on page 32.
31
In the Public address section, enter a Public IP address (Web Address) and connection port
(Video Port) for the MegaPX IR Dome, if required.
Note: If the camera is behind a NAT device, you must configure this option.
The camera is set to DHCP mode and the Web server restarts. After a few moments, the camera
automatically retrieves an IP address from the DHCP server, and you can view the new IP address in
the Current IP text box.
To configure the camera to use a static IP address
1 In the IP section, select Manual from the Mode list.
Enter the network Subnet mask and the Router/gateway IP address (if applicable).
In the DNS section, enter the IP address for the primary and secondary DNS servers in the DNS 1
and DNS 2 text boxes, as required.
In the NTP section, enter the IP address for the NTP server section, as required.
In the Public address section, enter a Public IP address (Web Address) and connection port
(Video Port) for the MegaPX IR Dome, if required.
Note: If the camera is behind a NAT device, you must configure this option.
32
In the General panel, enter the communication port for the RTSP protocol.
In the MTU list, select the maximum size, in bytes, for the standard data packets.
Select the Multicast TTL (Time To Live) value from the list. The TTL is the maximum number of
routers (hops) that can be crossed by a packet before it is discarded.
Select the range of available communication ports for the UDP delivery protocol by typing the
start and end ports.
33
In the Authentication panel, select the Authentication type from the list. Options include
Basic (the users credentials are verified by sending a plain text password over the network), and
Digest (the users credentials are securely verified by the system using encrypted information).
You can also configure both authentication types by selecting Yes from the Allow basic
authentication list.
Alternatively, you can allow the user to connect to the streaming video without
authentication by selecting Yes from the Allow anonymous user list.
In the Encoder 1 panel select the transmission method. You can choose Unicast (the data
packets are sent directly from the server to one client, which is recommended for remote
connections) or Multicast (the data packets are duplicated by routers that are able to send data
to a number of clients, which is recommended for LAN connections).
Multicast: Select No from the Active unicast list. The Active multicast list appears. Select
Yes. You must also enter the Multicast IP address and connection port.
Copy and paste the SDP link into a media player compatible with multicast transmission,
such as Apple Quick Time, to view the video stream.
Note: The UDP multicast protocol is recommended for LAN data transmission, and is
supported by video players like VideoLan and Apple Quick Time.
Repeat step 7 if dual streaming is enabled on the camera. For more information, see
Configuring the Video Options on page 37.
34
In the General panel, enter the connection port for M-JPEG streaming using the HTTP protocol.
In the Authentication panel, select the Authentication type from the list.
Options include Basic (the users credentials are verified by sending a plain text password over
the network), and Digest (the users credentials are securely verified by the system using
encrypted information).
You can also configure both authentication types by selecting Yes from the Allow basic
authentication list.
Alternatively, you can allow the user to connect to the streaming video without
authentication by selecting Yes from the Allow anonymous user list.
In the Encoder 1/2 (depending on the encoding settings) panel select Yes from the Active list.
Copy and paste the MJPEG link into an Internet browser to view the video stream.
35
In the Client public key section, click Browse, navigate to the folder where the public key for
the client certificate is stored, select it, and then click Open.
36
In the Client private key section, click Browse, navigate to the folder where the private key
for the client certificate is stored, select it, and then click Open.
In the Settings section, select Yes from the Activate 802.1x list to activate the protocol.
In the EAP identity text box, enter a custom name for the MegaPX IR Dome camera. The switch
and the authentication server uses this name in the system log.
Note: Some authentication servers may require the EAP identity name as part of the
authentication process.
10 In the Private key password text box, enter the password for the private key. This password is
required by the computer to decrypt the private key uploaded on the camera.
11 Click Submit to confirm the changes
37
Notes:
The Web Setup automatically applies constraints in terms of resolution and/or IPS while in multistreaming mode. It is not possible to set the H.264 Major compression for two different encoding
profiles.
To enable the snapshot archive functionality, you must set almost an encoding profile with the
JPEG compression. For more information about the snapshot archive functionality, see
Configuring the Snapshot Archive Functionality on page 59.
In the Encoder Name field, enter a descriptive name for the first encoding profile.
38
Select the distance (in number of frames) between two consecutive I frames from the I/P Rate
list.
For H.264 compression, select the bitrate control from the Bitrate mode list.
Options include Constant, which defines a constant bit rate with a limited and fixed bandwidth,
and Variable, which defines a variable bit rate to achieve a better image quality, at the cost of
increased bandwidth.
For H.264 compressions with constant bit rate, select the image quality from the Bitrate list.
For H.264 compressions with variable bit rate, you must select:
-
The highest bit rate allowed from the Max Bitrate list. This is useful to limit bandwidth
peaks and usage.
For JPEG compressions, select the image quality from the Quality list.
Enter the interval (in number of frames) between two key frames (i.e. I frames marked as key
frames) in the IDR interval field. This is useful when the camera is set at full resolution and
frame rate, and the client application doesnt visualize live video smoothly.
Note: A lower value corresponds to a higher number of key frames sent by the camera to the
client applications.
Repeat step 1 to step 7 to configure the second and third encoding profile, if applicable.
39
Enter a descriptive name for the set of configurations in the Mode Name field.
