Chapter 1: Introduction
1.1.
Cultural Spa is a custom, and social
behavior of a society applied to spas which is rich in
mineral spring water usually used to give medicine
where wellness is the hot new word in the spa
business. It's the most powerful argument anyone
can make against seeing spas as a mere luxury, a
pampering experience that can be cut from the
household budget.
Living in a state of optimal health, well-being, and
vitality, and invest money, time and energy in the
things that help you achieve it. That includes a good
diet, exercise, and treatments like massage
and bodywork that keeps you functioning at your
best. Wellness makes our lives richer and more
enjoyable.

This is also classified as spa resort which is a short


term residential/lodging facility with the primary
purpose of providing individual services for spagoers to develop healthy habits. It is perfectly for
individuals, couples, family or group of people to
loosen up and unwind in a moment of their time. It
is also a place of meditation and soul searching
with the help of various activities
1.3. Problem Setting

There are lot of wellness centers and spa resort
that suffer to several numbers of problems to be
considering as follows;

1.2.1 History

In daily leaving, people encounter problems that


causes different types of stressed. This results to
irritation, illness and discomfort. By which no one
has an exemptions to feel this negative vibes.
Where you cant think correctly and concentrate to
the thigs you supposed to do. Sometimes, being so
much stressed or fatigue causes depression and
imbalanced mood swings results to illness.
Maintaining balance, developing healthy lifelong
habits and making good choices contribute to one's
overall well-being and ultimately, academic
success.
1.2.2. Project Description
Kanlungan ni Maria Makiling, a Verdure Cultural
Spa and Wellness Resort focuses on aiding the
people to be motivated and to achieve selfactualization. Which is the self-actualization is the
realization or fulfillment of one's talents and
potentialities, especially considered as a drive or
need present in everyone.
This will offer relaxing activities such as spa, sauna,
yoga center, therapeutic, fitness, exercise and
wellness center, comprehensive programs as
stated in appendices table 1, page 1. This is to
cater everyone from emotionally, physically and to
spiritually need.

Scope: Kanlungan ni Maria Makiling, A Verdure
Cultural Spa and Wellness Resort in Calamba
Laguna focuses about Psychological, Emotional
and Spiritual needs of the people.
Limitation: It is limited to the specific approach of
the resort which is to apply the wellness programs
and health assessment that could help for selfimprovement.
1.4. Assumptions
For the purpose of the study of the Proposed
Kanlungan ni Maria Makiling visions of a
development of tourism and promote the cultural
activities in Antipolo by providing excellent and new
facilities that can accommodate the growing
demand of tourist in 10 year projection.
1.5. Goals of the Project
The demand and the market are always the first
considerations for a cultural spa and wellness
resort. Prioritizing the social, spiritual and mental
discomfort of the people where they could

exchange to various activities offered by the


wellness center and resort.
Living in a clean environment, eating healthy food,
regular physical exercise, balance in career; family;
and relationships, spiritual awareness and some
programs include faith-based worship. Faith-based
wellness programs may suggest a spiritual
component in their models, however, it would be
opposition to most secular wellness programs
which tend to be inclusive any individual's spiritual
beliefs or practices.

1.6. Project Objective

To employ energy efficient facilities with the


use of new technologies and systems
To lessen the number of obesity and create
healthy lifestyle by means of Cardio-Vascular
activities
To promote wellness programs for spiritual
imbalance, emotional needs and health
assessments
To provide an architectural solution for the
social needs of the people

2.3. Hypothesis
The proposed Kanlungan ni Maria Makiling, A
Verdure Cultural Spa and Wellness Resort is
affecting the Province of Laguna and the City of
Calamba in terms of tourism by giving the Local and
Foreign Tourists a place of meditation and soul
searching with the help of various activities.

south of the Philippine capital of Manila, this awardwinning 48-hectare resort offers an exceptional
healing environment for the holistic treatment of

Calamba Laguna, shows that it is feasible for
proposed Kanlungan ni Maria Makiling, A Verdure
Cultural Spa and Wellness Resort to increase the
demand of tourism. As showed in the criteria of site
selection, pls. see appendices table 2. p.4

Laguna is part of the CALABARZON (Region IV-A),
just thirty (30) kilometers south of Metro Manila. It is
the third largest province in Region IV-A. The
eastern portion of the province stands astride the
southernmost portions of the Sierra Madre
mountain range. It is surrounded by Laguna Lake,
formerly called La Laguna Encantada, one of the
only 18 living lakes in the world. Laguna Lake is the
largest inland lake in the country. The Provincial
Government of Laguna is located in the Municipality
of Sta. Cruz. Has a Land Area of 175, 973 ha.11 It is

The soil classification is Calumpang soil whichh


series developed from fine clayey, alluvial
sediments deposited usually over tuffaceous rocks

Slope and Erosion

Pansol, Calamba has and elevation of 0 to


20meters.13 Its level is gently sloping, characterized
by 02.5% slope. This resembles the northern part
of the city.14 (For maps pls. see appendices figure_
p_)
