DADS’ DEN

WE’VE all seen that haunted look

before. Husbands seated outside
the changing rooms at a well
known clothes store waiting 16 18

allows fathers and their children
to spend some time together. You
can read more in Andy Glover’s
column on page 24.

Centre decision soon
COUNCILLORS will make a decision soon
on the fate of Lightfoot Lodge, in Hoole,
which is threatened with closure.
Cheshire West and Chester Council has
finished its 12 week consultation on the
proposal to shut the respite centre on
Lightfoot Street.
If approved, the premises will be closed in
September.
A new 72-bed facility is being built on
the site of the old Woodfield School, in
Newton which would replace the likes of
Lightfoot Lodge, Curzon House and Sutton
Beeches.
Nancy Price celebrated her 100th birthday
at Lightfoot Lodge last month. She attends
the centre three times a week for day care.

CHECK THE SMALL PRINT ON YOUR LOAN

In recent days, we have won a £40,000 out-of-court settlement on behalf of a client.
We are advising people who may have been mis-sold payment protection insurance (PPI) that they
can claim refunds from lenders. It is amazing how many people are not aware of the existence of
PPI on their loans.
The purpose of PPI is to pay out in the event of an accident, sickness or unemployment.
However, many policies we have examined were totally unsuitable or impossible to claim against.
Examples of our cases include where the borrowers are self employed, retired or had an existing
medical condition.
Many people have been sold PPI without understanding the consequences. Borrowers have even
been told by sales people that they could not obtain the loan without purchasing the PPI.
Large premiums are often added to the loan at the outset which also racks up the interest. Large
commissions are invariable involved.
We advise all readers to check their loan documentation and to contact us. We will be happy to
check over the documentation for free.
If you think you may have a claim, please call us on 01244 349710.
We do not charge any upfront fees.

with Angela Bartlett

Q. My lips are quite thin and I am noticing that as I am getting

older they are getting thinner. Is there anything I can do to
make them look fuller?
A. As we age we lose fatty tissue from the lips making them
look thinner. The most effective method of restoring their
fullness is with dermal filler injections. Small, temporary
injections of hylauronic acid which are administered to
the vermilion border of the lips (the juncture between the
lighter skin and the redder tissue of the lip) to give a natural
plumpness without giving the dreaded ‘trout pout’ as
demonstrated by Leslie Ash.

If injections are not for you, then try

micropigmentation lip blush. A soft line of colour is
tattooed around the lip area giving the impression
of a fuller, more defined lip line.
There are also some great make-up tips for you to
try. Use lighter shades of lipstick with high shine
to reflect light and give the illusion fullness. Also

Hoole’s religious buildings

Hoole All Saints Parish Church

Hoole All Saints Parish Church was the first of the seven churches to be built in Hoole. The land for
the Church was donated by the Hamilton family. The building itself was designed by Samuel Daukes of
Whitechapel and built of red sandstone from Runcorn at a cost of £8,462.
The stained glass windows were added as follows:
1919 David and Jonathon (valour and loyalty) in memory of Rev RC Morrison, a curate killed in action in 1916.
1924 Simeon and Anna in memory of Rev F Anderson and his wife, the first vicar of Hoole 1871 – 1907.
1930 St Paul in memory of Matthew Loam, head teacher of All Saints School and Church Warden who died in 1929.
1947 St Tomas and St Paul in memory of Rev A T Wise, vicar of Hoole 1930-44, who died in the vicarage.
The Church itself opened its door on Christmas Eve 186 although it was not officially consecrated until
1871. In that same year Mary Hamilton, who donated the church tower and steeple, further donated five
bells to be hung in the steeple.
The vicarage was built in 1885 of brick. This marked the start of the building of vicarage road, which was
competed in 1894.
The first public clock in Hoole was added to
three faces of All Saints steeple tower in 1904
in memory of Charles Brown of Browns of
Chester fame who died in 1900. He was patron
of the church and donated the first organ in
1891.
By 1910 the church was at full capacity so it
was enlarged by another 188 seats by adding
the south aisle at a cost of £1,750. It was
designed by Douglas, Minshull & Muspratt
(John Douglas built many of Chester’s
Victorian building including Bath Street and
Hoole Westminster Road school).
The New south west porch was added in
1933 and the church hall was built behind the
vicarage in 1960. The oak was memorials were
added in 1925 and 1950 to commemorate ‘
The glorious war dead’.
Also in 1925 the treble bell was added to the
bell tower to commemorate the parish’s war
dead with their names inscribed on the bell so
that their names will ring out across the parish
for ever.

Things have changed a lot since I was a boy. I was born in

1966, another World Cup year, and it was during the 1960’s
that there was a survey carried out looking at the greatest
fears of secondary school children. This was repeated in

were the top 4 results, these results were:

Who Let the Dads Out? is a toddler group for fathers (and other male carers) and their
pre-school children. It aims to:
- be a fun way for dads and children to spend time together, and
- be a place where fathers can meet other men in the same position.
The group meets on the first Saturday of each month in Hoole Lighthouse Centre,
from 10am to midday). In addition to a wide range of toddlers’ toys and a craft table,
there are the famous bacon sandwiches, good coffee and good company. It is regularly
attended by 30-45 dads and up to 60 kids.
