1. How difficult does taking Pre-med classes make your class schedule during
the normal fall and spring semesters?
Response: It makes it difficult, but there are plenty of resources on campus to
being able to keep up like the ACE tutoring center, friends, and help sessions.
2. How much time is generally dedicated to extracurricular tutoring to keep your
grades up in your classes?
Response: For chemistry 1 I had to get about two hours a week and a bit
more if I didnt understand the topic.
3. What are some activities that the Pre-med/med programs offer to get
students more involved with their studies?
Response: There are a lot of clubs on campus that each relate to your specific
field and helps to improve your confidence in what you want to do.
4. What are some of the methods that the professors use in their teaching that
help you better understand the course material compared to your professors
for your other courses?
Response: It depends on the professor. Passion for the subject really makes a
difference as a lack of interest of the professor is likely to be mimicked by a
lack of interest by the student.
5. What are the primary differences between the science labs?
Response: The chemistry labs are more rigorous compared to the biology
labs. Chemistry is generally more math based than biology.
6. What are some programs that can help prepare you for or get an internship?
Response: I would talk to your professor during office hours as they are
usually doing some form of research and can help advise you or provide
opportunities for you.
7. Do you plan on enrolling in the Med school here at FSU after you complete
Pre-med?
Response: No, because I am Pre-dental and one is not here. There are only
two dental schools here in Florida and its extremely selective, so I will
probably be going out of state.
8. What are some good habits to get into to have the greatest success in Premed classes?
Response: Dont procrastinate, learn how to work ahead, and stop being shy
as unless you speak up the professor doesnt know that your confused.
9. Do people often ask questions during the labs or just in the normal lectures or
does everyone act like they understand?

Response: You get a mix of people. Some people silently dont understand
and wait to ask at the end of class. Then there are some that will ask
questions during the lecture. During the labs its pretty apparent when
someone doesnt understand and usually they will have a TA or the professor
come help them. They need to be intelligent questions though, not really
simple ones.
10.Do you know much about patient logs?
Response: Yeah I shadowed a dentist for a bit. The patient logs are very
specific and are basically a history of everything about you or what has
happened to you. They also get rid of records roughly every 10 years.
11.Do you know much about the protocols regarding phone calls between
practitioner and patient?
Response: There are different types, one is making an appoint, two is a
checkup where the doctor will see how youre doing after a major procedure,
and three is getting a prescription where the doctor will call the pharmacist
for the patient.
12.Do you know much about the procedures before an operation?
Response: In dentistry, they typically use models and diagrams to show the
patient exactly what is going to occur during the procedure.
13.What first got you interested in the Pre-med program and future med
program?
Response: When I was in high school, I really made sure I wanted to do what I
wanted to do. I got in contact with my friends mom who was a dentist and
began to shadow here. And the more I shadowed her, the more interested I
became.
